Tensions flared in Burlington’s City Hall Park on the afternoon of June 17th, as officers from the local police department responded to a call regarding an active arrest warrant. The target of their operation was Alex Morits, a 20-year-old resident of Richmond.

Upon arriving at the scene around 5:15 pm, the officers wasted no time in attempting to apprehend Morits. However, their efforts were met with resistance as Morits attempted to flee, leading to a physical altercation as the officers grabbed hold of him.

As the struggle unfolded, a large and aggressive crowd began to gather, adding to the volatility of the situation. Among the onlookers was 43-year-old Jeramie Shadle of South Burlington, who began shouting at the officers, further escalating the tension.

Despite the chaos, the officers managed to gain control over Morits, but their attention was soon diverted by another disturbance within the crowd. Jenna Munson, a 27-year-old woman from Essex, threatened to strike the officers, prompting them to issue commands for her to back away and create space.

Munson, however, defied the officers’ orders and pushed one of them, leading to her immediate arrest. Shadle, undeterred by the unfolding events, attempted to physically assault the officers, resulting in his own arrest as well.

The situation took a further turn when Joseph Hackett, a 36-year-old Burlington resident, inserted himself between an officer and the arrestee, impeding the officers’ ability to carry out their duties. With limited resources at the time, the officers were forced to let Hackett go, but not before noting his involvement for future action.

True to their word, the following day, on June 18th, officers located Hackett and took him into custody for impeding public officers, adding another layer to the already complex incident.

As the dust settled, the Burlington Police Department found itself faced with a trio of arrests, each carrying their own criminal histories that painted a concerning picture of the individuals involved.

Munson’s record included a prior charge for simple assault, while Shadle’s extensive rap sheet spanned numerous offenses, including violations of court orders, felony charges, assaultive crimes, and violations of probation or parole.

Hackett’s criminal history was equally troubling, with failures to appear, violations of court orders, felony convictions, assaultive crimes, and violations of probation or parole littering his record.

The events of those two days served as a stark reminder of the challenges law enforcement officers face daily, as they navigate the delicate balance between maintaining public order and upholding the rule of law, often in the face of volatile situations and individuals with checkered pasts.

  1. Welcome to another one of our fine Democrat run cities folks…With these libs in charge it’s only gonna get worse.

  2. Perhaps the mayor, if not to busy eating a free meal, could find time to support the folks in blue.

    • Don’t. Forget who the sa is all charges have probably been dropped already

  3. City Hall Park, is a gathering place for the Homeless, Drunks, and Drug users all in walking distance of the steps of ” City Hall ” and the progressive stronghold on all the city residence

Burlington has become a cesspool, like anyone would want to visit, travelers coming down Main Street pass the destroyed Memorial Auditorium what a shame, and then cross the ” Black Lives Matters ” painted in the road just before City Hall, now there is something to be proud of, and then be careful of the crack heads sitting/sleeping or begging for handouts on the corner Main & Church………Welcome to Burlington !!

Wake up people, the gaggle of fools perched within city hall are your servants, are they doing what you pay taxes for…………………….I think not.

  4. People will do anything to get a free meal at City Hall. Just trying to emulate the Mayor.

  5. stop bashing the queen of the queen city/// she needs to eat too and she looks like she has not missed a meal//// just another day at the vermont zoo////////

  6. All of the dirtbags involved in this incident seem to have addresses outside of Burlington, and feel welcome to hang out in the park and make trouble. When Burlington dumped money into renovating and installing a bathroom in the park in the post-George Floyd era, did they really think it was going to be utilized mainly by respectable and considerate citizens? Now the new mayor is welcoming and accommodating lakeside “campers” and the plans are being laid for putting in a “safe injection facility”. Is there any doubt that it will attract even more antisocial vagrants? Isn’t socialism wonderful and enlightening? The majority of Burlington voters own this now.

    • Have no fear, It’s almost parade season. Bernie, Pete and what’s her name congressperson will return from the other swamp, all smiles followed by their flying monkey entourage of Bernie Bros who still haven’t realized that Bernie got the mine, and they got the shaft.

The Queen (mayor) will be followed by her royal court of meal servers and other devotees who are confused about gender, the
LGBQRP#### crowd and the sky is falling climate cult. There will be a DEI luncheon but not everyone will be included in the festivities.

There will be a quick stop by the newly installed safe injection site
where the police will not be allowed. There will be calls for donations because we all know that politicians are hard workers, and the pay is so low that most have a hard time putting food on the table at any of their 3 homes.

  7. If you think about it, getting rid of all law enforcement in Burlington would be a wonderful idea because the criminals will stay there for good reason. Let them have it. I don’t know by what means the politicians get in and out of their offices, but who cares once the cops are gone… we just need to eliminate private security also so as to make things perfectly equitable among the residents and the commissars.

Defund all security, including alarm systems in all their homes, b/c that would be cheating to alert anyone that some awesome comrade might be breaking in when all they need is some bread.

  8. Good grief Citizens. How much more of this do you need to witness to realize Burlington is lost to the Progressive mob? Stop patronizing this city and allow it to slip into the dystopian world its city residents voted for. These fine police officers should call it a day and move on to municipalities that welcome their honorable efforts. Moreover, your own safety depends on it.

  9. I haven’t been to burlington in over 10 years and I live only 20 minutes away. I probably will never go there to shop or do any business there ever again because this liberal insanity is not going away, it’s only gotten exponentially worse over the last 30 years.

  10. What took place in Queens NY the other day where the citizens detained the perp, is where this may end up in alphabet soup city.
    Repeat criminal elements pushing cops?
    They’re asking for it ….
