On March 15, 2025, at around 11:00 pm, Vermont State Police responded to reports of a disorderly individual at an apartment building on VT Route 111 in Derby. The man, identified as Nathanael Bagley, 25, of Derby, was reportedly acting belligerent and disruptive.
Prior to arriving on scene, troopers were informed that Bagley had active pretrial conditions of release prohibiting him from consuming alcohol. Once on scene, troopers determined Bagley was intoxicated and in violation of those conditions.
When officers attempted to take Bagley into custody, he fled into a bathroom and attempted to escape through a second-story window. Although troopers tried to pull him back inside, Bagley was able to get out and flee on foot. Despite a search effort by state troopers, Newport Police, and U.S. Border Patrol, he was not immediately located.
