Burlington police report that Jermaine Webber, 36, of South Burlington was arrested and jailed for attempted second degree murder after they say he struck a person with his car on Cherry Street in Burlington and then fled the scene.

The crime took place shortly before midnight on Tuesday, March 19, in the 100 block of Cherry Street, near the bus depot and Church Street intersection. It is not known whether any of the individuals involved were temporary residents of the state’s emergency shelter established last weekend at 108 Cherry Street.

Police say the hit and run followed an earlier dispute between Webber and the individual who was struck.

Main Street shooting – Gunshots shattered the relative quiet of Main Street between Church Street and S. Winooski Ave. in Burlington on Saturday, March 16 around 2 AM, prompting a swift response from the Burlington Police Department. Officers swiftly arrived at the scene, conducting a preliminary investigation, securing the crime scene, and gathering statements from witnesses.

Shortly after the incident, a male victim arrived at the UVM Medical Center Emergency Department, bearing a gunshot wound that linked him directly to the Main Street shooting. Fortunately, the victim’s injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, and he was promptly treated and released from the hospital.

The Burlington Police apprehended Jaiden Green, a 19-year-old resident of Burlington, on 3/16/24 at approximately 7:00 PM. Green was charged with the serious offense of 2nd Degree Attempted Murder. However, a Chittenden County Judge ordered Green’s release on certain conditions. The judge issued a citation for Green to appear in court today, Monday the 18th, at 10:30 AM. – Story derived from official police statements.

Reckless in Waitsfield – Another crack of a gun broke the night air on March 12, around 9:19 PM on Verd Mont Rd., Waitsfield, prompting an investigation by State Troopers of the Berlin Barracks. The incident involved a family dispute that escalated. Hunter Larrabee, a resident of Berlin, had recklessly discharged his firearm, damaging his own property in the process.

Larrabee now faces charges including Reckless Endangerment and Disorderly Conduct. Taking responsibility for his actions, Larrabee turned himself in to the Berlin Barracks on March 16 for processing. He was then released with a citation, which mandates his appearance at Washington County Superior Court on March 28 to address the charges against him.
