Scott leads top 100 2024 campaign spenders

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By Guy Page

The revamped campaign finance page on the Vermont Secretary of State’s website is far easier to read than the previous version. Last night, I was clicking through the page and, lo, candidate names, expenditures and contributions popped up, just like that.

So kudos to Elections Director Sean Sheehan and whoever else contributed to this far less inscrutable data collection.

A quick read of the top 13 suggests that while money helps – a lot – neither is it a sure thing. The second and third largest state senate fundraisers both lost their elections. And is Treasurer Mike Treasurer merely being fiscally frugal by spending just over half of the $387K he raised – or is he saving for a 2026 run for governor?

The data doesn’t say. But you’re free to infer.

Without further ado, here are the top 100 campaign spenders for the 2024 General Election. Federal candidates not included. To see 101-335 of the listed candidates, hit the ‘next page’ arrow on the bottom of the page.

  1. It costs a lot of money to stay on the Vermont government dole. Got to love that free food card, paid housing costs, paid transportation costs and a good pay check to go with it.

  2. Yes, it takes a ton of money to stay in politics, especially when you have outside money tainting the well………….. yup that’s politics !!

  3. Look at Pieciak and Clark — keeping back huge sums for future runs? They are both anti-Vermonter. Pieciak has used his position as Treasurer to create a “Task Force” to “protect” illegals while Vermonters are victimized by crime and our law enforcement are put in harm’s way. Clark stood for the state and schools against parents’ rights when my 6-year-old client was vaccinated AGAINST his parents’ instructions, and now she is using taxpayer money to stop fiscal integrity in DOGE. On the record for their next narcissistic political aspirations. Enemies of the State, both.

  4. The dems are well oiled and well funded the GOP & Dame need to start NOW if they want to hav a chance in 26
