(Rev. Ed Wheeler of Middlebury gave this nomination acceptance speech for National Committeeman May 18 at the Vermont GOP Presidential Convention. He wasn’t elected, but the speech is worth publishing. – Ed.)
“Okay! If you’re wondering why this is happening – some friends of mine think I need another job! But seriously – it would be a great honor for me to serve in this role. I’ve been studying the national and international issues at hand for 40 years. I spent 20 years in an Asian country. That’s where we actually raised our children. We have three children (2 adopted). We have 4 grandchildren. I got to see America from a global perspective and I realized how precious and how fragile freedom is! And it’s being stolen in our country! And along with freedom comes prosperity! When freedom goes prosperity is going with it!
That’s what motivates me and would motivate me to participate on the national level with the RNC.
I did have a business here in Vermont for 15 years so I know a lot about the reality of that. In fact, I remember Wendy Wilton was the Treasurer in Rutland where one of my business locations were. I have also been the pastor of church for 16 years. So I am an electrical engineer- that was my role overseas but I am also aware of peoples’ spiritual needs, emotional needs, the things that are going on with our children and our families.
Specifically, I am interested in helping small GOP committees in blue States. So not just Vermont, but I want to contact all the people from such states and my proposal is that the RNC… You know they spend something like 400 million dollars every election cycle … What if every state got a minimum of one half of 1 percent? That would be two million dollars! That would be $500,000 every year! Would that help Paul? [Paul Dame- “Yes”] You know the Democrats in Vermont have I think it’s 12 full time staff people. [Paul Dame- “I think it’s 8.”] Okay, 8! How many do we have? [Paul Dame- “You’re looking at him!”] And you’re not full time! [Paul Dame- “Correct!”] You see that’s … and look at us! Here we are! Just imagine if we got a little more fuel added to the fire! I think we could do a lot!
Whether you elect me or not I can guarantee you I will be dedicating all available effort to exposing and opposing the Marxist agenda to take down the United States! Some people want to “fundamentally transform” America! Transform from what to what? From a constitutional republic based on faith in God to an atheistic socialist Marxist hellhole! So let’s work together to make America good again! To make America Godly again! To make America American again! Let’s make America great again! Thank you!”
Change your vote on school funding bill, Colchester resident asks reps – An open letter to Colchester Representatives Austin, Chase and Taylor – Given that Gov. Scott is expected to veto H.887, I implore you to Change Your Vote and Support the Governor’s Veto of H.887.
The following article from Vermonters for Good Government explains the adverse tax implications to Vermont tax payers that are unaffordable. Of concern is that the average 14% increase in property taxes will also continue for the next 3 years due to “H.887 does set up a “Commission on the Future of Public Education” made up of the usual special-interest suspects representing the public education establishment, which will not present its final recommendations for “solutions” for two years.” Another kicking the can down the road, with no relief for Vermont’s taxpayers!
To further quote VFGG, “H.887 is not Good Government!” I respectfully request that you change your vote and support the Governor’s Veto. -George Verdon, Colchester

The above link is what happens when crime gets too high, crime can kill a business quickly. Here’s what is happening in Vermont.
People steal $1,000 worth of Merchandise, there is no penalty.
If you have a 10% margin, you have to sell $10,000 worth of items just to pay for theft!
The company doesn’t make any money yet.
This is the same for theft (gross neglect) of taxpayer money. Waste/fraud and misuse is rampant in our state.
On top of that your competition is selling your stolen product on facebook for 50% off.
It could not be easier to catch all these criminals in our “brave little state” but we chose NOT to do it. We are making things very, very difficult. It’s by plan. If mom and pop closes, where do you have to choose from? Amazon.
Monopolies usually benefit themselves. Cuba and other countries like to control the production and availability of items, like food, fuel, transportation, food, money, because it’s gives them power and control. They don’t’ like freedom, because it gives you power and control.
Vermont is pretty much taken over by a color revolution, we are not free. We are losing our republic. This is the highest art form of war, taking over a state without firing a shot. (Sun Tzu)
The wonderful thing is, they have already lost. Lies, division and destruction are self-fulfilling and always crash. The question is what comes in it’s place? Do we follow the path of fledgling America or fledgling Haiti?
There is one easy way out of this mess, they have not weapons against it, and it’s all done easily. People would be surprised by the answer, but it’s true.
Being the UN’s little experimental baby, that Vermont is, until we get ourselves free of their money-coercian to fund our super projects so we can imagine ourselves playing wid da big boys in Davos and New York City, and pretend we da big boys!
Twubble is, as Thayer notes above, we were not asked if wanted the kind of change urban dwellers crave (AI to the rescue!!! no thinking…just flip that switch!!!), and people who live close to the land see clearly as Satan’s traps and snares to enslave us to mammon… as they always have… and just want to be left alone to live simple lives…living simply simply to live. We USED to be proud of this character of Vermont…
Lazy corrupt people from out of state run us now… we allowed it.
Thinking innocently that ‘live and let live’ was something everyone craved…we welcomed those who wanted the life we had… and they betrayed us with their greed, their vested interests, and forcing us to do it ‘their way’ or not at all.. including into homelessness.
Can we purify and cleanse ourselves of this snare, this trap, this conflict of urban vs rural values?
In the face of our growing dependence on outside financing …we have become enslaved… and we don’t even know it.
Choices… are there any left? Or is it take it… or leave Vermont? (and btw, there IS no place better…this is a global coup).
Caution, Sword of Truth (SoT): I happen to be ‘… people from out of state’ – and I don’t run ‘the State’. In fact, I agree with most of your assertions. Just not this one. Yes. I’ve lived here in Vermont for the last 50 years. But I was a conservative when I arrived. Please don’t throw this 75 year old baby out with the bathwater.
Re: “Thinking innocently that ‘live and let live’ was something everyone craved…we welcomed those who wanted the life we had… and they betrayed us with their greed, their vested interests, and forcing us to do it ‘their way’ or not at all.. including into homelessness.”
For anyone interested, SoT has hit the nail on the head. What we failed to realize is that letting everyone ‘live and let live’ included letting those who are opposed to that sentiment live too. Can we always afford to turn the other cheek? If others refuse to let you live as you choose, to declare your independence a danger to their society, will you continue to acquiesce?
The conundrum. Both sides ask themselves; at what point does your freedom rely on your ability to protect yourself from danger? We fought one brutal Civil War 164 years ago in this regard. I sense another not far around the corner.
Godspeed.
Illinois just passed a budget of $53 billion dollars, they have 12.5 million people
Vermont just passed a budget of $8.6 billion dollarsf for 650k people
they have almost 20x more people, bigger state, spending…only 6x more
We’re 3x the government spending per person as Illionois.
$4,240 vs. $13,200 per person government spending….
Housing is way more expensive here.
Food, Fuel, Medical all more expensive….
We have an affordability crisis, one of the reasons is we are being stolen blind in taxes.
Vermont has a cancer, and it’s the Progressive DemocRATs, or as they like to be noted as the ” super majority ” and they will kill the state with its fervid spending agenda.
Wake up people, all they know is tax, tax, tax….. you are the money tree !!
Vote them out
Finally, a candidate who says what I can support. I hope to find your name on the ballot come the November election.
Forrest Manning in Middlebury.
The real numbers don’t lie, politicans and bureaucrats certainly do. California designated $24 billion to homelessness. An audit disclosed there is no accounting for where $24 billion went and homelessness increased expeditionally. In Vermont, the bondoogle of broadband that has spent multi-millions and still counting since Governor Douglas. How many Vermont households/businesses remain unserved or underserved? Only one of many examples of frivolous wasteful spending (misappropriated or outright stolen) only to be taxed and levied higher fees year over year. The line is in the sand for many Vermonters now – starve or pay illegitimate taxes and outrageous fees.
A simple question is where has all the money from previous budgets gone? How and where was our money spent from years prior? So many boards, task forces, committees, non-profiteers, and NGOs all take part in spending of not only State money, but Federal pork as well. Operation Tincup and lawfare warfare unleashed with no accountability whatsoever. Vote with your wallets and demand they account for every dime – if they refuse, no obligation to pay them another red cent, in my opinion.
