Hank Poitras, AKA ‘Planet Hank,’ the controversial news videographer of Brattleboro police responding to calls and making arrests, was the subject of a home invasion and assault by a person he said Monday was subject of one of his videos.
Julian Lemert, 20, of New York was arrested Saturday morning in Brattleboro after police say he assaulted the resident of a home. According to Brattleboro police, he was treated at a hospital for injuries, jailed, and held without bail. He reportedly has a bail hearing today (Tuesday June 23) in which his lawyers are expected to seek his release.
Poitras is concerned that, if released, Lemert will seek retribution again for Poitras’ May 18 video of the May arrest for assault. In the video, Lemert can be seen asking “Why are you filming? Hmm?” The incident Saturday began shortly after Poitras, asleep at home, heard his dog barking loudly. Recordings below were conducted Monday afternoon by VDC over Facebook Messsenger – the suspect destroyed Poitras’s phone. VDC apologies for the spotty sound quality and editing.
Shocked, Poitras shut the blinds.
Poitras then opened his door and yelled after the man – who responded with a home invasion.
A potentially deadly tussle ensued between the angry rugby playing college student, armed with a knife, and the 43-year-old retired Marine and martial artist.
Able to avoid knife strikes, Poitras then pushed himself off the man. The Iraq War veteran, practiced in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, said “Jiu-jitsu saved my life,” he said. “The training worked exactly how it was supposed to. It allowed me to control the knife hand long enough to escape.”
Police detained the suspect. The incident left Poitra more committed than ever to videoing police encounters with suspected perpetrators – but he plans to be more cautious.

That guy was lucky Planet Hank didn’t have a gun. He would have been justified if he shot that Antifa slug.
How embarrassing for this idiot to engage and then get his ass handed to him. This is typical of a woke Democrat. Real Americans can fight. Come to my house you’ll have the same consequences. He definitely got what he deserved. Next time he may be chewing on lead if he sticks his head to the wrong door.
He deserved to have his neck broken.
Hmmmm Who had a motive to set up such an attack?
The permission structure of the radical left abd their media brethren have given the green light to doing serious violence to anyone who disagrees with their sick agenda.
By the grace of God , Hank is ok, a bit shaken and on the mend from abrasions and bite marks .
I was pleased to see him in good spirits and Apologized for not Bringing Crayons and Tabasco sauce for a Marines nutrition needs .
Leftists , crossing interstate lines with the intent to do harm to citizens in their homes is not acceptable behavior.
The investigation is ongoing, Remember just because your charged with a Crime doesn’t Nessisary mean your Guilty .
The Subject was held without Bail .
Very thankful to hear that Hank is doing well. It’s pathetically sad that our society is in such disarray.
If this Granny, has anything to do with it,……my grandchildren will be continuing their
ju jitsu lessons.
The police don’t have enough officers, period. I live in a rural area and my son-in-law had 2 tours in Afghanistan doing bomb disposal. He has PTSD. He sometimes just takes off without telling anybody where he is going. The last time it happened we called the state police and they said they no longer respond to incidents when there are mental health issues involvedd. They did issue a BOLO. The sheriffs department also issued a BOLO. Many liberal politicians are so anti-police that they chronically underfund law enforcement. I can’t imagine how long it would take them to get to my house in an emergency. If that doesn’t change we all should be ready to become vigilantes if necessary.
If there is legal justification as in the case of imminent deadly threat, it’s not vigilantism, just self-defense. It saves the taxpayers the cost of adjudication, or in the case of a Vermont moonbat prosecutor, plea deal or dismissal.
The old adage, “When seconds count, the police are only minutes away,” is becoming increasingly the norm in rural areas of Vermont. Hank needs to hug his alert dog and give it some extra treats. He also needs to ensure that Mr. Colt’s equalizer is close at hand when his dog starts barking in the middle of the night…
“The police don’t have enough officers” So true. I had drug dealers running up and down to a house at the end of my road. One day they drove their truck into a tree on my property. When you call the cops they tell you they don’t have enough resources to respond. But somehow they are able to take State Police officers of their normal beat and put them in downtown Burlington. But hey now that the mayor says Burlington is back, maybe those troopers can go back to patrolling rural areas.
