BENNINGTON COUNTY, VT ─ The Bennington County Republican Committee has announced the appointment of Joe Gervais of Arlington as its new chairman. Gervais succeeds Carol duPont of Manchester, who is retiring after an impressive 13-year tenure as chairwoman.
Under duPont’s leadership, the committee saw significant growth and played a key role in advancing Republican values and representation in Vermont. Her departure marks the end of a transformative era for the Bennington County GOP.
A Historic Shift in Vermont Politics
The 2024 general election marked a historic moment for Republicans in Vermont, which saw the largest state-level legislative shift to Republican leadership in the nation. Bennington County shared in these successes with key victories:
- Sandy Pinsonault in the Bennington-Rutland District
- Chris Pritchard in the Rutland-Bennington District
- Mary Morrissey with her reelection
The outcome of the contested Bennington-1 race will be determined by the legislature in January.
Recognizing Carol duPont’s Leadership
Deborah Billado, Treasurer of the Vermont Republican Party and National Committeewoman, praised duPont for her years of service:
“As a former state GOP Chairwoman and County Chair myself, I had the privilege of working closely with Carol duPont. Her dedication, deep knowledge, and collaborative spirit have been invaluable to the success of the Bennington County Republican Committee. Carol’s commitment to conservative values and her vision for Vermont have left a lasting impact. I will deeply miss our frequent conversations and our friendship we’ve built over the years. On behalf of the entire Vermont Republican Party, we thank her for her tireless work.”
duPont expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve:
“It has been an honor to work with the Republican Party and to contribute to the movement for a stronger, more affordable Vermont. I’m excited about the next chapter and confident the new legislature will make significant strides for the people of Vermont.”
Looking Ahead with Joe Gervais
Joe Gervais, the newly appointed chairman, shared his vision for the future of the Bennington County Republican Committee:
“Carol has been an incredible mentor since I joined the County Committee in 2022. She’s leaving behind great momentum as we continue to grow grassroots support in Bennington County. My goal is to expand our influence by increasing the number of Republicans serving as Justices of the Peace, and on Selectboards, School Boards, and in the Vermont Legislature. Together, we will support candidates who uphold our values and work for the benefit of all their constituents.”For more information about the Bennington County Republican Committee and its initiatives, visit the committee’s website at https://benningtoncountyvtgop.org/.

Give up your free meals Republicans and cut the state budget by example. My bird feeder is empty just like my wallet with these new property taxes.
Carol duPont is a special lady and had tremendous energy and drive to promote Republican values. She motivated people to fight back against the super majority and to stand up for common sense policies – and not to fold when the progressive dreams were carried too far! I admire her and her persistence and I know Joe Gervais will continue the movement towards rationality and affordability for Vermonters. Thank you both for serving your communities.
Have all the new house and senate members sent in their donations to V. D. C. ??????? May be hard to do with the loss of your free meal card.
