VDC editor’s note: Soon after Burlington native and San Francisco exile Peter Santonello posted his videos of the Californifaction of Burlington, the national media ‘discovered’ the Queen City’s fall from grace as a peaceful, happy city. Below is an excerpt of just one of many, many current national news stories and commentaries.

    A city that followed the national anti-police mania of 2020 is learning the hard way just how big a mistake that was.

    Burlington, Vermont — which gave socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders his start in elected office four decades ago — made a conscious decision four years ago to cut its police force amid the riots that plagued the country after the death of accused counterfeiter George Floyd.

    Now, overrun by crime, drug addiction and homelessness, the city has attempted to change course, but progress hasn’t been easy, Fox News reported Friday. In fact, when it comes to police numbers, it’s pretty well non-existent.

    2. The Burlington the ” Queen City “has become the ” cesspool ” of the east, like it’s west coast counterpart LA and that progressive run city, with things like things like Crime, Drugs and Homelessness abound on every street.

      The above mentioned video filmed around ” Church Street ” what used to be a major focal point for business, is now a focal point for the scourge in Burlington, and this video shows just that, the remaining business & home owners should be all over city government and it’s feckless display on running a city and protection and security for it citizens……………….. how pathetic.

      Hey Burlington, how’s your new DEI Mayor working out for you, apparently she has not seen or noticed what’s going on in the city, but you have plenty of bike lanes and speed bumps and bump out……………….. outstanding use of your tax dollars !!

      Wake up people.

    3. Why would Vermont Police Academy cadets want to go boots-on-the-ground in third-world Burlington? They are not supported by the Communist City Council and all of the left-wing activists. I can’t blame them.

    4. The downfall of once-great Burlington shows just how much damage can result, and just how quickly it can happen when the darkness of socialism/wokism/leftism descends on a municipality. It is also a stark example of the danger of denial when you see it coming and fail to act in a common sense manner, such as electing a progressive mayor with intersectional characteristics over a much more qualified democrat. We can only hope that the country as a whole does not make the same mistake next week with Kamala.

      • I guess you haven’t heard about felon Trump,a rapist, sexist, convicted of financial fraud. And you think he would clean up crime? He actually commits it!

    5. If you think the liberal mindset in Burlington is bad, expand the thought and include the P’s and D’s (including lawyers) in Montpelier. The stupidity of these people is worse than the the influx of criminals and drugs. They support it.

      • Yes, Montpelier has been destroyed too. A once vibrant business oriented little city has been turned into another drug haven. Young people have nothing to compare it to. There were numerous restaurants, a candle pin bowling alley, 2 pool halls, numerous little bars and stores with lunch counters. The people wore decent clothing and were clean and polite. here was rarely any trouble. Young children could go downtown alone, and the people would look after their safety.

        The police actually walked around town. Bicycles were required to be licensed and to follow the laws of traffic signs, and there were diners open all night. There was a bakery on state street and many small businesses. Compare that with today. Call it nostalgia or whatever you like but it was a good time to live in Montpelier. I don’t go there now unless I have to. Montpelier has lost it’s community soul. I will not support either Montpelier or Burlington, both have been destroyed by wokeism and progressive politics and is very disappointing to see the decline.

    8. This is exactly what the residents of BTV have voted for time and again. Clear to me, neither me or my purchases belong there. As mentioned, every misfit in BTV is another Vermont town less one miscreant. I can live with that.

    12. I think Burlington should float an article in the next Election to increase Police oversight to further degrade Police Morale and get more to quit.
