I am a Vermont Democrat working with Republican Candidate Steven Heffernan to defeat Senator Chris Bray.  Steven is one-quarter of the help I need to see the Clean Heat Standard (CHS) stored on a floppy disk when Governor Scott vetoes it next May.

The math  is this clear to me: Last year seven Republican and three Democratic Senators voted to sustain Governor Scott’s veto of the CHS.  I need four Republican Senate Candidates to win the election.  Steven sees that as a primary goal as well.

With eleven Republican Senators, the Party takes on a new power.  It becomes a broker of bi-partisan legislation.

Lets say, the Democratic Chairman of the Education Committee wants to bring his bill to the floor.  Governor Scott is familiar with it and has problems that he shares with.Senator Brock.  Brock can go to the Chairman and open a discussion to resolve their differences with the bill.  If the Democrats fail to accept that request and refuse to negotiate, Senator Brock can then say the Governor will veto it and we 11 Senators will vote to sustain.  So, Mr. Chairman, either meet our request to have a bi-partisan discussion; or your bill is dead today — unless you reconsider.

Isn’t that an obvious achievable solution to blocking enactment of terrible legislation; as long as Governor Scott, or his Republican successor are present to provide that minority wall.  Senate Republicans can put the brakes on any new legislation that will bring more economic pain to Vermonters.

Republican Chairs must use this opportunity to mobilize all voters to see the necessity to shift the Senate with 11 or more Republican Senators.  You and they can right this ship of State.

Businesses, you should speak out and support this Checkmate Campaign.  The CHS is going to increase your and my fuel 70 cents/gal. and more.

  1. To quote a Norwich Sociology professor I talked to, even most Vermont Democrats don’t want a heap of extra taxes.

Most people on the Left never knew that the legislature could override a veto from Scott. They specifically want him there to STOP the legislature from going too far. Unfortunately for them, they stacked the deck in their ignorance and we are all going to be dealing with the fallout. Hopefully, once balance is restored, some of the most extreme legislation can be overhauled or overturned to reflect the public interest rather than either party’s politics.

    • I am appealing to Republicans, Independents and moderate Democrats to realize that bi-partisan legislating is within reach and will give more responsibility to legislators. It requires thinking voters to understand how having 11 Republican Senators can begin to right our Ship of State.

Educate voters by posting this idea in your Front Porch Forum

    • Mr. McCormick, we are not able to post this to Front Porch Forum. We are either heavily censored in regards to political issues. Or we are kicked off completely. FPF, like most media outlets in this state, are highly biased.

  2. Chris Bray is a good starting point, for the people of Addison Co. but almost every county has their own “good starying point”. The Legistalure needs a complete overhaul.

  3. It is nice to see that John Rodgers has decided to finally move to the Republican Party.

JOHN RODGERS is a REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE for LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR.

We encouraged him to make that move years ago but for his own reasons he stayed with his party as long as he could.

John Rodgers is no newcomer to the Golden Dome where he has served Vermonters for many years.

We may have disagreed on some issues, but you could be assured John would always be honest with you telling you the truth whether you liked to hear it or not.

You could always depend on John Rodgers to be a big presence at the many rallies for our Constitutional Rights… John stood at our side speaking on our behalf against those that would attempt to violate our rights in the State of Vermont.

I welcome John to the Republican Party to serve as our Lieutenant Governor and I encourage everyone to vote for this wonderful gentleman to serve in that office.

With his past experience as an elected official, he has the knowledge and experience to serve intelligently from day one. JOHN IS JOB READY!

John has previously served in Vermont Government and own his owns businesses that are becoming more and more successful with his leadership and the help of his beautiful family.

John is not afraid of hard work…building stone walls and other jobs to survive and support his family.

John is a candidate that understands the hardships of the WORKING PEOPLE and will fight to protect us.

Please VOTE JOHN RODGERS for LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR…it is a start to turn VERMONT into a livable state for all VERMONTERS.

  4. Again it’s not about votes or voters it’s about ballots. Why do we need machines(connected computers) to count about 300,000 ballots. When ballots can be mailed out to who ever feels like filing it in. My bank tells me I need an ID just to give them my money, just a deposit no cash back, just giving them my money they want my ID. This state will not change until the voting laws change. Remember it’s not who votes, it’s who counts the votes. Voter ID is a must!!!!!!

  5. How do the progressives get into office and hold their seats year after year, all you need are ” votes ” legal or not, if you look at the cesspool known as Burlington and all the shenanigans to get votes, like no ID, students nonresidents, non-citizens and changing districts to tilt the scale so there candidate can get the votes…….. pathetic !!

Until people wake up, this progressive cancer will kill the state, just look what we have today, crime, drugs, and homelessness, all running rampant …………………..

    • I’ve come to the conclusion that people can’t be bothered by politics. They take whatever comes at them and try to readjust to whatever the overlords through at them. There are so many people who aren’t even qualified to vote because they haven’t got a clue of what’s going on. Most liberals live in an echo chamber, a choir formed to re-enforce each other’s ignorance by singing the same song.

The progressive theft of the democratic party and the unknowing voters that believe they are voting for democrats that the progressives killed off years ago. The Queen City was always a democrat stronghold but when Bernie and his far-left team destroyed Burlington, the old-time democrats went along and lost their party. They either can’t admit that their policies don’t work or just ignore it and hope that continuing to vote democrat will fix it even though what they are doing is the definition of crazy.

    • John, begin where you can.

Vote down the ballot for all the R’s while you start to think and talk about the absolute necessity to put 11 Republicans in the Senate to sustain the Governor’s vetos.

Talk to your Republican County Chairs about making Addison County’s Steven Hefferman’s and other likely Rs a priority. Help them educate voters on how the next General Assembly will hurt us again by levying a carbon fee at the gas pump. That’s not an idea; its the strategy to complete the Climate Council’s effort to get Vermont to comply with the Global Warming Solutions Act. John, you can take this on as an assignment.

For other commenters, enough with the grieving and complaining about the status quo. Join the effort to create a Senate veto-sustaining wall against the moving to fast and whatever costs Majoarity.
