A Sheldon school bus driver had been charged with striking a student passenger.
State police say that at 4:38 PM Dec. 14, they received a report from the Sheldon Elementary School that a bus driver, Mitch Boyer, 68, of Highgate Springs, had struck a student with his hand on the bus at around 3:30 PM. The investigation revealed that Boyer did strike the child victim. Police provided no further details.
Boyer turned himself in to State Police on December 16. He was cited and released to appear in Franklin County Court on January 30 for the charges of Simple Assault and Cruelty to a Child.
The bus company associated with this incident is Terricel Transit out of Swanton.

No doubt the kid was being disruptive and destructive.
Having seen what the drivers have to go through, it’s clear the kid probably deserved it.
30 years ago, this would have been applauded and the kid would probably clean up his act. Now in Woke-topia, there is no discipline only ‘feelings’.
Wow, there are going to be a whole slew of nuns that are now well over 90 plus years of age clogging up court systems from Maine to California…..ah, those were the good old days.
They’ll probably take away Sister Mary Thumbtack’s triangular ruler, bless her dear soul…
In the “old days”, the misbehaving brat would have been given a choice…be hit with the back of the driver’s hand or the front of his/her hand, and the driver would not have his/her motives questioned. Now what matters is not whether the driver or the student is a him/her but a him/her/they…
Our district pays ‘bus riders’ I think it was like $25 per trip and I guess they are supposed to help control the out of control behavior so the driver can focus on driving. Behavior related budget items are at an all time high with no sign of slowing down. Maybe schools should start teaching parenting 101 classes because respect and discipline begins at home.
when I was a kid riding the school bus you did NOT mess around period!!! and if you did there was hell to pay for when you got home!
The school bus (used to be a privilege). When I was a kid – you acted up – you walked to school. Or your parents had to drive you, and that didn’t improve your day to day relationship with mom and dad.
Its so sad to read about the people in the comments bragging about being beaten as children. The same ones who have the most unhinged comments on this site, which bears the question, “did the beatings work”?
Apparently for them it did! Do you not understand that after they got “beaten,” as you put it🙄, they didn’t continue! Then their children had children that did not do the same because it was now wrong and parents get called on, so the kids ended up being uncontrollable, disrespectful, sassy mouth, little brats cause they knew nothing would happen!!
Yup!
It was a different time. However, teacher’s always controlled their class. Bus drivers always controlled their bus. Getting kicked off the bus didn’t happen much because everyone knew the reprocussions of bad behavior. Same was true at school. NOW, despite the behavior of the child teachers / bus drivers can’t touch the child, and they know it. There is no punishment for bad behavior. It starts from home. Then the kids become adults and they think there is no punishment.
Remember Mr. Clark, Bobby? No-one messed with him. Or Mike Marshall.
Using discipline and teaching your child to respect other humans doesn’t have to invoke physical beating. However, sometimes a misbehaving brat needs to be shown that disturbing a driver who is operating a bus full of other humans is a serious matter and physical force is a logical response. Try the “non-violent act” of not paying your taxes and eventually men with guns will show up where you live to bring you into compliance. Some people just dont respond to reasoning and logic…just an unfortunate fact of life.
I am sure it was for a reason. I noticed they are wording it as striking which is hokey. The kid got a slap and that’s all.
His parents need to sit up and take notice so someone else does not have to discipline their child.
Mr Boyer should not be made the bad guy here.
Would it be so difficult to put a surveillance camera on buses? Easy to see if the discipline was warranted. I support instant karma.
All “Richard” had to do was give us a look in his mirror. We didn’t dare see what he would do. A much better system. Our teachers had paddles.
