Free bus-safety awareness BBQ

The Chittenden County Sheriffs, Northern Law Enforcement SHARP Program and the Milton Police Department are once again hosting a FREE BBQ to raise awareness about the dangers of passing a school bus when the red lights are flashing.  With summer coming to an end, school buses will soon be transporting children to and from school and it is imperative that the motoring public drive carefully when near them. The public should be prepared that school buses may be transporting children at ANY time of the day.

To bring awareness to this important issue, in 2019 we started our Red Lights Flashing = No Passing Free BBQ event and we are happy to announce that we will be hosting it again this year.  The BBQ will be held on August 22, 2024 from 11:00 am to 13:00 pm at the Grange Hall parking lot located on US Rt. 7 near the intersection with Lamoille Terrace in Milton, VT.

Peepers be gone

Plotting your route to snap some ‘Grammable foliage pix this fall?

You can cross Jenne Road in Reading off your list.

“The [select]board, at its most recent meeting on Aug. 5, once again voted unanimously to close the road during peak foliage this year, shuttering the chance for tourists’ camera shutters to capture the trees at their flaming best,” reports Vermont Public.

Reading took similar action last year. Pomfret has also banned non-local traffic from one of its roads during foliage season.

UVM names interim president

Patricia (Patty) Prelock

The University of Vermont Board of Trustees approved in a special meeting Monday the appointment of Provost Patricia Prelock to serve as interim president of the university following the departure of current president Suresh Garimella.

Prelock will begin as interim president upon President Garimella’s departure this fall and serve while the search for the university’s next president proceeds in due course.

A scholar and practitioner in the nature and treatment of autism spectrum disorders, Prelock has secured nearly $25 million in research funding as a primary investigator or co-primary investigator and helped establish UVM’s Osher Center for Integrative Health.

  1. I’ve photographed the Jenne Farm many times, in all four seasons. Many people do and are not a danger to traffic, so no need to close the road which I suspect off Rt 106 (I believe) There’s another entrance south of the Jenne road. The first scene in the movie FUNNY FARM was taken there with Chevy Chase having a picnic with the cows. Later it was also filmed in Townshend, they sprayed the trees around the common making it look like winter. It killed the trees, so they had trees replanted. They also built the bandstand, now being considered for removal by the town.

The state is also closing another scenic place near Woodstock. Guess VT is to be anti-tourist with their money.

  2. wow//// wow/// wow/// autism//// spectrum//// disorders//// twenty five million in research funding/// wow, more welfare funding for u. v. m. /// vermont transportation department involved////

  3. This is the other scenic farm being closed to leaf peppers
POMFRET (AP) — Social media influencers take note: You won’t be able to snap that fall foliage selfie at a popular Vermont spot. The town has temporarily closed the road to nonresidents due to overcrowding and “poorly behaved tourists.”

The normally quiet dirt road from Pomfret to Woodstock, home to the frequently photographed Sleepy Hollow Farm, will be open only to residents through mid-October. And local law enforcement plans to enforce it.

The Jenne Farm article mentioned Forrest Gump movie, not so. the movie is herein mentioned. I’ve photographed the Sleepy Hollow Farm many times, before the crowds arrive in later years. I’ve one time I put the full moon over the Jenne farm in winter. It was published in a VT Life calendar. At one time the Jenne Farm people put a donation box where the people usually did their stuff. It was vandalized one time.

  4. The folks at Jenne Farm are none to happy about the severe popularity of the view. Knock knock knock…do you mind if I use your bathroom has reportedly been a common occurance. I have the opportunity to pedal directly by the residence while supporting the Vermont 100 Endurance race each July and the tension is palpable most years.

  5. they were taxing us for the view on one of our properties in searsburg/// solve that problem and let the trees grow higher/// no more view and cut the tax bill in half/// now they raised our tax bill again this year/// you will own nothing and you will be happy///

    • Why don’t they make these roads toll roads so people have to pay to get their scenic views, and the funds collected could offset road repairs in their towns.
