Juan Hernandez-Santos has a criminal history of multiple DUIs, possession of a controlled substance, and two prior removals from the U.S.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced last week that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged a detainer for Juan Hernandez-Santos, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico who is accused of causing a wreck while driving an 18-wheeler that slammed into another vehicle, causing a six-car pile-up, including with a school bus on the morning of December 4, 2025, in Lacey, Washington. Local authorities did not honor the ICE detainer due to sanctuary policies, and he was subsequently released from custody.
As reported by VDC last week, Vermont is not immune to serious crashes involving tractor-trailers driven by immigrants with questionable driving training and skills: see December 8 news story, Truck driver from India serving sentence in Vermont fatal crash.
The crash reportedly resulted in three individuals being hospitalized.

According to local reports, state authorities say Hernandez-Santos did not possess a commercial driver’s license, yet was operating a semi-truck when he caused the pile-up.
“This dangerous illegal alien has a criminal history including multiple DUIs, possessing a controlled substance, and two prior removals from the U.S. He was a walking public safety threat and illegally was driving a massive 18-wheeler when he caused a six-car pile-up involving a school bus on the highway in Washington,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Thankfully, no children were in the bus. This story could have had a very different tragic ending. The sanctuary politicians in Washington failed once again to protect American citizens by refusing to honor our ICE arrest detainer.”

On February 24, 2005, United States Border Patrol (USBP) removed Hernandez-Santos to Mexico. He illegally re-entered—a felony—and was removed again from the U.S. June 7, 2006.
On an unknown date, and at an unknown place, he re-entered the United States for a third time.
His previous criminal history includes:
- On May 24, 2008, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office arrested Hernandez-Santos for driving without a license.
- He was arrested again just one month later, on June 7, 2008, in California for driving under the influence and a hit-and-run with property damage.
- On November 2, 2018, he was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
- On February 24, 2020, the Los Angeles Police Department arrested Hernandez for driving under the influence
In recent months, we’ve seen a disturbing pattern of criminal illegal aliens driving commercial vehicles on American roads, directly threatening public safety and resulting in senseless loss of life.
DHS law enforcement has arrested hundreds of illegal aliens driving commercial vehicles despite having no legal status in the U.S. In October, Secretary Kristi Noem announced that a successful 287(g) operation resulted in the arrest of 146 illegal alien truck drivers. ICE also arrested 91 illegal aliens driving 18-wheelers in Indiana in October.
In November, ICE arrested Akhror Bozorov, a criminal illegal alien from Uzbekistan wanted in his origin country for belonging to a terrorist organization, in Kansas. He was working as a commercial truck driver despite no legal status in the U.S.
In August, ICE lodged an arrest detainer for a criminal illegal alien—Harjinder Singh—following his arrest for three counts of vehicular homicide while driving a semi-truck in Florida.
DHS law enforcement is protecting American communities every day from another senseless tragedy like this taking place in another town, to another family. Victims of illegal alien crime may receive support from the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office by contacting 1-855-488-6423.

I hope our legislature pays attention to California’s policies. And by trying to be little California, this is the crap we are likely to see in the future. This is what pisses me off about the no kings idiots I see every weekend. They are protesting against Trump, in support of people like this repeat felon, and also illegal non-citizen. If they love these people so much, why not jump on the next CBP bus and help em fix they’re country so they’ll stay put? Ask yourself this, are you prepared to loose your family member to murder, traffic accident, etc.? To an illegal who should not be here? I am not, and am not able to support any moron who is. Open your eyes people, this country is being overrun, and if not quenched, we will see cultural takeover on a grand scale, unless we unite against it. The Muslim culture has no qwams speaking out in regards to there plan. Stop fighting amongst ourselves, the real enemy is all around us, and yes, it is only a matter of when, not if. Prepare yourselves, God bless.
And speaking of driving….for years, VT has offered a Driver’s Privilege card to illegal immigrants which allows them to drive “legally” (although if you aren’t supposed to even be here, I can’t quite figure that one out?) which also enables them to insure and register a vehicle. This was granted years ago and perhaps in the beginning, some illegal Mexican farmworkers took it seriously and went through all the steps to obtain one.
Fast forward to now: we had 4 years of Biden castrating Border Patrol, progressive Vermont politicians defunding police in favor of “restorative practices”, and the ceaseless lobbying and drama generated by the aggressive, illegal immigrant ‘advocacy’ group, Migrant Justice. Come to Franklin county and you will now see scores of illegal Mexican workers with cars, and at this point, because of the perfect storm of the aforementioned factors, they stopped bothering to even get the Driver’s Privilege card because….well, why bother? Nothing is enforced so why go through the hoops? The cherry on top to all these unlicensed drivers on the road, is that because they aren’t licensed, they now can’t register or insure their vehicles. So guess what? They don’t. They buy old plates off of people just to have something on their cars. And “insurance is for suckers” (an actual quote by a worker- why pay for something you may never use?). There is a saying in México that it is better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission; I would say that sums up their attitude towards how they conduct themselves in VT. As long as there are zero consequences and they know they can do what they want, they will keep pushing the envelope.
( P.S. We will have to talk about cultural norms and attitudes surrounding drinking and driving another day. )
There are Federal regulations on issuing a Commercial Drivers License, CDL, that are being totally ignored by all Blue States resulting in death and disability of US citizens by non compliance
Got to wonder if all those cars on that truck were stolen??? Now, please stop bashing Franklin County as we abide by all the laws in this country. JUST KIDDING.
