A Newport woman is facing multiple felony charges, including second-degree murder, following a fatal incident early Wednesday morning in Brownington, according to the Vermont State Police.

Ariana Rodger, 43, was taken into custody late March 18 in connection with the death of a man found at a residence on Willoughby Lake Road. She has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree aggravated domestic assault, and violation of conditions of release.

Rodger was ordered held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Newport.

Police have not yet released the identity of the victim. Authorities said the name will be made public following an autopsy expected to take place Thursday at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington.

The investigation began at about 2 a.m. Wednesday when authorities received a report of a deceased man at the Brownington property. First responders arriving on scene located the man dead inside the residence.

Preliminary findings indicate the death resulted from a dispute among individuals who were known to each other.

The case remains under active investigation by members of the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Search Team, Field Force Division and Victim Services Unit.

Authorities said a probable cause affidavit will be filed with the court and made public following Rodger’s arraignment.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact the Vermont State Police Derby Barracks at 802-334-8881 or submit an anonymous tip online.

State police said additional details will be released as the investigation continues.
