Rep. Emily Long (D-Newfane), House Majority Leader, issued the following statement today.
“As Democrats, there’s nothing we care more about than making sure Vermont is a place where everyone can afford to live. We’re working hard to pass legislation that makes a real difference for folks, and it’s no secret that we have some deep differences with Governor Scott about how to get this important work done.

“I guess it’s obvious that it’s an election year! Unfortunately, turning up the heat and delivering over-simplified political rhetoric doesn’t help anyone and it certainly doesn’t help Vermonters. It’s disappointing to see the Governor and our House Republican colleagues using press conferences and press releases to create an atmosphere of fear and mistrust. Making sweeping statements about taxes and fees — without any context, without any mention of the people and communities these investments will help, without any mention of long-term savings — falls far short of the kind of conversation we need to be having as a state. It’s designed to create outrage, but we’d rather focus on helping our constituents raise families, build careers, grow their businesses and support their communities.
“We need to start talking about real fiscal responsibility and real affordability, and what that means. As Democrats, our approach is to understand that when times are tough and budgets are tight, you need to control spending while also making careful, strategic long-term investments. That long-term, big-picture approach solves problems in the short term, helps people with every dollar, and often winds up saving money down the road.
“The Governor has increasingly used the word “supermajority” in his talking points to imply that work is being pushed through without collaboration. It can both be true that the Governor was elected by a large majority and that Vermonters also voted to elect a large Democratic majority in the legislature. We are citizen-legislators sent to the State House by voters to represent our communities. We are parents, educators, small business owners, state employees, nonprofit professionals, health care workers, farmers, and community volunteers. We share the values and concerns of our constituents and our priorities are Vermonters’ priorities.
“When it comes to hard choices, we’re willing to step up and lead — to support real progress in critical priorities like housing, childcare, climate resiliency, food insecurity, supporting our public schools, affordable healthcare and public safety.
“I want to reaffirm our commitment to listening and collaborating across party lines, and to building a stronger economy that supports working families and a brighter future for future generations of Vermonters.”

Now that’s talent! To be able to put out bs like that and make it sound truthful and sincere takes real talent.
Is KJP writing her propaganda for her ??
It’s amazing how many words a politician can write, while saying absolutely nothing. It’s like listening to an hour of NPR.
I believe the screechwriting[sic] is courtesy of “artificial intelligence.” The oxymoron of sounding smart like Kamala Harris – in this case, without the hysterical cackling between jumbled positive scripted sentences. The craft is passed down from high priestess Hillary and Nancy, the stock trader extraordinaire, who also schooled us in the art of the “smear” campaign. Carry on.
Boy is she full of —- ! ” We are citizen-legislators sent to the State House by voters to represent our communities.” That is what they are supposed to do, but all to often they treat their constituency like retarded wards of the state.
Whomever wrote this statement has exceptional skill at gaslighting. Nice touch, to draw from Alinsky’s Rules and accuse your opponent of exactly what you are doing.
2019 Vermont state budget: 5.8 Billion
2025 Proposed state budget: 8.5 Billion and climbing.
Will we hit a 50% increase in just 6 years? Now that really shows the super-majority effort “to start talking about real fiscal responsibility and real affordability, and what that means.”
This is absolutely political hogwash.
“When it comes to hard choices, we’re willing to step up and lead — to support real progress in critical priorities like housing, childcare, climate resiliency, food insecurity, supporting our public schools, affordable healthcare and public safety.”
These concerns reflect the values of the democratic socialist party, collectivism and United Nations. Food security for who, migrants? The state had food benefit programs to assist all people, but this wasn’t good enough. Now the state feeds all public school children at the expense of tax payers. According, to Representative Charles Wilson, who recently stepped down, the real objective is to feed migrant children all summer. Free childcare of course will put more women to work at the expense of taxpayers, while benefiting the migrant population.
How is affordable healthcare and public safety defined? Is public safety cracking down on crime or stopping people from using the wrong pronouns or objecting to their child being transitioned without parental consent?
Dear Rep. Long,
Through your above missive, your reaffirmation to listen enlightens us that a pair of ears is standard issue. I am sure we all agree that listening is not the same thing as hearing. On March 5, 2024, 31% ( and still counting) of Vermonter school district citizens, from all political parties, voted “No” to school budgets. Can you hear that now ?
It is difficult to trust that you along with the super majority hear. Your very own personal background includes “ being a longtime member as well as a former president of the Vermont School Boards Association” plus on top “ a former member of the board of directors of the Vermont School Boards Insurance Trust.” Here Ye Here Ye Rep. Emily Long the Education Fund’s affordability and sub par quality in education has been in the making for 27 years under your watch. 27 years equates to one and one half generations.
In you and your super majority’s affirmation means now solving the education fund and property tax disaster that you(s) created. Now this also means Vermonter’s choose to pay their share into property/education fund – or not. Hear that ?
Thank you for your attention and your 9 years as a State Representative in being the servant to the people of the State of Vermont.
have you had enough yet//////////////////////////////
The doggy Doo is strong with this one!
I agree, quite stinky indeed!
Not representative of constituents sadly. Do they really think they are? Are they that delusional??
Come on guys, give her a break. All she’s saying is yes, you are going to get shafted on your taxes this year and probably for a few years, but you will thank me in probably 10 years for sure when the rest of the world is underwater and Vermont’s outstanding legislators have successfully solved the climate crisis by importing cars from China and newcomers from Venezuela whilst keeping them healthy so they can convert all our EV’s to boats. All while protecting Vermont’s most vulnerable from extreme right-wing parents who refuse to affirm the true gender of their children. It takes a lot of hard work for our community to come up with a plan like that. Now please allow us execute on the vision.
…and remember… the supermajority is your friend. Your very best special friend.
Another Marxist Oath Breaking windbag posing as a Representative for the VSR.
Emily shops in Hinsdale and Keene cause its TAX FREE in New Hampshire.
Easy drive from Newfane.
Don’t tell.
@Emily Long
“there’s nothing we care more about than making sure Vermont is a place where everyone can afford to live” – If there is nothing you care about more, then why isn’t there a single proposed bill or initiative that you are working on that is reducing spending or costs (short and long term)? It’s obvious you care more about breaking the VT/US Constitutional law – illegal gun disarmament – increasing costs to gun owners – increasing costs to support heroin addicts – increasing costs to make your renewable energy friends more money – increasing costs for education where 50% of students can’t read or do math – increasing costs to own property or rent – increasing costs for business owners to create jobs/hire – Increasing costs for elderly people to stay warm in the winter which many have died (even in Newfane!) – increasing costs of electricity – increasing costs of owning your own transportation – increasing costs to buy food – increasing costs for life saving medication and medical care. I think that word “caring” means something different than what you think it means. You do nothing but the destruction of wealth at the expense of “folks” to make your friends more rich and powerful.
“We’re working hard to pass legislation that makes a real difference for folks” – If you want to work hard, get a real job and leave us alone. You ARE making a real difference for folks, however your previous sentence of making it a place everyone can afford to live is not the difference you are making. It’s quite the opposite.
“create an atmosphere of fear and mistrust.” – Nice gaslighting! Fear comes from not being able to afford to fend for yourself because the government is DIRECTLY responsible for that unaffordability. Fear of being a disarmed slave to the state and street criminals. Mistrust for our own government to follow the law. Fear and mistrust that when the government breaks the law they don’t get arrested. Mistrust because everyone working for the government is a criminal, and it doesn’t matter if the majority wants them to be criminals or not. Following the rule of law is not a choice that can be voted on. Our rights to have our own property is a right we are born with, and the government thinks they can just write something on a piece of paper that changes that.
“Making sweeping statements about taxes and fees — without any context, without any mention of the people and communities these investments will help, without any mention of long-term savings” – Lol paradox!! If you didn’t have double standards, you wouldn’t have any standards at all.
“we’d rather focus on helping our constituents raise families,..” – Why the hell would the government try to help raise families? That is super creepy! You people are absolute psychopaths! If you want people to start families, stop making it impossibly expensive to raise families, how about that?
“build careers, …” – Every single thing you do is the complete opposite of supporting careers. Payroll and hiring costs go up up up up up up. Where is the bill you made that reduced costs for building careers? You force business to register and comply with a bunch of complicated nonsense that is not worth it to business for a state that has so little people. In case you aren’t paying attention people move out of Vermont for career purposes! You are a liar, or you are stupid. Choose one.
“grow their businesses and support their communities.” – What bills have you made that reduce the costs to businesses? Can you name a single thing you have done? Everything you have ever done in your political career has done the complete opposite. Unless you are talking about the political lobby business, and making your friends rich off of the backs of your “communities”.
“We need to start talking about real fiscal responsibility” – You must be one of 50% of the VT educated that can’t do simple math.
“real affordability, and what that means” – More expensive = Less affordable – The only thing you do is make things more expensive. Only a psychopath would make things more expensive, then try to change the meaning of what affordable is.
“That long-term, big-picture approach solves problems in the short term, helps people with every dollar, and often winds up saving money down the road.” – You must be one of 50% of the VT educated that can’t do simple math. Unfunded liabilities – Pensions – Government created increase in medical costs – Government created increase in costs of all necessities of life.
“that work is being pushed through without collaboration.” – We have video proof of your political cult specifically saying to ignore your constituents and labeled them “attacks” – just to ignore them and vote yes regardless.
“We are citizen-legislators sent to the State House by voters to represent our communities.” – The minority in your community is left out of that equation? The majority is unqualified to rule over the minority. The VT and US Constitution doesn’t allow for the majority to rule over the minority. The constitutions protect the minority FROM the majority. You are a criminal who belongs in jail for breaking the highest laws of the land. However, somehow no one ever goes to jail for breaking the constitution or being an elected criminal. Instead they make their corporate friends rich, and let the community suffer the costs.
“We share the values and concerns of our constituents and our priorities are Vermonters’ priorities.” – The costs and priorities of those values are to be dictated by the individual. You are not qualified to implement values and concerns. Go get a real job and leave us alone. You don’t even know what costs are. You are one of the 50% that can’t do basic math.
“to support real progress in critical priorities like housing,…” – Are you a home builder?
“childcare,…” – Did you open a daycare?
“climate resiliency,…” Did you fix all our dams and infrastructure? Or are you a wizard that claims to control the weather for an extreme never ending series of fees?
“food insecurity,” – Did you start a farm?
“supporting our public schools,…” – So you support failure and 50% of children’s ability to read and write or do math for 10 times the cost of market rate, creating increase in costs to everyone which further stresses families with children, which compounds the issues of ability to learn and prosper in society?
“affordable healthcare …” – Yay so you will stop the 100% government-caused healthcare and health insurance unaffordability? Does that mean you are going to get rid of all the government caused increases in cost, and allow doctors from other countries to be doctors, and remove all the big pharma government created monopoly protections? You are going to support alternative solutions by non-monopoly health providers too? Amazing! I didn’t see you mention it anywhere.
“and public safety….” – You are going to start teaching respect, self defense, and gun safety training at schools for all children? You are going to leave law abiding gun owners alone, and keep convicted murderers in jail? You are going to prevent terrorists from coming over the border? Amazing! I didn’t see you mention it anywhere.
“I want to reaffirm our commitment to listening” – Your political cult is on video specifically saying don’t listen, and vote yes regardless. I don’t think that word commitment means what you think it means. My mother used to call it “selective listening”.
“building a stronger economy” – For your corporate friends? How can someone not proficient in math, and 0 understanding of marginal utility have anything to do with building a stronger economy? You are not qualified. Your only qualification is destruction. You don’t understand the most basic of what an economy and the social order is. Go learn some basic economics. Boom/bust/boom/bust https://www.mises.org/begin
Problem/Reaction/Solution – create the problem, generate a reaction to the problem you created, and provide the solution that just feeds back into the exacerbation of the original problem that you created in the first place to secure your future reaction solution loop. Stop creating the problems. If you want to help – remove all the things that you are doing or have done. Nullify anything that increases costs to both the majority and minority. It’s not the government’s job to impose values. It is the job of the government to protect the free people from those that prevent us from implementing our values.
LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES! STOP DOUBLING DOWN!
From one multi-generation Vermont to another, you sure talk(write) a lot! But I’m glad you did since it saves me from writing all of the same points. So, A Yup!
One point – when I write my legislators inquiring about a bill the response is generally, “I’m too busy to read all of that, so I wait until hearing from the Committee Chair on the details.”
She doesn’t even answer e-mails from her constituants.
Fun fact: Obama, Biden, and Clinton held a fund raiser with Steven Colbert and celebrity influencers at Radio City Music Hall last night. They were met with hundreds of protesters from their own party. The hounds of Hell unleashed upon their own handlers. Their party is in chaos. Pay no mind to the drivel spewing out of the Vermont Jezebels – they are wildly flailing and facing defeat (if not prison sentences.) We are witnessing an ongoing wake of the Dem party and the convention will be their funeral. Declared and decreed.
40 years in power
Are we more affordable?
Easy to see their actions, not so easy to decipher their sophisticated speech. A Marxist decoder ring comes in handy, clearly many readers have purchased one.
You can judge a tree by it’s fruit.
Said the democrats spending like drunken sailors …. You have no 20-30 somethings here because you need to make 93k a year or better to survive here ….. abd that was before your new payroll tax, raised state tax, raised DMV fees and I know there’s many I missed Also passed a ludicrous school bill that’s going to start driving out the 40-50 year olds ….. abd that’s before the next round of ridiculous and wanton round of taxes come around ….. go sell crazy somewhere else …. We’re all stocked up here ….
I don’t believe any of you legislators. Your track record is being able to over spend on nonsense without restraint and not spend where needed the most.
Childcare, Rep. Long?
Seriously?
Which one of your party’s bills do not have children of every age smack-dab in the center of your crosshairs?
Childcare?
Seriously?
Talk is cheap, lady, but it sure does fool a lot of people who vote for this crap.
