Brittney Roberts, also known as Brittney Metivier, 36, of Barre, was arraigned March 5 in Vermont Superior Court on one felony count of fraud or deceit involving a regulated drug.
Authorities allege Roberts obtained controlled substances intended for medical patients while employed as a licensed practical nurse in the hospital’s endoscopy unit. According to investigators, the alleged diversion occurred between January and October 2025.
The investigation was led by the Vermont Secretary of State’s Office of Professional Regulation and later referred to the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud and Residential Abuse Unit for prosecution.
Prosecutors allege Roberts fraudulently obtained the controlled substances fentanyl, meperidine and midazolam. These medications are typically used in medical procedures for pain control and sedation.
Under Vermont law, felony drug diversion carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.
Roberts pleaded not guilty during her arraignment before Judge Daniel P. Richardson. The court ordered conditions of release that include attending future hearings, keeping the court and attorneys informed of her contact information, and submitting fingerprints to the Vermont State Police.
