New FBI report casts doubt on depiction of Border Patrol agent shooter as illegal immigrant

There is now conflicting information on whether Felix Bauckholt, who shot and killed a Border Patrol agent Monday in Coventry–and then was himself shot and killed, was an illegal immigrant, or had just overstayed his visa, or had an up-to-date visa.

In a press conference yesterday Governor Scott called out some members of the press for inaccurate reporting on the shooting of the Border Patrol Agent.

“I ask that all of you as members of the press do your part and only report on the facts, not based on speculation assumptions or something some other media source has already misreported. That will be very helpful,” said Governor Scott.

Since, members of his administration have criticized VDC’s coverage of the crime.

An earlier VDC report stated that the slain immigrant was in the United States illegally. This was based on earlier reports from reputable news organizations quoting law enforcement sources. A news story in Wednesday’s VDC includes information from the FBI stating that Felix Bauckholt was a German national present in the U.S. on an up-to-date visa – seeming to show that VDC’s original story was inaccurate regarding Bauckholt’s immigration status.

Internet searches show a man with the same name as a Freiburg, Germany native who studied computer software and mathematics in Canada, and worked in a related profession in New York City. There was no personal contact information, and attempts to reach him at his work address were unsuccessful. It is not clear whether this is the same man who authorities say shot and killed the Border Patrol agent in Coventry Monday.

VDC will update as information becomes available.

  1. It may well be that the shooter wasn’t an illegal and I’d imagine that even if he had overstayed his visa, he wouldn’t have drawn the attention of the Border Patrol. The truth is far more likely to be related to why he was in the US in the first place, the identity of his accomplice in the car who took pains to hide her face at the hotel with a Covid mask and why he had gun(s) on him, which of course ordinary tourists wouldn’t have. And obviously someone who was innocent of illicit doings wouldn’t have responded to being stopped by the Border Patrol this way. I know I have encountered Border Patrol activity on 91 in the past and shooting the agent who stopped at my car to “chat” would never have crossed my mind!

  2. When leadership and authorities have to control the narrative by being the fact checkers and the “official” authors of the record, we are going to be even more highly suspicious. What was this guy was doing with a loaded gun, near the border, and seemingly trigger happy. If he was all legit and legal, why the need to fire a fatal shot into the officer? Was he an asset belonging to 5 Eyes or a radicalized social justice community activist? Chances are they all ready know all about him and his information scrubbed and homogenized for control purposes. They know the lightening speed prowess and accuracy of internet slueths.

    • But that doesn’t seem to be the case here. Seems like the two people with the same name were the cause of all of this confusion. At the moment it doesn’t seem like anyone in the vehicle was in any way in the country illegally.

  3. Perhaps it is time for VSP, FBI and other law enforcement agencies to have the Burlington mayor write and deliver their press releases. That will no doubt insure that everything is the report is absolutely accurate and doesn’t hurt the perpetrator’s feelings. After all, the law breakers really just need a little help.

  4. If the authorities had been casing these people for 3 days prior, there’s obviously a LOT more to this story than the citizens are allowed to know about. Nothing to see here folks.

  5. The media like everyone else needs to wait for the investigation to be completed. Instead of guessing or getting answers from here say.

    • Since WHEN? Ever hear of the freedom of information act, public record requests, public police logs, a FREE press, or a FREE society such as the United States?

No, we are NOT beholden to the government —- the government is beholden to us!!!!!!!!!!

Try a read of that US Constitution & VT Constitution – a government accountable TO the people comprised OF, BY, and FOR the PEOPLE.

      Novel concept to socialists, huh?

WE rule this nation. The representatives serve US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Yup. A lot more to this story. Legal, illegal, doesn’t even matter at this point. Why did they have guns and were so quick to use them??? Very fishy.

  7. ““I ask that all of you as members of the press do your part and only report on the facts, not based on speculation assumptions or something some other media source has already misreported. That will be very helpful,” said Governor Scott.””
Hmmmm, too bad Scott didn’t issue the same admonition during the covid scamdemic, instead he was complicit in parroting the “official approved” albeit false narrative…nuff said!
