The entry of the nuclear-powered Navy submarine USS Vermont into a South Korea port has prompted the sister of North Korea dictator to threaten South Korea with military action, AP reported this week.

The Vermont, nicknamed “Big Sugar,” is a Virginia-class fast-attack ‘hunter-killer’ nuclear submarine. Construction began in 2014. She was christened in 2018 at her shipyard, Electric Boat in Groton, CT. Crew members routinely visit the State House and march in July 4 parades in Montpelier.

Burlington seeks paid election volunteers – Are you interested in volunteering at Burlington’s polls this coming General Election, Tuesday, November 5, 2024? Burlington’s Board for Registration of Voters (BRV) is seeking volunteers.

The BRV is responsible for maintaining the checklist of active, registered voters in Burlington. A volunteer is stationed at each polling place on Election Day at a table marked “Voter Help.” Voters come to resolve issues with their registration before they can cast a ballot and answer questions about challenge letters.

The BRV needs volunteers to support the BRV member at each polling place, helping to fill out forms, looking up a voter’s ward and district, and managing the line that can form at the Voter Help table when it’s busy. This is a paid volunteer opportunity through the City of Burlington.

Interested? Call or email Grace Grundhauser, Chair of the BRV at ggrundhauser@burlingtonvt.org or (802) 747-8577. A volunteer orientation will be held before the election on a date TBD the week prior.

Info about the BRV is available here.
