Burlington police are investigating a suspicious incident reported Thursday morning near C.P. Smith Elementary School.
According to the Burlington Police Department, officers were notified at about 9:07 a.m. on Feb. 12 after school staff contacted the department’s Emergency Communications Center regarding an interaction disclosed by a student.
Police said the student reported that at approximately 7:50 a.m., while walking to school in the area of Ethan Allen Parkway and Farrington Parkway, they were approached by a stranger. The individual allegedly insisted on giving the student a ride to school and directed the student to get into their vehicle.
The student quickly left the area and arrived safely at school, where the incident was reported to staff.
The suspect is described as an older white male with tan skin, gray hair and a gray beard. He was reportedly operating a white van.
The case remains an active investigation. Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time — particularly residents with home security cameras — to review footage that could help identify the suspect or the vehicle involved.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at (802) 658-2700.
