Governor Phil Scott defended Afghanistan refugees in Vermont on Facebook Tuesday in response to the recent high-profile shooting in Washington, D.C., involving an Afghan refugee suspect.
“Many of our Afghan friends and neighbors served side by side with Americans fighting terrorists in their homeland and both they and their families faced extreme danger in doing so. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with members of the Afghan refugee community and continue to believe we’ve done the right thing and should continue to welcome vetted refugees to Vermont and encourage them to pursue citizenship,” said Governor Scott.
“These individuals have an extraordinary track record of achieving economic independence and making positive contributions in our communities. I’m proud of them and of the Vermonters who have stepped up to help them build stable, independent lives.”
“The shooting in Washington D.C. is a painful reminder that people can become violent for inexplicable reasons, especially those involved in warfare, although there’s no excuse for what happened. It’s also not fair to cast blame on an entire group of people who are doing the best they can to integrate into our communities and follow the American dream.”
“I want to be equally clear that, it’s also reasonable and prudent for the federal government to investigate to be sure there are no additional security concerns or vulnerabilities in our systems. It is important that America have a secure, compassionate, legal immigration system that prioritizes protecting our allies when they need us most.”
In the wake of President Donald Trump’s announcement to review and deport Afghans admitted under the Biden-era Operation Allies Welcome program, Vermont’s Afghan immigrant population is reeling with fear, according to a CNN report that has sparked widespread online discussion.
Vermont, home to the highest per-capita Afghan population in the U.S., faces unique fallout from the policy shift. CNN National Politics Correspondent Eva McKend, reporting live from the network’s New York studio, described the scene as a “worst case scenario” for the community.
McKend, a former WCAX reporter, spoke directly with Molly Gray, executive director of the Vermont Afghan Alliance, who painted a picture of widespread anxiety. “They are frightened; some of them are not leaving their homes out of fear of retribution,” Gray told McKend. Many Afghans have become “deeply integrated into the small towns across the state… and from a real practical perspective the state is reliant on immigrant workforce because of the shrinking workforce and very small tax-base in the state.”

Afghans that are legal should contact the county Sheriff and prove it and get ICE off their backs.
Why does Vermont have the highest per capita of refugees???????
We don’t have enough homes ourselves!
Why?
“Vermont, home to the highest per capita Afghan population in the U.S.” Not the highest per capita of refugees.
“President-ELECT Donald Trump”?
Who’s psy-opping who?
His first mistake was referencing CNN and whatever they have to say about anything.
How is it that certain foreigners are targetted by scripted narratives in timely fashion ever since the border was flung wide open? The Haitians, the Palestinians, the Iranians, the Somolians, the Afghans…who is next – Venezuala? They throw out the “all are welcome” mat, then pull it according to events that unfold suddenly. It seems like our melting pot is whipped up on purpose, with a purpose. American citizens shoved squarely in the middle of a constructed civil war against an ever changing enemy – all transported here, all expenses paid with the blessings and cooperation of the countries of origin. It could never be done without organization, coordination, and compensation.
The most glaring clue could be all of those targeted are from countries that were toppled by regime change operations taking place over the past thirty years – and accelerated over the past five starting with a global pandemic – or rather plan-demic = Agenda 2030. A global war pitting the pawns against each other in sick, twisted, evil scheming and deceiving. Is the big picture and the big head games coming into focus yet?
Cultures and “religious” groups that are generally so antithetical to one another cannot abide side by side.
While this does not mean that one ethnic or “religious” demographic is in any way superior to another, one must assess whether or not the USA can ever realistically continue in attempting to accommodate large swaths of peoples who: possess no desire for assimilation, who believe females are intrinsically inferior to males, who do not accept democratic principles, who engage in mutilating the sexual organs of female offspring, etc.
In the USA, divorces were often granted for reasons of incompatibility or irreconcilable differences.
Is it not feasible and even likely then that the same can be observed between cultures? Indeed, it is.
To each his own….. though not necessarily HERE within these United States thanks to our Constitution and common-sense rule of law.
And elsewhere, serious human rights violations persist around the world often against females specifically – which should not and cannot be ignored either, though the U.N. continues to ignore them as they have always done, often in the name of “religious” freedom.
Meanwhile, the third Afghan National in the USA has been arrested on terrorism charges. Critical vetting is essential.
In Vermont it is not a matter of “if”, but “when”, when VT sees a travesty unlike anything ever visited upon her.
Seems to me they wouldn’t be here if the allies hadn’t deemed it necessary to storm into their country and occupy it for 20 years, then simply pull up stakes, leave it all behind taking the spook operatives along for a ride of a lifetime.
WMD’s, axis of evil, and all other flim/flam excuses given to create order out of chaos going on how many decades now? I wonder how a wave runner drug boat can make it from the shores of Trinidad? to the United States without interception or detection – it wasn’t an ocean liner – C’mon man! Even the pirates off the shores of Africa had a more sophisticated operation….allegedly….don’t hear about them anymore.
What is going on? Several years ago, after a threat of a school shooting, in some other state, Scott went with his feelings to try to get more gun control. Now that there are acts of gun violence against National Guard members, he supports them as if they were long lost relatives. What the hell? Do we wait for Vermont Guard to be harmed?
All cultures are not equal.
The “white colonizers” and “land stealers” of America eradicated the cultures of cannibalism and slavery.
And now the left insists that we welcome cultures that include pedophilia and female mutilation into our country.
So question: with the national average of refugees using the lions share of public aid what does that look like in VT? I have questions also about the workforce issue, care to include that in the article? We can go to CNN and read or see their opinion, how about presenting some facts in the article.
How many Afghan refugees are in VT? How many receive federal or state subsidies, all provided by US taxpayers? How many are now self sufficient?
Firstly let me say the Biden admins shunned actual Afghan advisors and soldiers from coming to the US. There was a movie about what it took to bring a loyal friend to the US – “Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant.” there many NGO’s that helped bring Afghans to the US when Biden turned his back.
And your right there were many Afghan that did help us and there were those who turned on us to the tune of about 15 incident a month at their peak – Green on Blue attacks.
The fact is we Do Not know who the friendly’s are and who are not.
Gov Scott, read the Qur’an and “Caravan” by James Mitchner to begin to understand the complexities of the country and its people. To support the comment about reading Caravan, a professor and expert in Afghan culture requires all his students to read the book at the begging of his class – he lived with tribes in Afghanistan for years.
Muslims are encourage to be deceitful to further the cause of Mohammedanism and bring down the infidel.
Just today a senior FBI official said that there was very little they could do to vet Afghqan so in essence it was a lie they were all vetted. Only those that GI’s knew were reliably vetted.
So to sum it up you know very little about these people.
Last Spring, I went to Walmart to look for a small space heater. The first four Walmart employees I asked to direct me to the space heaters couldn’t speak English. The last one took me to a supervisor, who was Caucasian and could speak English.
If immigrants won’t work to assimilate, then they shouldn’t be here. Oh, and I don’t go to that store anymore.
read an interesting piece that said perhaps shooter was coerced by Taliban by threatening his family that is still in Afghanistan. no vetting can prevent that if whole family not brought to this country
Don’t give Scott any ideas.
You would be surprised to know which country protects the most pedophiles.
The question isn’t about Afghans, or people from any other country. IT IS ABOUT ARE THEY IN THE U.S. (and Vermont) LEGALLY ❗ Biden administration brought (allowed) people in, many without following proper protocols. Generally, no vetting was done. So now the current POTUS has to go back and follow up. If they are really here legally, and ALL proper immigration protocols were done, that is fine. But many aren’t, and they live in every state, including Vermont.
If Governor Scott truly wants to truly lead he should make all immigration data on every individual in Vermont available to Federal authorities. They aren’t going to kick people out who are here legally.
That said, it is too bad some who are here were sold a bill of goods by the Biden administration, told they were legal, when LITTLE to NO immigration vetting was really done.
For those who are using the “would Jesus allow immigrants in” argument;
Jesus said, “Nobody goes to the Father (who is in heaven) except through ME”. Even Heaven has vetting regulations.
