Rutland mayor faces challenge from alderman

Rutland City voters will choose between incumbent mayor Mike Doenges and challenger Henry A. Heck, an alderman and former City Clerk, at the Rutland City Meeting 7 AM – 7 PM Tuesday, March 4. 

Aldermen also will choose six from a list of alderman candidates including Alex Adams, David Allaire, Peter F. Clearfield, Paul C. Clifford, Larry Cupoli, Carol Dawley, Curt Esposito, William “Billy” Gillam Jr., Gina Grove, John McCann, Hanna McClure, and Carole Savage.

School Commissioner: Karen A. Bossi, Sara Dages, Meredith Donohue-Levine, Christina Sweet, and Lauren Weiss are running for four open seats. 

Budget Articles include:

Article 1: Asks voters if the City of Rutland should adopt a budget of $26,709,708.98 for the fiscal year of 2026?

Bond Article 1: Pertains to whether the City should issue general obligation bonds or notes for $4,830,000 to finance certain state-granted improvements.

Articles 4-10: Concern taxes required for replacement equipment, capital funds for school equipment, educational or legal purposes and more.

Voters also will be asked to allocate funds to support various community services, including but not limited to: VCL/RAIS, Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, Community Health Services, treatment services, transitional housing, Women’s Network and Shelter, GED and language learning, Regional Ambulance Service, Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum, and mentoring for youth.
