The Vermont Daily Chronicle needs your help now. Big time.
I can’t stop you from scrolling past the next few paragraphs, but please allow me to describe what a Vermont without Sustaining Subscribers contributing $108/year, or $9/month, would look like:
– No news media faithfully reporting both sides about public safety, carbon taxes, property taxes, gun control, special interests, housing control, Vermont and the Trump administration, sex-related policy and legislation, and anything else that passes our nose-for-news’ smell test.
– No news media that accepts and publishes your comments, and allows you to read real-time comments submitted by others. These comments are usually at least as interesting as the news or opinion post that inspired them.
– No news media that serves as a gathering place to read, all in one place, the wisdom of the likes of columnists Rob Roper, Don Keelan, Tom Evslin, John Bossange, Alison Despathy, John Klar, and even Johnny Bananas – and many others of all perspectives.
– No weekly video podcast, ‘Friday at Four.’
– No endless stream of Paul Bean’s interviews and reels with Vermont newsmakers.
Some readers say the property tax revolution or the public uprising against the Clean Heat Standard wouldn’t have happened without VDC’s shareable news, commentary and comments forum. I dunno. To say so smacks of delusions of grandeur. But heck yeah, we played a role. Regardless, in 2025 we will continue to stay on top of the relevant news about affordability and protecting your civil rights of free speech, bearing arms and freedom of assembly.
And as always we will do it on frugal, sometimes fraying shoestring, budget, trying to keep our hard-working people on the job. I, myself, pay myself very little; I am happy to, because I believe in the work. But that’s not a luxury our staff can afford.
Between now and when the opening gavel falls on the 2025 Session of the Legislature in early January, I will be asking the 90% of our readers who are not Sustaining Subscribers to make a first-time commitment. Starting now. And with great gratitude I will ask the much-appreciated 10% of Sustaining Subscriber readers to re-up for another year or even go above-and-beyond with their support.
We’re working on enhancing our appeal to advertisers. Beginning today, we will place Premium Advertisers’ display ads within the text of selected news articles. This is a very public expression of our gratitude for their patronage, and a call for VDC readers to patronize supportive businesses. If you are interested in learning about the FOUR special benefits of becoming a Premium Advertiser, email me at news@vermontdailychronicle.com. They look like this:
But, my fellow free-market-loving, get-what-you-pay-for readers, here is the straight deal:
Without readers stepping up, I can’t pay our staff. Will you start now?

Randolph Herald had a large fun(d)raising support us appeal this week, too. We DO need our news sources. Whether it comes from ads or from subscriptions, the press needs to get paid to keep us informed. Thank for all the dedication you put into keeping us on top of things without having to be there to see for ourselves.
FYI: Ads mean a vested interest one usually has to answer to in content one way or another, and thus are unreliable depending on the content of the news. I’ve worked in non-profits supported by advertisers and subscriptions, and its very unreliable — one day the money is there (happy advertiser) and the next its not — and reporters disappear, and coverage disappears, and all of a sudden milquetoast is the news…
VDC is up against a HUGE challenge …a tiny, tiny, tiny boat in a huge sea of propaganda… and no doubt is getting pressure seen and unseen to conform to what VT calls the news…ahhh the money is you suck up!
But VDC is not. It relies on those of us who value well researched and annotated articles on things we care about that no one else will touch because they are paid not to…
I have my own theory about why VDC is still up and running, and it has nothing to do with this world.
The truth shall set us free…but only if a light is shone into the dark corners and bring it to light…
I am so grateful for you VDC!
Hopefully, we will see the end of TEL. LIE. VISION. and their human robots.
I wonder if there are ways to generate more revenue and have more participation with readers? More interactive, the site Whatfinger’s, has buy me a cup of coffee.
What if we were able to underwrite stories we wanted coverage on? Say we could easily donate 50 cents or dollars via PayPal?
What if readers could donate/ vote for certain questions to be asked of our representatives? For instance, ask them all what type of car they drive? Do they have a net zero house, as they should be clearly leading the way.
How about asking them thoughts on stupid grant projects? To see Theo squirm avoid interviews, give stupid answers would be very enlightening.
I’d donate to see you ask 3very representative, what is the difference between a republic and a democracy.
I guess it would be like hiring a press hit man. Oh what fun!
What if we allowed ratings of commentary? With subscription, or comments with subscription?
Advertisers generally speaking are going out on a limb in this cancel culture environment.
I’d love to see more in-depth reporting on the 10 people who make all the decisions in our government, what type of rule would that be?
Many of Vermonts issues remain the same because there is no sunlight, people have no clue on how much of their money is being wasted.
Looking forward to sending more funds your way this year.
Please subscribe to VDC to allow freedom of expression that liberals don’t allow on Digger, WCAX, Burlington ‘Free’ Press, Times Argus and all Media Suppression Outlets…we need to support the common sense views that VDC supports to be addressed on its site. This is essential…you will become responsible subscribers who negate the vitriol of the Left…I just subscribed for my 3rd year and urge you to join immediately as well. Thank you, good Vermont folks.
I sent my check, for a years chance, to have freedom of speech, free of censorship, and thank you folks at the helm, for carrying the torch, of free screech, in Vermont.
You can count on my support, as long as I walk this earth, wish it could be more, but folks…step up, and put your money where your mouth is…108 bucks a year is money well spent.
I suspect without this VDC ,the governor would still be without the power to veto, but now he does, and 4 less Dem senators…that’s a lot of power, for 108 buck a year!
KUDO’s VDC!
