Homeless encampment fire near Battery Park

by Timothy Page

Early this morning, at around 3:49 am on December 28, the Burlington Fire Department received a call about a fire in the woods near Battery Park, close to the Police Station. Firefighters quickly responded to the scene and discovered a fire on the hill situated between Lake St. and Battery St, just behind FOAM Brewery.

The fire turned out to be a homeless encampment made up of tarps and a flat wooden platform. It had spread to the surrounding vegetation, causing concern for the safety of the area. To combat the flames, Engine 1 utilized a deck gun from the parking lot behind FOAM Brewery, while a hose line was set up from Ladder 2 to fully extinguish the fire.

During a search of the vicinity, emergency responders located one individual in the area. The person was assessed by the crew from Ambulance 2, but the individual declined medical attention. It was later determined that the fire was accidental in nature.

Authorities discovered that the occupant of the tent had multiple outstanding warrants. As a result, the person was taken into custody by the Burlington Police Department.

If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Burlington authorities to assist with their investigation.

  1. Burlington what was the Queen City, is nothing more than a ” cesspool ” for the plethora of so-called homeless, more like the scourge of the earth, arriving at BTV that they know will allow it to happen…….. liberals, we care…………..BS.

Burlington opened its door to allowing this to happen, if the city cared it would help, as probably have a mental issue, and we know for sure there is a drug concern with ” needles ” found everywhere, but the liberal thinking let’s give them a place to shoot up, how pathetic display they are not helping they are promoting illegal drug use.

If you are bored, take a ride up Battery Street, and feast your eyes on what liberal leadership allows, trash, drugs, and just plain ole filth on every green piece within the city…… Burlington deserves what it gets !!

  2. William Tecumseh Sherman would be proud. I also had the beginnings of a drug prevalent, homeless encampment on my river front, commercial property. After refusing a request to leave, I doused their belongings with gas and set it ablaze. That was the end of it. True story.
