The #4 Mid-Vermont Christian School Eagles (MVCS) girls basketball team made it past #5 Williamstown Blue Devils Friday evening in the girls’ high school quarterfinals as they hosted the game on their home court in Quechee.
Mid-Vermont will play the #1 seeded team from Richford tonight at 5:30 in Barre.
The sometimes modestly filled stands were near capacity as the crowd from Williamstown rolled in to support their girls. The David and Goliath story that has been following the MVCS Eagles as they’ve made international news for going up against the state of Vermont in court was reversed on the court with the Eagles roster and front court having a considerable size advantage over the Blue Devils.
Both teams came out strong in the first quarter trading runs with the Eagles finishing the period ahead by only a couple points. However the defensive pressure and size of the Eagles was too much for the girls from Williamstown as they held them to just one point in the second quarter, heading into the half leading 19-12.
Coming out for the second half the crowd anticipated a push by the Blue Devils but it would not come. The Eagles heady back court play from no. 20 Rebekah Roberts and no. 13 Myranda Goodwin set the tone with Eagles front court juggernaut no. 34 Lydia Dickey controlling play in the paint.
The Eagles active help defense swarmed the Blue Devils who tried to respond with a full court press that routinely was picked apart for easy layups. The Blue Devil fans rallied their girls for one final push in the fourth quarter but it would not be enough as the Eagles pulled away securing a 46-29 win in front of their home crowd.

MVCS plays knowing that God is on their side, and so was the law recently. So sad that many of their athletes were denied participation for a time because of prior decisions made by those who have a problem with reality-based sex-segregated sports. Best wishes for your game this evening, ladies.
AMEN!!!
Congrats Mid Vermont girls! Hope you win the championship!
