  1. Well, Vermont with its Super ” Stupid ” Majority, this is what you get, just look at how your representative voted, let’s take your 13.8% property tax ” Increase ” are you proud of their decision, to drag you financially down………………..

Wake up people, they don’t care, you are the money tree, and their, attitude is just deal with it, and that’s their mindset!!

You vote them in, year after year.

  2. Just out of curiosity, especially with our legislators whining about how they can’t afford to serve…..how many receive income sensitivity on their own property taxes?

  3. I really think every legislator should have to raise their right hand and swear to uphold a version of the Hippocratic oath similar to what doctors swear to..”First do no harm”.. or “I swear to abstain from all intentional wrong doing and harm”
Vermonters are being harmed by the very people (they) elected thinking these people would make their lives better.. Time to WAKE UP and clean house or Vermont is done. It may already be too late to right this sinking ship!

    • CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF VERMONT
      § 16. [Representatives’ oaths]

The Representatives having met, and chosen their Speaker and Clerk, shall each of them, before they proceed to business, take and subscribe, as well the oath or affirmation of allegiance hereinafter directed (except where they shall produce certificates of their having theretofore taken and subscribed the same) as the following oath or affirmation:

You do solemnly swear (or affirm) that as a member of this Assembly, you will not propose, or assent to, any bill, vote or resolution, which shall appear to you injurious to the people, nor do nor consent to any act or thing whatever, that shall have a tendency to lessen or abridge their rights and privileges, as declared by the Constitution of this State; but will, in all things, conduct yourself as a faithful, honest Representative and guardian of the people, according to the best of your judgment and ability. (In case of an oath) So help you God. (Or in case of an affirmation) Under the pains and penalties of perjury.”

On the other hand, the requirement “to the best of your judgment and ability” isn’t defined. Surely, the mere attempt is all that’s required. No guarantees. At least not to the extent the rest of us agree to when we enter into all sorts of private contracts.

It’s little wonder then that ‘private’ or ‘independent’ are dirty words in politics. And it explains why the public sector is always unaccountable.

“Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don’t mean to do harm; but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.” – T. S. Eliot

  4. If this excessive property tax isn’t reason enough to drain the swamp then there never will be one. If you voted for these people, you have no basis to complain as it is your fault and please, I don’t want to hear, “And support a Republican?” But then why should I care, I’ll be speaking with my contractor Monday about the building of my house in East Tennessee.

    • Mr. John: From what I have been able to glean from many sources: NONE OF US has voted for a minimum of 40 YEARS.

You DO know that our overlords passed a VOTING MACHINES ONLY law, right? The one we were not asked about.
You know the same voting machines owned and hacked by CHINA?????

Speaking of asking: I want all VT politicians to produce their signatures affirming they actually took their oath of office!!!!

      ANYONE WITH ME???

    • The ‘excessive property tax’ is one of the very reasons we can’t drain the swamp. The two wolves have decided to have the lamb for lunch.

    • I envy you. Real nice people too. They always wave when you pass on a country road. Here, in Vermont, not so much… if at all.

Rocky Top, you’ll always be home sweet home to me.

  5. Romans 1:28-32 “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

In light of what is going on here and elsewhere, the verse appears accurate and fitting to me. Biblical times indeed. They know it better than those who proclaim to know it and follow it. They should also know it does not end well for them, but they don’t see past their own self-destruction. There within lies the Truth and the twist of fate. The harvest is ready.

  6. Vote for me King Philip the Scott 1st Eunuch King of Castrati so more of my vetos can be overridden by the Commiecrats that put me here and by the way I do not support Donald J. Trump.

PS: I am a Republican you know.

  7. Guy, thank you for this fantastic and thorough summary of the roll call votes. it is very helpful and exposes the extent of party loyalty and adherence to party dictates rather than intelligent and thoughtful decision making. This kind of governing completely fails to fulfill the goals of the Vermont Constitution and fails to serve the people on a grand scale. If there is a grade lower than F minus? If so, they’ve earned it.

I’m sure there are Vermonters who blindly believe the lies, thinking the legislators are the experts and they know best; but I pray for a great awakening when the shtf resulting from the passage of these bills. Unfortunately it will be too late for the many who will be harmed. The November elections won’t solve the problem because many of these elected useful idiots are running unopposed.

  8. Andy Julow, just appointed by Gov. Scott to fill the late Sen. Dick Mazza’s seat posted this on Front Porch Forum (Issue 4381, June 10):

“Education Yield Bill. This is the big one. A 14% increase in the base education tax rate and a study to explore and propose changes to the education funding formula. Can we wait another year to change the formula? The Governor believes not, and based on feedback from you, and my own experience, I’m inclined to agree.”

Wow, didn’t take him long to turn against his new constituents!

    • Well, good for Mr. Julow, I think. Thanks for passing this on.

Just wondering, Alan, why you believe you haven’t been excommunicated from FPF like so many of us have?

    • H. Jay Eshelman – Lol! It’s a delicate balance between biting my tongue and, as diplomatically as possible, still getting my point across. Still, I had one contribution not published there some time ago.

  9. just another day at the vermont zoo////// pay your property taxes and get back into your cave////// the dog and pony show will last forever and you will own nothing and will be happy////

  10. THANK YOU Oh Great Overlords for protecting me from my own incredibly selfish desire to keep as much of my own money as possible.

THANK YOU for reminding me, with your steel toed boot, that I MUST be grateful you haven’t OVERTLY done everything to get it through my thick skull that AMERICANS are not wanted here; that AMERICANS should really get the message loud and clear that WE are breathing the air and eating the food and living in the houses that ARE NOT FOR US. And WE ALL know WHO you are paving the road for.

THANK YOU for making it oh-so-clear that I have no voice, just money that the drunk with power can pilfer at will.

THANK YOU for giving me this opportunity to impart my true and unvarnished sentiments:
Usurpers who consider themselves worthy of being DECIDERS: There’s always gonna be a DECIDER after YOU…

“First they came for the socialists, but I was not a socialist, so I said nothing……..”
Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer, WWII Nazi Germany dissident

  11. “”The possession of great power necessarily implies great responsibility.” – MP William Lamb, June 27, 1817

“”I submit respectfully to the House as a general principle that our responsibility in this matter is directly proportionate to our power. Where there is great power there is great responsibility” – Winston Churchill, 1906
