Hancock shooting victim identified

Vermont State Police are investigating a homicide in the Addison County town of Hancock that left a 45-year-old Rochester man dead following what family members described as an attempt to resolve an inter-family dispute.

According to WCAX, family members said Howard Doyle came to the home of his son’s girlfriend on Sunday to help smooth over tensions, but the situation escalated and Doyle was shot and killed.

The Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office notified state police Monday evening that the autopsy had been completed and identified the victim as Doyle. The medical examiner determined the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death a homicide.

State police said the investigation began at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, when authorities received a report of an altercation at a property on Bettis Road in Hancock. First responders found a man dead inside a vehicle near the scene.
