The Bradford Selectboard Chair said during Thursday’s night’s regular meeting that she would like the board to consider installing security cameras at town-owned buildings after the latest spate of graffiti on public buildings.
The rear of the Bradford Academy was tagged earlier this week. There was also profanity spray painted on the back wall. We also spotted similar messages on a Jersey barrier positioned on the Route 5 bridge by Bradford Falls.
The Bradford Historical Society maintains a museum located in the town-owned Bradford Academy building, which was constructed in 1838 and served as the town’s high school until 1939. The museum contains a collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents that showcase the history of Bradford and its residents.
“It’s a sad situation,” said board chair Meroa Benjamin.
The Little League dugouts on nearby Memorial Field were covered with graffiti last year. Vandals have also damaged the building at Elizabeth’s Park in the recent past.
Worth noting that Bradford is not alone in coping with graffiti on public spaces.
A South Burlington restaurant was victimized recently. Neighboring Burlington passed an ordinance last year.
