Chittenden County’s controversial prosecutor will seek re-election next year, Sarah George told WVMT’s Morning Drive Wednesday.
“Are you planning on seeking the Democratic nomination, despite being a Progressive?” a caller asked.
“Yes, I am planning on running next year on the Democratic ticket…. Yes, I am a Democrat,” George replied.

As the interview opened, host Dan Feliciano lost no time asking George about the controversial policy of “catch and release,” in which suspects are not jailed or given the cash bail option but instead are released pending another court appearance.
“It’s just such an archaic term,” George said. “To act as if this is some new thing… the only thing that has changed is that our bail laws have changed. It is harder for judges to impose bail.” She added that “Prosecutors are not responsible for who is or is not released… it is entirely up to a judge.”
But she showed her sympathies are clearly for pre-trial release: “People are entitled to their freedom until the state has proven their guilt,” especially with property crimes. “We have to prioritize who is taking those [pre-trial jail] beds. I will always prioritize people who are charged with committing violent crimes over people who are charged with commiting property crimes.”
She also questioned whether imposing cash bail even keeps suspects off the street. Even in cases involving repeat offenders, cash bail is often posted by non-profits, and the suspect walks free without losing their own cash, she said.
The election will be held in November. In Chittenden County, the state’s attorney is elected every four years. George won re-election unopposed in November, 2022 after easily besting Democrat challenger Ted Kenney (17,907 – 11,045) in an August, 2022 Democrat primary. The primary race was expected by many to be closer due to concerns about growing violent crime, drug abuse and homelessness. Instead, she won every town and city in Chittenden County.

REPUBLICANS NEED TO STEP UP AND RUN. Or even non-fringe Democrats. There needs to be an alternative offered, or else Chittenden County will be stuck with her.
Headline fixed:
Sarah George to seek doubling-down in 2026
“Even in cases involving repeat offenders, cash bail is often posted by non-profits, and the suspect walks free without losing their own cash, she said.”
Hopefully many of those “non-profits” have had their lifeblood $ reduced by Trump policies and they have less cash to waste on encouraging malevolent behavior.
We can only hope that the virulent strain of Trump Derangement Syndrome that pervades Chittenden County will not add to her support any more than it has in the past. This woman is societal poison.
Rest assured she will be re-elected by advocating for gun control by invoking the Minneapolis shooting and pulling the strings of the indoctrinated college population in Burlington
When Burlington re-elects her, the citizens give up all right to complain. They will continue getting what they voted for.
So, why hasn’t any republican introduced a bill to strip out of state college students their privileged to vote. They can still vote where they came from. They have no skin in the Vermont way of life. They are temporary residents and should not be allowed to vote here. Most are supported financially by their parents. Most are not even paying for their dormitory room and food plan. This was another ploy by democrats because most students are liberal and can be convinced or indoctrinated in class by college professors like our Senate ProTem Baruth an English professor at UVM and another partisan hack for the democrat party.

Non-profits aiding and abetting criminals, is this a RICO incident?
This is a major issue.
Who is funding the non-profits, which non-profits are doing this? Donors might like to know! Citizens of Vermont might like to know!
Neil, it had been discovered earlier this year that many of the NGO’s that were supporting these Democrat issues are using your Federal tax money! That is why there was so much screaming when funding cut to them, such as US Agency for International Development, kickback central, even funding Soros foundation. Thanks Elon
The police, the law and the judiciary are intended to protect the citizens. A significant minority of citizenry feels that they are not protected and prosecutor Sarah George is reason. Her pursuit of other agendas has left them in harm’s way. Will they rise up in sufficient numbers to resurrect the civic life of Chittenden? Will the developing Vermont good sense counter revolution replace her?
Boy, I hope so ! One thing is for sure though, after this election wewill know for sure that the electorate in Chittenden Co.either have their heads on their shoulders, or up their ___ !
“She also questioned whether imposing cash bail even keeps suspects off the street. Even in cases involving repeat offenders, cash bail is often posted by non-profits, and the suspect walks free without losing their own cash, she said.”
Well, one would think that after a couple times of getting burned (and losing their cash layout) these “non-profits” would smarten up and start letting these losers rot in jail. Also, I really hope that Chittenden County wakes up this time and gives George the opportunity to pursue her real calling…social worker NOT prosecutor!
Sarah George is funded by George Soros—· Chittenden County State’s Attorney Sarah George has strong ties to Fair and Just Prosecution, a George Soros-funded organization backing progressive criminal prosecutors nationwide. That should tell you everything
Sarah George for prison’26
How about Sara George for the unemployment line in 2026 ?
“People are entitled to their freedom until the state has proven their guilt,” especially with property crimes. “We have to prioritize who is taking those [pre-trial jail] beds. I will always prioritize people who are charged with committing violent crimes over people who are charged with commiting property crimes.”
Notice to insurance companies, business and property owners: Sarah George signals a big price hike for property, auto, and business coverage rates – the risk within Chittenden County is way higher than currently priced. Property crimes do include arson, vandalism, burglary, looting, theft, forgery, and embezzlement. The Chittenden County State Prosecutor publically stated those crimes are not her priority. Therefore, the risk of losses is highly probable, if not guaranteed by the steward of law and order within that County. Price the policies according to Sarah George’s statement or drop those risks/customers like hot biscuits. Well done Sarah, well done!
George belies her true socialist allegiance.
Like Mamdani in NYC, who has stated he wants to abolish prosecution for misdemeanors, George’s statements indicate that she, too, would like there to no private property so the state can own and control everything. She wouldn’t be as candid as Mamdami, but her very actions and lack of moral courage to do what she was ostensibly elected by voters to do—diligently and impartially execute her duties as the top law enforcer in Chittenden County—demonstrate her intentions.
Let us not forget that George did candidly state several years ago that the reason she went to law school was to “dismantle the criminal legal system.”
Need the voters know any more than that disgusting piece of information to overwhelmingly vote her out of the office and public trust she has so abused?
martin, you must be furious about Trump’s socialist allegiance. You must be furious that the administration is investing billions of dollars in Intel.
