A candidate for Vermont House Bruce Roy of Williston is running as a Republican for the Chittenden County Southeast District. As a candidate, Roy is taking community engagement beyond typical efforts.
This includes taking a ride in a local police cruiser with the Williston Police Department to learn what the priorities are for supporting law enforcement. Roy told VDC in a phone call on June 3 that this is one way he seeks to get a sense of what needs to be done once in office, including getting largely understaffed police departments the resources that they need.
“Defunding the police was never really a good idea,” Roy said. “We certainly should have a qualified police force.”

I think Bruce would make a great member of the house and add some much needed common sense to Montpelier.
Go Bruce!
I agree BUT THE HEADLINE WHICH STATES THAT “HE ENGAGES” with Law enforcement made me think he had been arrested until I read the story. Congrats, a great strategy for winning the reace, just hope the voters read past the headline
The defunding was bad, but even worse was our corporations, media, sports leagues, etc. vilifying and slandering our law enforcement. The effects of that are long-lasting. And there has been basically no accountability for it.
Wow, a candidate with common sense, I assume with his ride-along with law enforcement will show him what it means to be a ” COP ” It’s not just donuts and coffee, it’s dealing with the scourge of the earth !!
Yay, spend more money to fix our problems. Classic “Republicans” and their supporters begging to take our money for things “we” care about. This is no different than the “Democrats” finding other ways to spend your money to make the State more powerful and wasteful.
Meanwhile, continuing to make things MORE expensive which always increases the crime rate. When you fund this State weapon you can be sure this weapon will be used against you too. The state cannot be trusted with that much power, just look at their proven track record time and time again.
People in VT getting arrested for flipping the bird, and the officer not getting arrested for illegal kidnapping is just one microcosm. Support private armed security for townships instead. Support keeping bad people away from society in the first place, instead of a revolving door and avoidable police piecemeal that we currently have today.
Doubling down on expensive stupid is all that politics seems to offer us. Never focusing efforts in areas that would solve the problem to begin with.
I engage with law enforcement but those blue lights in my mirror every time I drive look silly
