A two-vehicle crash on I-89 northbound in Fairfield resulted in minor damage but no injuries on the night of March 29.
According to the Vermont State Police, troopers at 10:27 PM received reports of a pickup truck colliding with the rear of a school bus. The crash occurred near Exit 19 under clear and dry road conditions with light traffic.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 31-year-old Jacob Boulerice of Swanton, was traveling north when he experienced a suspected medical event. As a result, his 2014 Ram 1500 accelerated and struck the rear bumper of a 2020 Freightliner school bus operated by 70-year-old Paul Sheppard, also of Swanton.
Fortunately, a passenger in Boulerice’s vehicle was able to assist in regaining control, bringing the truck to a stop off the right side of the highway.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and no injuries were reported among the bus passengers. The bus remained operational and was able to leave the scene under its own power.
The Vermont State Police were assisted at the scene by the St. Albans Town Fire Department and Stone’s Towing. The incident remains under investigation.
Two drivers cited for speeding over 100 MPH – Two Vermont men were cited for negligent operation after being caught traveling at excessive speeds on Interstate 89 South on the evening of March 29.
At about 6:25 p.m., a trooper from the Williston Barracks was monitoring traffic in Milton when he saw two vehicles traveling south at a high rate of speed. The vehicles, which appeared to be driving together, were clocked at 104 mph while overtaking other motorists.
The trooper initiated a traffic stop on both vehicles and identified the drivers as Norman Mack, 30, of Shelburne, and Connor Chevalier, 21, of Swanton. Both drivers were cited for speeding on the Interstate. The violation carries a penalty of two points on their driving records and a waiver fine of $568.
In addition to the traffic violations, Mack and Chevalier were cited for negligent operation and have been ordered to appear before the Chittenden County Superior Court on May 8.
Dead motorists identified- State Police have identified the two people found dead in a parked vehicle along Route 14 in Brookfield as 59-year-old Lynn Gilman and 63-year-old Burton Richardson, both of Rochester.
Authorities discovered the grey Hyundai Elantra on the shoulder of the roadway near Brown Drive around 9:25 PM on February 14. Responding officers found Gilman in the driver’s seat and Richardson in the front passenger seat, both unresponsive. Barre Town Rescue attempted medical intervention but pronounced both deceased at the scene.
