Heading into Sunday’s Burlington Democratic Caucus, Joan Shannon picked up her second major municipal public safety endorsement: the Burlington Firefighters Association.

Shannon, a city councilor, City Council President Karen Paul, and CD Mattison are all seeking the Democratic nomination for mayor. Incumbent Miro Weinberger announced in September he would not seek reelection. He is considering a run for governor.

Shannon earlier received the endorsement of the Burlington Police Officers Association.

Mattison recently received the endorsement of former Burlington legislator Mary Sullivan. The endorsement, posted on social media, included this campaign statement: “If you look around Burlington and like what you see, keep voting for the same people who’ve been on City Council for the past 20 and 15 years and watched it all happen.”

Other Mattison endorsers include Judi Whalen, Matt Canning and Erik Hoekstra.

Paul has received endorsements from former Gov. Howard Dean, Senate President Pro Tem Philip Baruth, former Ward 7 Councilor Bianka Cimrin, and Ward 4 Councilor Sarah Carpenter. All of the endorsements praised her ability to build coalitions.

The 1 pm, Sunday December 10 party caucus will be held virtually. An in-person option at Edmunds Middle School is available for those who require special accommodation.

  1. The police and fire unions must have gotten tired of listening to StepfordWife.

  2. How ridiculous.. Paul’s “ability to build coalitions” – yeah, sure, a coalition only made up of cult-like minded “regressives”: Socialists, Marxists, Maoists, BLM, anarchists, etc. All of whom work their virtue signaling while Burlington sinks further into the dystopian abyss…. Libertarians, Independents, conservatives and other non-regressive minded citizens need not apply.
