Border-crossings plummet, public approval rockets.

Democratic leaders who are calling for more protests against ICE agents appear to be playing right into President Donald Trump’s law-enforcing hands. A substantial majority of Americans support deporting violent illegal immigrants, so those on the extreme left screaming for obstruction of justice, harboring illegals, and defending convicted rapists and killers are losing immigration polling points. Americans seeking public safety have little tolerance for thuggery.
Polls Show Support for Trump
USA Today reports that June polling, conducted before the LA riots, showed Trump’s immigration and deportation policies received his highest approval ratings, surpassing those for his handling of the economy and inflation. As might be expected, 93% of Republicans supported the president’s deportation efforts in the CBS News/YouGov poll conducted June 4-6, compared to a mere 18% of Democrats, with a noteworthy 49% of independents approving.
Many Americans perceived that Joe Biden’s administration and mainstream media were gaslighting them when millions of illegals poured over the southern border. The stunning speed at which the new administration has delivered on the campaign promise to shut off the spigot has also turned up the lights.
Illegal immigration has decreased from a torrent to a trickle almost overnight. US Customs and Border Protection (ICE) reported Field Operations Encounters (which include apprehensions, inadmissibles, and expulsions) of 750,505 from February through April 2024 to just 86,893 across the same three months in 2025 – an 88% drop. The New York Post reported a slight uptick in illegal migrants for May but cited federal data showing “crossings are still down a whopping 91% from a year ago.”
More Arrests to Come
The current administration is just warming up. While dispatching more customs agents to the southern border, the White House has increased ICE raids nationwide, directing federal authorities to up their “daily quota” of arrests from 1,800 to 3,000 daily. After a mere 100 days in office, the Trump team had arrested more than 66,000 illegal immigrants and deported more than 65,000.
The issue of immigration was a high priority for American voters in the 2024 election, and poll numbers show broad swaths of the public oppose open borders. Further bad news for Democrats staking their political careers on defending illegal immigration is that more Americans are souring on legal as well as illegal immigration.
Polling data from Gallup showed that 50% of respondents were dissatisfied with the level of immigration into the United States in 2021, while only 39% reported being satisfied. By 2024, 64% of respondents were dissatisfied, and 28% were satisfied. Approval of immigration, in general, also took a hit. Gallup found that, in 2020, 77% of respondents believed immigration was good for the country; 19% viewed it as bad. In 2024, 32% indicated it was bad and 64% as good. If gaining public support for immigration is the Democratic Party’s goal, the riotous push for more illegals is undermining legal immigration in the bargain.
Criminal Conduct Backfires
Things get even worse for proponents of illegal immigration when it comes to criminal activities: Most voters supportive of illegal immigrants who work or behave lawfully still want dangerous criminals sent packing. Consequently, knee-jerk opposition to deportation efforts without discriminating against rapists and other miscreants is a disastrous position for the left, and viral videos of Third World-style upheaval in Los Angeles hardly improve the situation.
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and California Gov. Gavin Newsom are encouraging obstruction of justice to protect convicted child rapists, drug dealers, and violent killers. The Department of Homeland Security has released the names of 19 suspects arrested by ICE in Los Angeles to date, along with their corresponding convictions. These aren’t people Americans want on their city streets, let alone on public playgrounds, yet some powerful Democrats seem willing to incite violence to defend them.
Trump’s travel restrictions on 19 targeted countries took effect June 9. While this may fuel more Molotov cocktail flames from the hardcore left, the measures are designed to achieve the same goals favored by a large majority of Americans: blocking dangerous illegal immigration. The Trump administration has articulated reasonable national security justifications for the restrictions. Concurrently, the administration crafted a lengthy list of nuanced exemptions to mitigate the impact for green card holders, the immediate family of US citizens, dual US citizens, refugees already approved for asylum, Afghan allies with Special Immigrant Visas, persecuted religious minorities, and athletes and coaches participating in major sporting events.
The administration’s immigration strategy for the bans is focused on nations with poor screening and document security, links to terrorism, a lack of cooperation on deportation, and high visa overstay rates. Chad, Haiti, and Laos reportedly have large numbers of immigrants who remain after their visas expire. The June 1 attack in Boulder, CO, was allegedly committed by an Egyptian national whose visa had expired months prior. Trump officials claim the listed countries pose a “heightened risk to US national security.”
Immigration Losing Steam?
Statista estimates the number of illegal immigrants in the United States at 11 million, concentrated in Texas and California. The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) pegs the number at 18.6 million as of March 2025, 11% higher than its June 2023 estimate of 16.8 million.
Those supporting a borderless nation invite terrorism, disease spread, cartels, and wayward criminals into Americans’ backyards in the name of equity and inclusion without regard for the innocent victims impacted by hardened hoodlums like those just busted by ICE in LA. The argument that Americans need these new entrants to build their houses is specious: FAIR claimed, “As of 2025, American population growth comes almost entirely from unsustainably high levels of immigration, both legal and illegal.” If the borders remain closed and the flow of illegal departures accelerates, no new construction is required, and US citizen families can afford an existing home.

In this article, Mr. Klar, you wrote, “Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and California Gov. Gavin Newsom are encouraging obstruction of justice to protect convicted child rapists, drug dealers, and violent killers.” Do you have any examples of this? What are the names of the ‘convicted child rapists, drug dealers and violent killers?” I don’t believe you can prove this. If you can, do so. Otherwise, stop spreading lies.
Mr. Klar is a lawyer and is aware that false statements could set him up for libel.
Maybe you are overdosing on MSM and MSNBC.
They aren’t “lies”. The targeting of felons is policy.
Come on. Do your own due diligence, Mr. Rosato. Just one quick web search, for example, showed a November 2024 listing of Stiven De Paz-Munoz, 21, a Guatemalan national; Buitrago-Bustos, a Colombian national; and Brazillian fugitive Alexandre Romao De Oliveira, charged with rape of a child by force, rape of a child, and indecent assault and battery on a person, and rape of a child by force, statutory rape, and aggravated rape, and rape of a child – respectively. Check it out. There are dozens of reports of illegal aliens charged with various heinous crimes.
Is that ‘proof’ enough for you?
In any case, it’s more proof than you’ve submitted to show there aren’t any illegal aliens who are ‘convicted child rapists, drug dealers and violent killers”
So… who is it who is ‘spreading lies’ again?
Thank you for the replies. I’m glad you’re not bots. I do believe it is false that Waters and Newsom are “encouraging obstruction of justice” to protect these people. And you’re right that ICE is getting the bad guys: you proved me wrong. But don’t get me started on the biggest child rapist hoodlum gang in the US: the catholic church. (Google that one for a deep dive!)
And as amateur commentators, if we are going to look at credentials for reliable resources, I offer Marc Elias, as a lawyer who writes the language of the law rather than preaching republican talking points, and helped preserve democracy when Trump tried to overturn the 2020 election. But who needs democracy when we can run the country through executive orders, right?
For mr. Rosato. There’s so much documentation about how the Liberals wanted to keep Trump from the Presidency it’s unfathomable. Just thinking about the events court cases one after another. I don’t have the space to comment further. You’re blind.
WRONG, Mr. Rosato. The Soros/DNC “Power Point for Parrots” of the (as you paraphrase this long promulgated & propagandized statement) “biggest child rapist “hoodlum” gang” in the US being the Catholic Church is not only false but sinister – as are many of the other pure evils promoted by such radical, Communistic, leftist ideologies such individuals being able to change their sex, allowing males to invade females’ sports & private spaces, open borders that violate not merely Federal Law but the entire definition of sovereign nations, not punishing and isolating (imprisoning) dangerous felons, etc.
In FACT, the largest demographic of persons who engage in child sexual assault is: The Family. According to the DOJ/FBI statistics collected over decades, it is family members, the majority being male, who have been convicted of and who have perpetrated and remain to perpetrate the vast majority of such assaults. The two primary attributes that predispose individuals to committing such crimes are:
1.) Being a Male
2.) Being Related to Minor Children
Child sexual abuse occurs throughout society and worldwide cultures, and in certain non-western civilizations is actually viewed as a rite of passage/tradition/accepted act. In the western world where such acts are thankfully considered depraved & illegal, sexual abuse of minors by adults is sadly still found within all socio-economic groups, within school systems, within large organizations designed to serve children such as the formerly known “Boy Scouts of America”, within all faiths including Christianity, Judaism, and all Middle Eastern & Eastern faiths, and particularly & especially within the aforementioned population of the nuclear and extended family group.
The fact that such incidents appear to have occurred more frequently within the Catholic church is merely a statistical bias in that the Catholic church comprises approximately 1.4 billion members worldwide as opposed to alternate Christian sects that number over 40,000 individual denominations which even combined don’t come close to totaling the total number of adherents of Catholicism – a faith that continues to grow especially in locales in Asia and Africa – and also most recently within the USA again as well, particularly in parts of the south and among Millennials.
In conclusion, despite the left’s chronic repetition of such erroneous statements and the blatant bent of the mainstream media of Catholicism in general, and its clergy in particular, (far less than even 1% of priests were ever credibly accused of such abuse & such abuse has dramatically dropped over the last two decades due to newly implemented & stringently enforced protocols across the board) the faith is ever attracting new members and Bible sales have increased exponentially over the past few years compared to the preceding decades within the USA. Such propaganda not only no longer obviously effective, but it apparently yields the opposite outcome in attracting yet more peoples to Christianity (the largest faith worldwide) and to conservatism evidenced by the aftermath of the November elections. So please do keep up the disinformation, as the majority continue to keep the faith.
I hear you, Kathleen. There are a lot of bad dudes out there. It hits home because of what’s going on in Burlington. I’m not a man of faith and sometimes I can be a bit crude, especially posting on forums. I do not intend to offend. Just poke, prod, and provoke conversation.
And thank you for your reply, Nick. Progressive democrat participants on VDC rarely re-engage for a second bite of the apple.
Apparently, we don’t have to ‘get you started’. I’ll pass on the travails of the Catholic Church hierarchy. I have never voted for a Pope and, in any case, I always caution the pot against calling the kettle black.
Myopia is a common affliction, yes, for all of us from time to time. Marc Elias, for example, is a well-known provocateur in conservative circles. And he is, arguably, as myopic a legal wordsmith as anyone can be.
After all, while Elias claimed that Trump tried to overturn the 2020 election, his assertion (and yours, apparently) was based on the premise that the 2020 election was above board in the first place, that there was no evidence to the contrary – an assertion I suspect you maintain as well.
While we can debate what constitutes evidence, probable cause and reasonable suspicion in a legal context, my question to you is, what evidence do you have that there wasn’t voter fraud in the 2020 election?
Vermont, for example, “…. has very few controls, no ID requirements, no restrictions to prevent illegals from voting, and little or no enforcement. Despite having one of the worst results for election integrity” (tied with Oregon for 48th worst), there’s no way of knowing in Vermont – by design, I suspect.
Judicial Watch now reports that 5 million bogus voter registrations have been identified across the country and removed since the 2020 election. Kamala Harris, for example, received 75 million votes in 2024. Biden, on the other hand, Biden received 81 million votes in 2020 (the highest number of votes ever recorded). What happened to the 6 million people who voted for Biden in 2020 but not Harris in 2024? Just askin’.
And the FBI just reported that China mass-produced fake U.S. driver’s licenses to carry out a scheme to hijack the 2020 election with fake mail-in ballots for Democrat Joe Biden. Customs and Border Protection intercepted nearly 20,000 fake licenses. How many got through?
China, as we now know, engineered the Covid pandemic, leading to the massive mail-in ballot process, with funded support from Mark Zuckerberg, who we now know was pressured by the FBI to censor information. And we know that Russian, Ukrainian, and CCP related Chinese oligarchs, funneled millions of dollars into Biden family shell companies.
Motive?
And executive orders have been around for a long time. Woodrow Wilson was the champ, with 1803 EOs. And curiously, Wilson had suffered a severe stroke in 1919, and we’re still not sure who was actually making decisions in the WH during that time. We do know there was no such thing as an ‘autopen’ back then… as was used extensively by the Biden administration. Go figure.
While I welcome your dialog, I again caution the pot against always calling the kettle black.
Well said, Jay. I too like a good conspiracy (china, russia, zuckerberg) but ultimately I defer to the legal system to figure this stuff out. There were about 60 lawsuits over voter fraud across the country in support of Trump in 2020 and all were losses. Dude, either you trust our legal system or you want what they have in Russia. If there was any skulduggery, we can just look to Mike Lindel, Rudy Giuliani, and Fox News, all of whom are paying the price. I have faith in our justice system because there are so many layers; it gives opportunity for multiple opinions to be considered. 60 lawsuits and not one prevailed! Our system is not perfect, but after 60 failed attempts to prove fraud and you’re still not convinced! C’mon man! In Vermont, I trust our elections because we are a small state. I know most of the people working at the polling stations in my town. (only one of them has scorned me in the past).
And for the record, I voted republican here in VT. I voted Heffernan and Cochran, Rogers, and Scott because those dudes are not election deniers and have hearts to welcome foreigners to our country.
Re: “Dude, either you trust our legal system…”
‘Dude’:
I don’t trust the ‘election system’, especially in Vermont. Being a small State doesn’t mean we don’t have cheaters among us.
Nationwide, there have been 306 convictions across 37 states for voter fraud in all US elections between 2016 and 2020. 151 convictions related to a presidential or congressional race: 146 cases involved one vote, three cases had seven votes or less, and two cases had an unknown number of votes. The political affiliations are known for 170 defendants: 39.4% of those convicted were Democrats, 41.1% were Republicans, while the remainder were Independent, nonpartisan, or unaffiliated.
Cheating appears to be a non-partisan practice. The fix: Voter ID and a return to the previous absentee voting method used prior to carte blanche mail-in balloting.
