Law enforcement agencies across Vermont responded to a series of criminal incidents in recent days, ranging from attempted robbery and vandalism to identity theft and voyeurism. The following is a roundup of notable cases under investigation, based on information provided by authorities.
St. Albans woman charged with identity theft in mortgage fraud
Helen Lindsey, 28, of St. Albans, faces charges of identity theft and false pretenses following an investigation into a mortgage fraud scheme. On July 2, Lindsey allegedly submitted forged employment documentation, including a fake signature and contact information, in an effort to secure a loan. She is due to appear in Chittenden County Superior Court on September 11.
Habitual offender cited for attempted assault and robbery in St. J
On July 31, St. Johnsbury Police issued a citation to Shane K. Dimick, 44, of St. Johnsbury, following an investigation into an attempted assault and robbery that occurred late on the evening of July 30 on Western Avenue. Authorities say Dimick threatened a victim with violence unless they handed over personal property. He is also facing a charge as a habitual offender. Dimick is scheduled to appear in Caledonia Superior Court on August 1.

Vandalism at Wardsboro Country Store
Vermont State Police are investigating a case of vandalism reported at the Wardsboro Country Store Sunoco on Main Street in Wardsboro. At 8:50 PM on July 30, surveillance footage showed a male suspect striking and damaging a gas pump screen. The suspect fled in a white Volkswagen Jetta wagon with a kayak rack and a “Vermont Strong” front plate. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Maldonado at 802-722-4600.
Gunfire erupts after dispute in Cornwall
The Vermont State Police are also investigating a shooting incident that occurred around 6:40 PM on July 29 along Vermont Route 125 in Cornwall. Though no one was injured, multiple individuals—who reportedly knew each other—engaged in a verbal and physical confrontation that escalated into an exchange of gunfire. Detectives confirmed that several people discharged weapons. The investigation is ongoing.
Sheldon man charged with voyeurism
On June 12, troopers responded to a report of suspicious behavior at a residence on VT Route 78 in Sheldon. After an investigation, Andrew King, 51, of Sheldon was charged with voyeurism. He is scheduled to appear in Franklin County Superior Court on October 6.
Salisbury woman accused of debit card theft
Troopers responded to Columbus Smith Road in Salisbury on July 31 following a report of debit card theft. Police say Ashley Whitney-Jackson, 39, attempted to withdraw funds using a card belonging to Heidi Lapoint, 44, of Ladson, South Carolina. Whitney-Jackson has been cited to appear in Addison County Superior Court on a date yet to be announced.
