Moving from Connecticut to Brattleboro, VT, decades ago, my husband and I enjoyed living in this rural area where our children thrived. I have worked in the field of education with students of all ages, including owning and operating a nursery school and later, retiring as a special educator from the local high school.
In my experience, I learned it’s important for parents to participate in and have access to their children’s curriculum and daily activities. I believe school choice and school vouchers are necessary options and will work to ensure that parents regain and maintain oversight of their children’s education.
Critical Race Theory, /Diversity/Equity/Inclusion has no place in school instruction. The truth of our country’s heritage and history that includes instruction of our Constitution needs to be included. We must know our rights as citizens to whom “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” is given.
We must end the “sanctuary state” status. Law and order need to be enforced as protections for citizens. This includes supporting local law enforcement and federal agencies committed to apprehending immigrants who entered the United States illegally.
The Clean Heat Standard (Act 18) now in development by state regulators is not affordable nor doable. Act 18 aims to reduce Vermont’s reliance on fossil fuels for heating and hot water. It became law in May 2023. Vermonters have deep concerns regarding what is being forced upon them without fair representation.
Rob Roper, a freelance writer with 20 years’ experience in Vermont politics, has described the process in detail, though there are yet many unknowns. To be updated, go to Rob Roper’s reports: “Behind the Lines” on Facebook, TwitterX, and YouTube.
In an attempt to clarify what still remains unclear, here are some bullet points regarding Act 18:
* Clean Heat Standard is a system requiring importers/sellers of heating oil, kerosene, propane, natural gas and coal to obtain carbon credits
*Carbon credits are given to oil companies as the fuel they sell are ultimately burned
*Dealers would apply these credits to a clean heat measure, for example, installing heat pumps themselves or having Efficiency VT, for example, do weatherizing, and so forth.
*There are too many unknowns about the responsibility and cost of keeping track of steps all along the path to achieve the goal of the Clean Heat Standard …who, what, where, when, transfer of credits, many new jobs that need to be generated by the process to oversee, taxes to include, etc.
*The cost of the clean heat measures necessary to meet reduction standards set up by the Global Warming Solutions Act will cost about $3.3 billion to meet the 2030 target and about $10 billion for the 2050 target.
*Ultimately, all costs generated by this process will be passed along to consumers.
***You have opportunity to say “NO” right now to the Clean Heat Standard by going to affordableheat.org
There are many issues that are causing great concern among Vermonters, as I am hearing from most of the people to whom I speak in my Brattleboro District 7. I encourage all to spread the word, raise questions, and speak out. This is a critical time for all of us here in Vermont.

Great article! I absolutely agree! Thank you!
Good luck Susan, but sorry to say you have a snowball’s chance in hell of being elected in woke Brattleboro.

“*Ultimately, all costs generated by this process will be passed along to consumers.” Well doggies! The Dickens you say !
Susan, good luck as you have the same feeling that most Vermonters have, there is a decay in our education system it has become an indoctrination cesspool that you have seen firsthand, being that you live in Brattleboro all your common sense ideas
you are on an uphill climb !!
Good luck
Susan Murray, Vermont needs you and others like you to serve in the legislature, but because Vermont is mainly populated by ignorant liberals these days, putting that R next to your name is an electoral death knell. Suggest in the future you run as an Independent.
Let me add a voice of optimism. Susan is in West Brattleboro, a rural and more conservative district where she has received a lot of support. Prop taxes and S.5 loom large in voters minds. Her opponent is Kornheiser, who proposed that school boards should ignore the voters after 3 budget defeats, and proposed taxing “unrealized gains” on assets rather than income, a pandora’s box that all but the most progressive Democrats do not support. Thank you for stepping up Susan! Good luck down the home stretch!
Thank you Susan. Unfortunately radical Progressives are destroying our beautiful state. Their lack of awareness and absence of common sense hurts the very people they claim to be helping. Their policies simply don’t work and they are too arrogant to admit it. The rest of us, Republicans, Democrats and Independents must unite to save Vermont.
Kudeos to Steve!
Wish you well Ms Murray. One thing I’ve been pushing and mentioned numerous times that should help VT greatly in legislative balance. 14 counties should have the max of 2 Senators per. No more majority in the Burlington and Montpelier county areas. Even the playing field for all counties. I’ve corresponded with Joe .Benning of Lyndon (R). He similarly agrees. but mentioned 3 per. Would accomplish the same perhaps, but we don’t need that many in the Senate. Number of Representatives are a function of population. Hope many running and in the Senate get on board. Don’t expect Dems would agree, they want a majority. We see the corruption that has existed for years.
I’m in Windham County, Townshend. Brattleboro is loaded with corrupt legislators. One in particular is Leslie Goldman (3 District). Looking at her voting record, she’s a YES GIRL. Every piece of legislation she voted yes on: taxes, regulations salary, you name it. Her position is in the Government records. She’s real bad. Remember when she ran for the first time, she said she was going to veto all legislation that Gov Scott introduced.
Let the pendulum swing back to normalcy. Thanks
14 counties, 28 senators and the Lt. Governor votes on a tie for the win. We don’t need 3 per county we need two. It’s far and it should be done. The senate is supposed to be the reasonable higher chamber to sort out all the craziness from the house. Of course, the craziness all comes from the virtue signaling control freak progressives that never saw a tax and folly they didn’t like. The first mission is to cancel the super majority destroying Vermont. Then start to clean up the mess they have made. Remember, trying to blame Vermont destruction on conservatives is BS, they haven’t been in state leadership for decades. Democrats allowed progressives to steel their party and push then to the intolerable left of left. Only the voters can correct this insanity. It’s time to step up and save your state. TAKE VERMONT BACK FROM THE OVERLORD NANNY STATE CARPETBAGGERS! We are free Americans and can’t be ruled by anyone if we so please. Just look at Burlington and the rot is spreading. Protect your children and grandchildren’s future from the indoctrination centers, the public schools. Step up or be rolled over and taxed out of existence, the choice is yours. Enough is enough!!!!
Re: “I’m in Windham County, Townshend. Brattleboro is loaded with corrupt legislators. One in particular is Leslie Goldman (3 District).”
For those Windham County District 3 voters out there, please consider Casey Cota (I) and Ryan Coyne (R) as your choices to represent you in Montpelier. And please pass this recommendation on to your neighbors. Our local Front Porch Forum, for example, has consistently censored commentary critical of Leslie Goldman’s policies, and getting the word out has not been easy.
