Burlington picks Progressive Mulvaney-Stanak for mayor

by Guy Page

Progressive Emma Mulvaney-Stanak defeated Democratic Joan Shannon Tuesday in the Burlington race for mayor.

She succeeds Democratic Miro Weinberger.

“Campaigns are so much bigger than one person. Over 300 volunteers worked together toward a shared vision for our community and spent countless hours talking to voters. We received over 1,000 donations,” she said shortly after declaring victory.

Mulvaney-Stanak, however, will not have a Progressive-controlled City Council to support her. Democrats maintained a one-seat hold over the balance of power in Tuesday’s elections.

Mulvaney-Stanak has said she will resign her seat as a Burlington representative to the Vermont House.

Burlington also passed its school budget with 71% in favor.

  1. If you want the definition of irony here it is:

The Burlington mayoral winner held her victory party in the heart of the unsuccessful candidate’s home ward. (Zero Gravity)

The defeated Shannon meanwhile held her party outside of her own ward, at Halvorson’s restaurant.

Why would Shannon hold her party in what would have been the pinnacle of her political career outside of the ward she’s represented on the council for two decades?

And why did the eventual winner schedule her party to be held in her opponent’s home ward rather than in her own ward?

Was any of this by design? Will we ever know?

    • An entrenched incumbent politician had all the money, big-name backers, union endorsements and connections.

Yet the dark horse swept to a shocking win, taking the mayoral seat by six full points.

In fact, it was such a drubbing that ranked-choice voting was never an issue.

To add insult to injury, the winner held her boozy victory party in the district that the defeated candidate has represented on the council for two decades.

The winner racked up huge numbers with the pro-Palestinian leftists who remained outraged with the loser for recently refusing to admonish Israel for invading Gaza.

  2. Like a junkie or alcoholic, Burlington has yet to hit bottom and admit it has a problem. We know with certainty now that the majority of voters there are either renters, students, lifetime welfare leaches, drag queens, junkies, criminal convicts, deadbeats or a combination of all. Joan Shannon was the last hope for a revival from the city being taken over by the moral, ethical and economic failures of progressivism. Decent people should pledge to never again visit it or spend another nickel there. Business owners should look for retail space opportunities in the surrounding communities that have not surrendered themselves to the marxist anarchy. Burlington police should quit en-masse, as it is obvious that they are not appreciated by a majority of the population, and there are better opportunities nearby, where they will be appreciated and better paid. RIP Burlington.

    • I don’t live in Burlington, instead near Burlington’s Airport.

An awful sad day for Burlington has arrived and I certainly agree with your definition of Many city “residents “.

    • Well said.. I hate that city and rarely went there. Now there’s no way I’ll go for any reason. No doubt Burlington will further embarrass itself and only be a destination for drug addicts, dealers, street bums and wokies.. Good riddance!

  3. They shall reap what they have sown. Perhaps that crime statistic will break 100% sooner than summer. The festival season will be a feeding frenzy for the criminals. Pride goeth before the fall indeed.

  4. Shocked that Shannon lost. I guess Burlington is about to see how low it can go.

  5. Burlington is now fully occupied by cultural Marxists. Bored , guilt ridden, self loathing elitists in search of some sense of self worth. Generally bitter, wanting to appear smarter, higher intellectually and with a higher moral plane than all others. People of high ideals but having no principles. The worst kind. Citizens and visitors would be well advised to stay out of the City (crime, mayhem, safety, and the general “tar and feathering” they should expect from the Progressive Mob)

    • The city is on fire and the citizens call an arsonist to help them. This is when it gets scary, the voters don’t seem to recognize their city is in a crisis or why its in a crisis. I’ll bet that the rest of VT ends up having to help pay for their foolishness.

  6. Well, let’s see just how the cesspool known as Burlington will become with a progressive in charge, keep an eye on the new policies coming your way, I guess home owners in Burlington haven’t hit rock bottom yet, but they will !!

    • The homeowners and business operators…people with actual skin in the game are now a minority in Burlington. The moonbats are in charge over a city where a majority of the population constitute deadbeats, subsidized renters, vagrants and transient students with no long-term skin in the game. This is not a socially or economically sustainable situation. Does anyone remember the economic mess created by the last Progressive Mayor…Bob Kiss? Get ready for a repeat performance by the female version. Progressives live in a world of economic and social fantasy and are not rooted in the realities of human behavior or guided by the concept of personal responsibility.

  7. Just a note that Weinberger and Shannon are Democrat politicians not necessarily democratic.

  8. Solution: Take away the vote from UVM students. They should vote in their hometown. Only permanent Vermont residents get to vote in Vermont and make decisions that affect them, not outsiders. Do you want Texans voting in Vermont elections? Or Mississippians? Or Arkansawyers? We stop the college vote and the democrats will disappear.

    • You are spot on. Regrettably, This was the “genius” of Bernie Sanders – rather than the States you reference, I’m willing to bet these out of state students hail from the Progressive enclaves across the Northeast (Manhattan, Massachusetts, areas of Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, etc) – UVM is a beacon of Progressivism (especially when daddy/mommy is paying the ridiculous out of state tuition or they get some ridiculous student loan they have no intention of paying back)… Not sure how you put that genie back in the bottle/

    • AMEN! They get to ruin our city then leave and not suffer the long term problems they voted in. How do we change this?

    • ,Do you want Texans voting in Vermont elections? Or Mississippians? Or Arkansawyers? Not that you would know. but there are probably three dozen people from those states that could get into Vermont colleges.

“They should vote in their hometown” Since you also don’t know, they spend 8 months a year in Vermont and pay way more in taxes than you do.

    • Students live and work here for most of the year, some for the entirety of four or more years. Wouldn’t denying their right to vote here be taxation without representation, Skippy?

  9. Is her mom (Joelen Mulvaney of Barre city) still lying about being a Vietnam Gold Star Widow? See for yourself in her “testimonial” about some guy named “Will Miller” at https://www.willmiller.org/testimonials/willmiller2.html in which Emma’s mom claims;
    “Joelen Mulvaney
    Barre, Vermont
    January 24, 2005

    Dearest Brother Will;

Just to let you know how much your advice and counsel has helped me over the years. I know whenever I call on you I will find some ready positive and supportive response. When we first talked, you may remember, I was asking for your feedback about walking in the Barre Veteran’s Day Parade as a Viet Nam Vet widow. You were so kind and understanding, it gave me the courage I needed to “come out” as an anti-war war widow.

My husband’s caskette flag has been to many demonstrations and presentations with me. When it became woefully unkempt after so much use, I was honored to have Louie Pulver and Jim Bergenron, two Army Veterans refold it for me. Everytime I hold the flag in my arms I think of you and all the other Viet Nam veterans who suffer as a result of surviving the war and those who didn’t.

I am so happy to know you and love you dearly for who you are and what you do.

    With great love and affection,

    Joelen Mulvaney
    Barre ”

Just in case you have forgotten; Progs Lie (see above), Progs steal(see Dave Zuckerman and the self righteous brothers fraudulent travel claims, it’s just the way they are.

    • I can attest from a number of Barre City Council meetings, Joelen is a seasoned grifter, trained and experienced in the non-profiter sector, and a champion (bully) of community causes that benefit a few, certainly not all. The fruit does not fall far from this tree. Big money to be made from another’s misery – they built an entire generation, two or three around it, and live very comfortably for their efforts at the expense of others. Good times!

  10. Burlington has completed circling the drain and is in the sewer pipes heading to Lake Champlain! Enjoy!

  11. Well, Miro Weinberger pulled the drain plug and and is leaving, and now the citizens of Burlington have chosen a replacement based on pronouns and gender identification; not abilities. Hey people, can you hear the gurgle of the sludge? Good luck with your ‘wokeness.’ I’m very glad I don’t live there, and my kids are very glad they moved away. And we don’t plan to visit anytime soon…

  12. The irony – she identifies as a ‘Progressive’ but she breeds.
Trying to imagine the screwed up world she’ll be leaving her seed.

    • How is that ironic? Statistics PROVE that no one gets laid less than Conservatives.

    • Chris, not sure where your statistics come from. Most conservatives that I know keep their sex life somewhat private…in the closet, if you will. Contrast that with liberals who seem to want every detail of their sexuality and gender to be everyone’s business, and have parades and multiple holidays throughout the year proclaiming their various proclivities.

  13. Just what Vermont needs, another radical progressive, socialist (communist) mayor. Everything they touch turns to crap! Pathetic!
