Letter from the Publisher

I was dumbfounded when the lady asked me…..

“Why didn’t you ask them for money?!”

The scene: A recent Saturday morning civic gathering at the Canadian Club in Barre. I had just finished delivering a 15-minute talk on current events and the Vermont media.

The woman: a generous, longtime supporter of the Vermont Daily Chronicle, who along with her husband give me words of encouragement every time they see me, often with a check in hand.

Her urgent question caught me by surprise, to say the least. I thought I had asked the crowd for money. I had described how our continued operation depends on happy readers – including several present in the crowd – voluntarily contributing $108/year. I said that without this financial crowdsourcing, VDC not only can’t grow, it can’t even continue to publish.

Isn’t that asking for money?

Only afterwards did I realize: Heck no, it’s not! As a wise man said long ago, “Ye have not, because ye ask not.”

So I’m asking now, valued reader: would you please, today, become a Sustaining Subscriber to the Vermont Daily Chronicle?

It’s easy. To contribute $9 per month online on a recurring basis, please click here

To contribute on a one-time annual basis of $108, please click here

Checks (suggested annual contribution of $108) may be mailed to: Vermont Daily Chronicle, P.O. Box 1547, Montpelier, Vermont, 05601. Your support is not tax-deductible.

Okay, G——, I’ve taken your suggestion. I’ve asked them for money. Now the question is – will they respond?

Merry Christmas, Free Speech Forever,

Guy Page, Editor & Publisher
