Vermont voters pay the price

by Joe Gervais
Vermont’s Attorney General, Charity Clark, is back at it, jumping on a 19-state lawsuit against President Trump’s March 25, 2025, Executive Order(EO), “Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections”. It’s her ninth crack at Trump, per her own office’s count—less a stand for justice, more a tired partisan rerun. The EO calls for proof of citizenship to vote and Election Day deadlines for mail ballots, but Clark brands it a constitutional outrage, a voter-suppression plot. She’s kicking up dust, ignoring the real flaws in our elections—like the ones that robbed Bennington County voters in 2024. Her focus is off, and Vermonters are the ones stung.
The EO is straightforward: register for federal elections with a passport, birth certificate, or REAL ID—no more “trust me” checkboxes. Mail ballots must land by Election Day, not wander in late. States that dawdle face Justice Department heat or slimmer federal funds. It targets gaps we can’t shrug off. Non-citizen voting’s not a fairy tale; Virginia is probing cases now. Kyle Becker’s report exposes a nastier problem: in 2024, the Social Security Administration (SSA) issued millions of Social Security Numbers(SSNs) to non-citizens, including illegal immigrants. Vermont’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driver’s license application, with automatic voter registration, lets those non-citizen SSNs snag driver’s licenses, quietly adding names to voter rolls unless they opt out. It’s a rigged setup—automatic registration games the system, bloating rolls with unverified names, priming them for mail ballots that dodge scrutiny. The Department of Government Efficiency linked some of these SSNs to non-citizens on 2024 voter lists—a flare Clark ignores.
Her lawsuit, filed April 3 in Massachusetts federal court, leans on Article I, Section 4—states and Congress, not the President, set election rules. But then she spins a fable about millions of voters blocked by ID rules. Rubbish. The REAL ID Act’s been rolling out for 20 years, and in less than a month — after May 7, 2025, you can’t fly without one or a passport—both valid for the EO’s voter ID. Vermont’s 600,000 folks mostly have driver’s licenses; town clerks have handled REAL ID vital records requests since 2005. Her budget moans? States had decades to prep. It’s not a wall—it’s a dodge.
Clark is sidestepping the real battle. My “Election Steals” series, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four laid bare numerous issues including shaky verification and mail-in risks. Vermont’s partial audits are far from ironclad, and the machines are untrustworthy. Tulsi Gabbard gave an update in a cabinet meeting Wednesday where she stated there is evidence that electronic voting machines have been tampered with to manipulate outcomes in the United States. The SSA’s SSN blunder, feeding DMV’s auto-registration, is a live wire—non-citizens could slip through, and Clark’s mute. Worse, she’s deaf to what hit Bennington County in 2024. The Bennington-1 House race saw 40 Pownal voters handed wrong ballots due to a checklist error, in a race with a razor-thin margin. That’s not a slip; it’s a scar on democracy. Clark’s suing over fantasies while real voters—our neighbors—lost their voice.
The EO is not perfect. It’s a heavy tool, maybe too stiff. But Clark’s not here to fix elections—she’s here to sling mud and gaslight us on Vermont’s election security when we have universal mail ballots with no chain of custody. Nineteen Democratic AGs, no Republicans? That’s a posse, not a cause. Her nine Trump lawsuits—citizenship, budgets, whatever—reek of agenda. If integrity mattered, she’d face SSA leaks, DMV tricks, or Bennington’s fumble. Instead, she chases ghosts, leaving Vermonters to mop up. Truth matters—elections must echo the people’s will, not bureaucrats’ errors or politicians’ ploys. Clark’s fight isn’t for Vermonters; it’s for her. Vermont deserves an AG that deals with the state’s judicial crisis, not one tilting at windmills.

She and our Vermont Congressional delegation gaslight everything, if we ever heard true representation of what is going on we in Vermont would have a collective heart attack
Unfortunately they all got elected by Vermont voters. So until we can elect some Republicans, we’re stuck with them.
We need a new party then, they are totally ok with what the dems are doing don’t be fooled. We don’t even have strongly worded letters for Gods sake. The uniparty is alive and well in Vermont.
I am fairly sure these lawsuits that are being filed by this Marxist Vermont Government are being paid for our taxes. I do not support the waste of my tax dollars to fight a policy of our legally elected President! Voter ID was a thing in this Country when I first Voted. I had to show my voter registration card and my Drivers Licenses, Birth Certificate or some form of Legal approved ID. Birth Certificate couldn’t be a copy unless it had the certification stamp on it. Anyone can get their Certified Birth Certificate online very easily!
There is absolutely no reason not to have Voter ID in this Country! The Marxist Democrats don’t want because they can’t manipulate the elections,
In Vermont there is absolutely no reason to continue to mail out ballots period! COVID is over. It’s just another way for them to cheat. Ballots should not go to any PO Boxes either! I time to clean up the mess this State is in and protect the integrity of our elections!
What happened to the safe and easy process of Absentee Ballots on request?
Well I live in a small Vt town where everyone is known by us Justices of the Peace or the Town Clerk, and we never saw any fraud. We had Trump recount a couple years ago, and it all turned out OK. I think you’re over reacting, & I know the commenters here tend to over reacting!
HOD PALMER, I live in Victory. Our Grandlist is perfect every Election. Of Course we know every single person that votes but we still ask their name when they vote and we still use paper ballots! You are missing the big picture here! This lawsuit is National! They are fighting against National Voter ID! Not just your little Town in Vermont! No one is overreacting about this lawsuit! There shouldn’t be one and Vermont shouldn’t be a part of this BS! National Voter ID is a critical necessity to protect the integrity of our Elections!
We also of large areas where people don’t know everyone. You can’t compare your small Town to Burlington! That’s Apples and Oranges.
When you watch voter returns on Election Day the State of Vermont is usually Red until Burlington, Brattleboro and Montpelier results come in. The poof… Blue! Our State needs Voter ID too!
I support voter ID, never said i didn’t.
I’m 74 but I will definitely help any way I can!
As long as we have an A.G. that jumps on every band wagon (or clown car) that originates in the state of Califailure, these wacky left ideas will continue to cost Vermonters freedoms, and money . Vote the young lady out !
Rigged in Vermont. TRUMP WAS RIGHT!
Charity Clark is the absolute WORST of the WORSE! It is unreal that anyone would consider proving who you are to vote is any kind of suppression. In my view it is RACIST and INSULTING to anyone her and her ilk would consider too DUMB to get ID or proof of citizenship. The only conclusion one can come to is that the democrats and progressives want room for cheating. I believe it was this publication – or possibly True North that showed a zoom meeting with our previous, inept, Secretary of State and several town clerks. Many of these clerks stated there was no way to detect fraud in Vermont elections. Perhaps this AG should look at that meeting. ID requirements with voting would go along way to fixing this problem. But no, AG Charity spends all her time trying to make a name for herself nationally and making fools of all Vermonters instead of dealing with the many problems we Vermonters are experiencing.
I totally agree! I’ve said this before and I will say it again. The SOS needs to stop sending ballots out in the Mail. The first time that the Previous SOS sent them out it was a disaster in Victory! Our Grandlist was pristine and SOS Office had before the ballots were sent out. The previous SOS Office preceded to send ballots to addresses from 20 years ago. People were dead. They didn’t live at those addresses anymore and the Post Office didn’t recognize these addresses. My home wasn’t even listed because back then it was a field. It was absolutely ridiculous and I guarantee it was done on purpose! In Victory, we pride ourselves on the integrity of our elections. But I still support NATIONAL VOTER ID’
Follow the money that got her in office…we are closely watching all officials that have anything to do with the elections, in Montpelier, and changes they make to the process, and law, and about those past Zuckerbucks, paying to force Dominion voting machines, to all the towns… then after the towns got them, the SOS decided not to run again…we are watching, and following the money there too…this is far from over. I’ve a hunch that soon some wool will be lifted from the eyes of Vermont’s voters. Time will tell.
