Politico Chat leaker Gavin Wax: “Douglass obviously has the most to lose”

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
State Senator Sam Douglass, expected to resign today at noon (10/20)

By Paul Bean

Leaked texts show New York Young Republican leader Gavin Wax conspired with a Democratic Politico reporter to sabotage his own party’s members, including Vermont State Senator Sam Douglass, who resigned Friday with pressure from Vermont GOP leaders and amid threats to his wife and newborn baby.

It was all over a bitter power struggle. The text messages below show Gavin Wax’s correspondence with Politico journalist Jason Beeferman since September 2025. They show how Wax conspired with a Beeferman, a registered Democrat, to tarnish the reputations of his fellow Republicans over a seemingly petty internecine political dispute. These messages were obtained and shared by AF Post on X.

After sharing his phone number, Wax named Douglass as ”obviously having the most to lose.”

Reports have emerged Wax’s potential motives in turning on his own party stem from losing the Young Republican National Federation chairmanship to Peter Giunta in 2024, allegedly using the chat logs to extort members and undermine Giunta’s pro-Trump faction. These reports have been confirmed by an anonymous source within the YR community.

Allegedly his demands were unmet, Wax provided the 2,900-page chat log to Politico, leading to a major scandal and resignations within the organization.

In the October 14 article by Politico, Douglass said in reference to a chat about an obese Indian girlfriend of one of the other YR participants, ‘she just didn’t bathe often.’ The comment was included with many other explicitly anti-semitic and bigoted statements made by other participants in the chat.

Facing bipartisan calls to resign—including from Gov. Phil Scott—Douglass, 26, a mental health counselor and real estate agent, stepped down to protect his family from ensuing threats.

”We just had a baby. Our first. We struggled with fertility for years and we were lucky,” wrote Douglass in a statement issued Friday evening (10/17). “I was on paternity leave as of last week and I was just returning to legislative work when this story broke. So, we’re still trying to put our house back together and catch up on sleep. Yet, I have received some of the most horrific hate one could imagine. Between calling my wife a “wh*re” and others including phrases like, “we wiped you nazi trash out once and we will again you doublechin, no jawlined incel f*ckface”, “Your baby would be better off dead”, “I hope your baby gets r*ped”, “This world is better off without you.”, and “You’re wife is a fat ugly pig and needs to be muzzled like a dog.” Many of these were made by Vermonters. We’ve even heard about an online petition circling to have our baby taken away from us. Just today we were sent nasty items in the mail.”

These kinds of comments towards Douglass are reflected on social media.

In response to a 7 Days News article on Douglass’s resignation posted to Facebook, a Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC) speech-language pathologist on social media targeted Douglass, proposing he be “stripped naked” and have “entrails thrown at him” as punishment.

Lakshmi Joshi Boyle, a speech-language pathologist and supervisor at CVMC’s University of Vermont Medical Center affiliate, posted the comment.

“What a jerk,” writes Boyle. “Any expectation of accountability? His punishment should be to be stripped naked and to have entrails thrown at him as he walks through the street of all 251 zip codes. He shames this great State,” she wrote, garnering six likes and replies decrying the rhetoric.

Boyle, who specializes in geriatric, neurologic, and trauma-related communication disorders, has contributed to professional publications, including an article on speech pathologists’ role in trauma survivor recovery for the Trauma Survivors Network newsletter.

  1. POLITICO is all fake news supremo, when you put garbage in, you get garbage out, Wax is a POS too, what’s his motive, see the democrats never would call another comrade out, so what’s his deal, skeletons in his closet? All this over a “bath” comment?

  2. Correction. Do you mean the JESUITS are taking down this country for the benefit of the Roman empire?????? Comment from Richard Day.

  3. His and other’s comments in this group chat were unacceptable, period. Maybe if his personal hygiene comments had included immigrants as being here “to wipe our a**es” the media wouldn’t have been so loud in their criticism?

  4. Sam Douglass apologized and resigned. Lakshmi Boyle should do the same. Her comments are disgusting.

  5. Any chance Lakshmi Joshi Boyle will be asked by anyone to resign in light of her comments??? We all the know the answer to that. I say she’s welcome to slaughter, gut and butcher the animal of her choice to acquire the needed entrails… I’m sure that would put an end to any enthusiasm for that plan.

  6. The blatant premeditation to conspire to intentionally hurt and destroy Sam Douglass is chilling, disgusting, and sickening. It’s one thing to read or hear about it in a news report, but to see the actual text messages exposes in a profound way the utter evil of the perpetrators of this plot.

What is so sad and horrifying is that these kinds of things are happening all the time in all kinds of circles.

This is why we so desperately need a merciful Savior to deliver us, forgive us, and heal us from our darkness and depravity. He is so gracious to do this when we humble ourselves before Him and repent of our sins.

    • It’s chilling that you don’t find the racist, misogynistic comments by these young Republicans disgusting and sickening. At least I can assume that you’re praying for them to repent.

  7. Who said I don’t, Brian? But that’s not really what the angle of this story was about.

To clarify, I never read what the other YRs specifically said, but only the generalizations about them. And assuming the report of what they said was factual, of course those comments are reprehensible and disgusting.

I was not making any comparison between what Sam Douglass and Gavin Wax did, as if to make Douglass look better in the light of what Wax did, or to say one person is better than the other. Nor do I excuse Sam Douglass’ remarks or those of the other YRs. So please don’t infer that that’s what I did or meant to do. I was commenting on the main topic of this story; the power of the photographs of the text messages affected me in a more visceral and profound way than did the careless and insensitive remarks of Douglass.

That’s why the law has categories which usually deal much more severely with crimes involving willful premeditation than crimes of passion. And as both are 100% wrong and evil, when I read about cases in which there was deliberate plotting and planning to kill someone (physically or verbally), yes, that is more chilling to me.

We’ve all broken God’s laws in word, thought, and deed. Thank God for the cross of Jesus Christ which levels the playing field so that full and complete forgiveness and pardon is granted to both the first-degree and the second-degree murderer if he or she repents.

So, yes, I pray for Gavin Wax to repent. Only God truly knows, but it sounds like Sam Douglass already has. And it matters zero to me of which political party they are a member. Humility transcends any political boundary.

    • Martin, I suggest that you read what the other YRs specifically said. Douglass (and his wife) did, and they said nothing (but did add their own vile and racist comments).

‘See Something, Say Something’ has become a mantra for helping to stop bigotry and racism. Lead by example. Sam and Brianna Douglass saw something, continued to participate in it, added to it, and said nothing…until they got called out (or hurt by perpetrators of a chilling, disgusting, sickening evil plot, as you put it). It still looks like premeditated participation in chats with other bigots to me. Not very Christian of them, not ‘crimes of passion’, not harmless jokes.

It’s quite sad to see so many apologists for the people who casually spewed these vile chats, including our Vice President (just kids joking around, he said). If you see something and don’t say something, even if it’s a joke, you are part of the problem; my grandchildren are being taught this. Hopefully, their generation will be better than ours.

  8. Point taken , Brian.

But please don’t continue to infer that I in any way condone or am making light of the evil things any of the YRs said.

Again, my commenting on the willful conspiracy to destroy a person and his/her career was not to minimize wrong actions of Douglass or the YRs. It was solely to specifically share how the screenshots of Wax’s motives personally affected me as I read the article. Let’s not conflate my describing and sharing my personal emotions while reading the particular angle of a story with winking at or sweeping the harmful words, thoughts, and deeds of the YRs under the rug.
