| by the Journal-Opinion Direct Source Seafood is recalling roughly 83,800 bags of frozen raw shrimp imported from Indonesia, including some 1-pound bags of shrimp sold at Price Chopper this year are subject to a recall due to Cesium-137 exposure. “The recalled packs of shrimp were sold in 1-pound bags at Price Chopper under the Market 32 brand in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont with a sales date on or after 11 July 2025.” The FDA has more details. The shrimp were also sold in stores in western states. |

| Between atmospheric nuclear weapons testing in the 1950s and the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, scientists have been aware of fallout-contaminated reindeer for decades. The fallout rains on cold region lichen, which the animals graze on. “In 1962, biologist William Pruitt at University of Alaska-Fairbanks published a detailed report on the lichen-caribou-human contamination pathway. … ‘one would expect the entire food chain to be contaminated.’” |
| Rare Jesus fresco unearthed in Turkey |
| “Archaeologists in Turkey have uncovered one of the most important finds from Anatolia’s early Christian era: a fresco of a Roman-looking Jesus as the ‘Good Shepherd,'” reports the Associated Press. The fresco is believed to date to the 3rd century. “Before the cross was widely adopted as Christianity’s universal symbol, the Good Shepherd motif played a key role in expressing faith, indicating protection, salvation and divine guidance.” Pope Leo XIV recently visited the site. A Turkish art historian believes excavations could reveal one of the world’s largest ancient urban sites. |
