Suspect has 15 convictions, 12 assault charges – and just wants to go to prison

Burlington police were unable to respond to a breaking and entering at 4 AM this morning because there were no officers available, a BPD press statement issued at noon today said.

At about 4 AM, BPD dispatchers received a report that a male broke into an empty apartment on the 100 Block on Pine Street.

The male was later identified as Mark Flanders, 43, of Burlington. Due to staffing shortage, there were no officers available at the time of the call.

Of the two officers assigned to the midnight patrol shift, one officer was with a woman arrested on a warrant who was taken to the hospital for a pre-existing condition, and the other was with a juvenile runaway from Bennington who had crashed a stolen vehicle in Burlington and was being evaluated for injuries from the crash while the officer waited for the Vermont Department of Children and Families to take custody of the juvenile.

A short time later, a BPD officer responded with UVM Police and located Flanders. Flanders was taken into custody, transported back to the PD and released with a flash cite. Flanders made statements that he wanted to go to the Northwest State Correctional Facility and that he would commit further crimes so he could go to jail.

A review of Flanders’ Vermont criminal history shows, he has 8 failures to appear, 18 misdemeanor charges with 15 convictions, and 12 assaultive crime charges with 8 convictions.

  1. Just as the Commiecrats wanted. Destroy, create chaos and terror, and then instill full control.

And THESE fools in this tiny, insignificant state believe they shall be in the forefront of those wielding authority over the peons……

You are each truly useful idiots. And massive ones at that.

Yeah Dame, Right on Scott – Trump is the problem.

  2. “Reimagine the police “……but not the criminals !!
The total failure and insanity of the progressive prosecution movement as explained by Kamala Harris, the oh so eloquent luminaria of human psychology and adopted by the Vermont progressives which has destroyed Burlington over a short few years of application .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OWiRuJgtVE

  3. Burlington residents deserve what they get ! Keep voting for Progressives and Democrats, Burlington can claim being the San Francisco of the Northeast.

    • If there have to be crime victims in Burlington, please let them all be progressive voters who agree with our State’s Attorney that incarceration is obsolete…

  4. Isn’t it a simple procedure to extradite a criminal that wants to go to prison (what a reality that is)? He knew he was mentally sick. Yet got released.
    Quoting:
“Flanders was taken into custody, transported back to the PD and released with a flash cite. Flanders made statements that he wanted to go to the Northwest State Correctional Facility and that he would commit further crimes so he could go to jail”

It’s about a 4 hour flight to Mexico and a prison, he gets what he wants, but didn’t say where.

Reality cost for a private airplane to transport:
I had an elderly (90) uncle in a hospital in Twin City GA. He had an accident, stubbing his toe on a concrete crack., taking a tumble, broke something. He wanted to return to his home and recuperate. So the family booked a private airplane and he flew into Lebanon NH. Then got a ride to a family’s house, 60 miles further. The cost was $10K. He said that’s the way to travel, 3 hours and home.

Couldn’t cost much more to fly a criminal to Mexico. Cheaper than in a VT prison. Maybe Vermont should have shuttle flights to Mexico.

  5. when you get to mexico just kick them out with a parachute/// no need to get permission to land///

  6. Just another outstanding citizen roaming the streets of Burlington, this fine citizen fits right in the Burlington cesspool, crime, drugs, and homelessness all running rampant
due to the progressives running the city, this gaggle of fools is running it right into the ground……………………….pretty pathetic !!

  7. It is sad but many in the Queen City are getting fire arms for protection. If this B&E was violent, people would be dead and the BPD still wouldn’t be there. The sadder part is citizens are buying guns, but have limited to no training on how to use a gun. I highly recommend training if you are going to buy a gun. It is apparent the City Hall isn’t going to fix the low numbers of Police, so the response time will often be 30 – 45 minutes. A lot can happen in 45 minutes ! But the Progressive’s don’t think we need police. The liberals are more interested in taxing citizens before they will give up anything. It’s a P & D City Hall, so don’t expect a change anytime soon.

    • Try not to be so sad that people are taking the initiative to help protect themselves, their loved ones, or maybe even a random stranger from a violent attack. Predatory humans are a fact of life, and they have been emboldened by leftist law enforcement policies. It’s called: refusing to be a victim. Remember, a firearm does not have to be displayed to prevent an attack, sometimes only hinted at. If necessary to display, it doesn’t have to be pointed. If it needs to be pointed to get your intention across, it doesn’t have to be chambered or ready to fire. A next step can be that unmistakable metallic sound of a slide being racked or a pump shotgun action working. A warning shot is the next option if the message is not being received….lots of options that dont involve bodily injury. There is nothing “sad” about having a tool that can prevent human suffering.

    • At my finger tips in my vehicle I have a aerosol can of SPECTRACIDE WASP & HORNET KILLER. it emits a stream of solid spray over 30 feet, easily procured and legal. Spray that into the face of a criminal that’s going to attack you, they have something else to think of. It can also be carried on the body. Just have proof of purchase. It’s not a weapon, use it as a protectorate as you would a Hornet. I also have a very small derringer BOND ARMS (TX) .45 over and 410 under 3″ barrel (interchange at will) . Fits into the palm of the hand. They have some 30 diff barrels for various calipers. The 410 may not do much harm, but the noise makes them think.

Thing of the matter is, make them hesitant to want to sue you when they are the pursuer. I suggest getting and having the “bug spray”. Might save your life.

  8. People talk about Burlingtonians getting what they vote for. This is true but there are also 11,800 UVM students, along with Champlain, that vote for these loons. As long as that ridiculous voting law is in place I fear things will remain the same.

    • Homeowners and business operators…people with actual skin in the game are now a minority in Burlington. The moonbats are in charge over a city where a majority of the population constitute deadbeats, subsidized renters, vagrants and transient students with no long-term skin in the game. This is not a socially or economically sustainable situation. Does anyone remember the economic mess created by the last Progressive Mayor…Bob Kiss? Get ready for a repeat performance by the female version. Burlington Progressives live in a world of economic and social fantasy and are not rooted in the realities of human behavior or guided by the concept of personal responsibility.
