At his press conference last week, VDC asked Gov. Phil Scott if Vermont should institute its own version of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, AKA DOGE.
The governor’s answer: “It’s not a bad idea.”
Scott explained that his administration did something DOGE-like before Covid sidetracked everything. “We had some people from the outside looking at what we were doing. We found a lot of opportunities, and we actually fixed some issues along the way.” he said.
Scott doesn’t think giving anyone “unfettered access” to state data is a good idea. And, it’s not on the front burner with education and public safety and affordability taxation.
But – “it’s not a bad idea to reinstitute that,” the governor summarized.

“And, it’s not on the front burner with education and public safety and affordability taxation.”
I would think that these three items be better served if you did DOGE first.
Having a Vermont DOGE is a GREAT IDEA!!
It should be a priority above ALL ELSE, because YOU KNOW Governor Scott, the Vermont State Government is a smaller version of the federal government with its layers of bureaucrats over-regulating and over-spending.
We all know that the largest employer in the State of Vermont is the State of Vermont. The only thing that may be worse, is the number of money-sucking “non-profits” that exist in Vermont.
Courage Governor! Please have the Courage! Please DOGE the Vermont State Government and the Vermont Non-profits at the same time!
NOW THAT WOULD BE MUCH NEEDED AND MEANINGFUL REFORM!!
Well, vtbeliever, you’re aptly named.
Just click your heels together three times, and say, “Courage Governor! Please have the Courage! Please DOGE the Vermont State Government and the Vermont Non-profits at the same time!
NOW THAT WOULD BE MUCH NEEDED AND MEANINGFUL REFORM!!”
It cannot and will not happen. Period.
But it will sort itself out as the giant grift is unraveled and all those lovely NGO’s, “non-profits”, media shills, and kickback cut-outs wither in the DC vine. There might be some houses for sale in VT, after all.
Vermont has an unbelievable amount of nonprofits and lobbyists, otherwise known as grifters….
When the fox runs the henhouse, things will stay as the fox dictates.
The legislator/NGO/Lobbyist triad will prevent any substantive change-
With no pressure on the Vermont legislature to reform ethics rules things will continue on. What we are seeing on the federal level with money laundering is part and parcel to how the Vermont legislature operates…
Whatever we do, we don’t want someone looking at the books openly and completely, which is why Vermont earned one of the lowest ethical grades in the nation, a D-.
We could cut our budget 50% and get better results. People are making too much bank of the current system, he wants nothing to do with cuts, he even said so.
GUY AWESOME VIDEO CLIP OF ASKING A POLITICIAN AND QUESTION AND LETTING THE PUBLIC HERE THEIR RESPONSE….
AWESOME!!!!!!!
Keep asking, why would Doge be bad? It was founded by Obama…lol…..keep probing.
The investigation Vermont was doing before Covid-19 left many stones unturned. Either by accident or they knew certain things that should not be audited.
Regardless, DOGE is here ! Once we start seeing Vermonter’s in DC connected, it will just trickle down into how Vermont spent Federal money. Connecting a few Vermont state employees, probably some in the City Hall’s and Town Government’s along the way.
Exposure is Coming.
“The pandemic side-tracked that”. Pandemic? or a D/P supermajority, spending “free” federal dollars that cost every taxpayer dearly?
Hey Governor when the last time we had a balanced state budget ?? Maybe you’re
on to something with this DOGE concept, but your progressive friends will hate you.
There’s nothing wrong with an audit on Government spending, as every other business does this yearly or every other year, just to make sure things are on the up and up, and we surely don’t need any bureaucrats leading the charge !!
So why are Vermont’s DC deligation ” Sanders, Welch, Balint ” our own three stooges,
baulking at what DJT has initiated at the Federal level when we are $37T in debt, if you beleive our tax dollars are being well spent for the interest of these United States,
your either naive or stupid, let’s see who’s pockets are getting filled.
Those who are crying the loudist, probably have a reason to cry ……….. Just saying !!
You can be certain that the run off of DOGE will affect ALL the states. It’s time for the corrupt to step down/hide before they are taken away…but then again, there will be no where to hide!

Stop all grant money, would be a great first step, these, like the above video are things nobody in any state of mind would fund with their own money.
The fact our governor cannot and will not actively and aggressively go after waste, abuse and fraud, says way more than his nice word salad, he does better than Kamala, I will say, but word salad none the less.
I think to say stop all grant money is pretty shortsighted and not how emerging economies at all. Furthermore, no one in the world has benefitted from the system that he decries more than Elon himself. I’ve noticed that while DOGE is busy slashing funds for male circumcision’s in Ghana, he missed the $480 million that went his companies to build toy rockets to try to fly to Mars.
There are tons of non-profits that do nothing in Vermont, I can think of a couple off the top of my head where most of the money goes to Admin salaries, but start with an audit, not slashing and burning like we’re doing now.
Hey Comrade Chris, do you mean one of those toy rockets that is going up to save the astronauts stranded on the space station in about four weeks?
In the grand scheme of things, I too might have rockets to mars lower on the list, he has been more effective with his rockets, no question there.
Our local grant project was a winner of awards, for the pocket park, that means it was one of the best ideas of all the grant proposals. It was for a pocket park, innocent enough. What is a pocket park? Some plantings, some stonework and park benches, on 875 sq ft., what would you guess the expense would be?
How about $230,000.
See it was being built in the flood way (major current of flood), on a piece of rock (literally) our town bought for a million dollars per acre ($20,000). They had engineering and permitting expenses around $45,000. This was done by the regional planning commission. The towns people had all sorts of wonderful ideas that would have cost about $5,000 and public participation. At the meeting they presented 3 idea, the one the wanted, a really stupid one that wouldn’t work and just a bad design of another. They wanted no public input, it was all theatre, so they say they we open to public discussion.
I believe this was the event, but just posting the expenses that was public knowledge and describing what we were paying for was the event that got me permanently banned from Front Porch Forum.
Based upon this being the best idea presented and the fact I’ve seen other grant proposals that were “free money” I’d be very, very comfortable stopping all grant proposals, can understand why some wouldn’t.
Any major municipal project should be funded 50% by town or state that is making the proposal, that would also weed out bad ideas or 2% or 5% financial participation that makes the project essentially no money down. If people/towns/state is willing to pay 50% and gets voter approval, it’s probably a safe bet and needed. This would completely streamline the process too.
Grant writing is the good ole boy network, trust me on that.
You are 100% correct about all the non-profits, sadly it also fits for many “churches”.
Hey Old Man James. get back to me when that happens.
I guess Gov Scott must be a VDC reader. Go back about 10-14 days ago, where in one of my replies I suggested the exact same thing, that we need a Vermont DOGE. And a lot of people agreed with me.
So I hereby offer to provide my Common Sense Services (CSS, just because we need more acronyms) to Gov Scott. He can then bestow on me, and I will accept, the title of “The People’s Voice Advisor”.
You’re welcome, Governor. It’s what I do.
Vermont’s liberal politicians have just as much of a bad habit of overspending as their federal couterparts, but what we dont have is a currency printing press to cover our debts.
When Vermont’s budget has rather rapidly jumped from $6B to $9B. And are there figures to show what has happened to collective school budget jumps for the state? I would hope DOGE might quickly become front burner activity. With businesses not eager to come, people no longer flocking here and more people leaving and dying and young people looking elsewhere, Vermont really should prioritize sound financial DOGE investigations. Good call, Guy.
The all-encompassing default excuse for generations to come: Culling-19. Similar to the Tower of Babylon – how many lies can be stacked upon one foundational lie? As we see coming out of DC and Montpelier, the number seems unlimited and still going strong with impunity. The EU tower is coming apart and only the beginning of their sorrows, and ours too – buckle up.
The good news is the ivory towers of fraud and corruption are cracking and set to collapse. Hallelujah! The dry rot showing at the top only means the more demolition, the more moldy, stinking, stanky rot in the State, cities and towns will be exposed. Only the beginning, but a good start. Seeing the rats and roaches panic and gaslight themselves is uplifting to my spirit. Fraud has a limited shelf life and there is no honor among thieves.
King Philip the Scott 1st Eunuch King of Castrati will never initiate a VT DOGE. He was put in office by the Commiecrats and would be voted by them out as soon as you can say Mayor Eric Adams.
Fortunately, we now have former democrat John Rodgers waiting in the wings for when Gov. Scott gets tired of dealing with these moonbats, as I assume he already is.
We should be grateful that he is still in office, since the alternative is Gov. Baruth, Gov. Krowinski or Gov. LaLonde…scared now?
Where are all the Republicans who ran on cutting spending and taxes?
Where is the plan and who owns?
If there is no plan, why is that?
If nothing is done in the next 3 weeks, the Republicans are finished.
The VTGOP are going to build on what they have done for the last 30 years. (How’s that for flowery language?)
The VTGOP is dead, beat the horse all you like. They propped the horse up at a summer party, they are making nice sounds, but nothing is going to happen. Just like the last 30 years, it’s the plan, it’s what he’s doing, the talk is very, very cheap, I mean sophisticated…..
I’d love to know where TJ and Skumlin ran off to without a peep and a whole lotta money.
The gang in the state house want to stay until summer. Good ,no pay after April 15 2025 no free food card no housing allowance no paid transportation costs and we will see how they like working for nothing.
