Raid nets drugs, guns, cash & 5 suspects

Vermont State Police arrested five people and seized large quantities of drugs, firearms and cash Wednesday night while executing a search warrant at a Sand Hill Road property as part of an ongoing drug investigation.

At about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, troopers assigned to the Royalton Barracks, along with several specialized Vermont State Police units and partner agencies, executed a court-authorized search warrant at 739 Sand Hill Rd. Police said numerous people were detained without incident and no injuries were reported.

During the search, investigators recovered about 370.3 grams of cocaine and 45.93 grams of fentanyl, along with seven firearms and approximately $9,500 in cash.

The following individuals were taken into custody or cited in connection with the incident:
– Dayquan Smith, 34, of Hartford, Connecticut, was arrested on charges of fentanyl trafficking, cocaine trafficking, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and manufacturing. Smith was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility and held on $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Windsor County Superior Court in Woodstock at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22.
– Kevin Hodgdon, 34, of Bethel, was cited for possession of an unsecured firearm. He was not lodged and is scheduled to appear in court at 12:30 p.m. March 31 in Woodstock.
– Eleni Howe, 32, of Sharon, was arrested on two active in-state warrants for petit larceny and providing false information to a law enforcement officer. Howe was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility and held on $200 bail for each warrant. She is scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22.
– Angel Blanchard, 32, of Hartford, Vermont, was arrested on multiple warrants, including Vermont warrants for failure to appear on a heroin possession charge and heroin trafficking, as well as New Hampshire warrants for fentanyl possession and failure to appear on a methamphetamine possession charge. Blanchard was held on $75,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22.
– Jamie Macdonald, 40, of Woodstock, was arrested on New Hampshire warrants for amphetamine possession and failure to appear on a methamphetamine possession charge. Macdonald is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22.

Vermont State Police said several specialized units were deployed during the operation, including the Tactical Services Unit, Bomb Squad, Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program and Crisis Negotiation Unit. Assistance was provided by the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife and White River Valley Ambulance, which was on standby.

  1. We can only hope that our US Attorney will be taking these cases to federal court, especially the felon-with-gun, since Vermont district courts and prosecutors regard these folks as victims and not perpetrators.

  2. It’s sad to see the same people over and over get arrested especially when you knew a person when they were a sweet young girl!!! Do something concrete the first time!!!
