RANDOLPH – A Braintree woman is facing an embezzlement charge after Vermont State Police say an investigation showed she appears to have diverted at least $6,200 from an Orange County business.

Cindy L. Mears, 49, is due in Vermont Superior Court in Chelsea on Jan. 21 on criminal charges of embezzlement, petty larceny and fraudulent use of a credit card, state police said.

Sgt. Max Trenosky said AADCO Medical of Randolph contacted state police in Royalton about missing funds on Oct. 31.  AADCO Medical is a manufacturer and supplier of medical imaging equipment and radiology protection.

A state police review of financial records in recent weeks revealed that during the summer a now former employee embezzled money by using a company credit card to make unauthorized purchases between July and September.

The VSP investigation identified the suspect as Mears, who was hired by the company as an administrative assistant in May and terminated from the company in October, Trenosky said.

The investigation is ongoing, but leads have uncovered losses of about $6,200, he said.

The state is still gathering evidence at various locations within Vermont and in the state of New Hampshire where some transactions occurred, Trenosky said.

Mears was arrested and processed at the state police barracks in Royalton on Thursday, Trenosky said.  She was released with a citation to appear for her court arraignment in January.
