Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

by Guy Page

In the Friday, July 5 episode of VDC-TV’s Friday at Four, Guy and Paul discuss:

  • What happened at the Colchester July 4 parade, where both GOP Lt. Gov. candidate Greg Thayer and U.S. Senate candidate Gerald Malloy were prohibited from walking because of their “association” with a controversial truck in the parade two years ago;
  • The impact of the Supreme Court decision on government assistance for the homeless, and how best to help them deal with the problems that contribute to their homelessness;
  • Their own answers to Paul’s question, “How would you describe the condition of America in One Word?”

Your own comments welcome!

  1. Re: “What happened at the Colchester July 4 parade, where both GOP Lt. Gov. candidate Greg Thayer and U.S. Senate candidate Gerald Malloy were prohibited from walking because of their “association” with a controversial truck in the parade two years ago;”

I’m disappointed by both candidates. They should have walked in the parade anyway.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; OR THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO PEACEFULLY ASSEMBLE, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievance.”

Re: “The impact of the Supreme Court decision on government assistance for the homeless, and how best to help them deal with the problems that contribute to their homelessness;”

The SCOTUS decision increases the available options for municipalities to act – if they choose to do so. The question is, of course, what will Vermont’s municipalites do differently? My guess… very little will change.

Re: “How would you describe the condition of America in One Word?”

    Endangered.

  2. The “Street/ Road has public acess, they can’t stop people from walking on them!!

  3. Constitution rights CANCELLED.

They SHOULD have walked, had the “parade Nazi’s” call for their arrest, been arrested, recorded the incident, & had their cause for rule of law to be followed & Vermont’s Communistic & illegal practices splashed ALL. OVER. NATIONAL. NEWS!!!!!

Once again, citizens have the RIGHT to disobey “laws” that violate the US & VT Constitution.

STOP STANDING DOWN & START STANDING UP!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. By the way, H. Jay – I JUST read your comment & obviously stated the same – I was so irate by not only Colchester’s directive, but by these candidate’s willingness to kowtow. Malloy ESPECIALLY should not have withered away into the abyss as the Communist Party candidates marched proudly.

My GOD. This man is a US VETERAN & he was instructed he may not walk in a JULY FOURTH parade, and he OBLIGED?????????

Not me. Never. And I never “served” a day in my life. Thank you for your service. But no thanks for your bootlicking quite honestly. The enemy was there. On the horizon. And he took YOU down.

STOP the Vermont “compliance” & “peacenik” nonsense!!!!

GO NEW YORK on these tyrants as Trump has, damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY former Town of Colchester is now a THREAT to this UNION, and I PERSONALLY volunteer to drive the auto in question up & down & around the town for hours!!!!!!!!!

Colchester? Come & “get me” you traitorous tyrants!!!!!

    MAGA!

  5. Now: A couple I know who still live in Colchester recently contacted the Town manager’s office there & were told that the candidates in question were denied because they failed to pre-register for the parade and not whatsoever because of any political allegiance or signage.

Mr. Malloy, as a reader of VDC, can you inform us or can Guy Page clarify in his stead whether or not Mr. Malloy registered for the event as the town requires all participants do?

If not, my personal anger has been ill spent and the point with regard to signage on a parade vehicle is moot.

Such information would be decidedly important within this context.

  6. my deploy malloy sign is on my front lawn in full public view//// it would be wise not to steal this one/////////// my take back vermont sign is still on my building in full public view//// just another day at the vermont zoo////

  7. The Democrats have become disgusting. People on the right must stand up and get loud about what is happening in this state.

  8. Hello, just seeing this article.

I went to Colchester parade lineup. I believe we had sent in information to register for this parade. Upon check in I was told it was invite only and they did not have our car permit information or my license information. I pulled over and other people were called in. I was told I could not be in the parade and asked if that was alright and I said ‘no, it’s not alright’. By that time it was almost time for the parade to start and I had a plan to go to the Milton parade which I was also registered for that started an hour later. I left and drove slowly down most of the Colchester parade route waving.

Nothing about “association” with someone else’s controversial truck in the parade two years ago was mentioned or discussed at all.

We were welcomed in Milton with open arms and the Milton parade was super nice. Yes, the whole thing of me being denied entry to the Colchester parade is wrong and disgraceful, but we turned lemons into lemonade.

    • The liberal left of Vermont duplicitous calls for inclusiveness and diversity are shown to be nothing more than shams and manipulation of the ill-informed people of Vermont! I stand with you Mr. Malloy you have my vote!

    • Making lemonade from lemons is one thing. Sometimes we have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.

There appears to be a discrepancy between Mr. Malloy’s account of this story and VDC’s reporting that should be addressed here. Mr. Bean and Mr. Page: Is your reporting accurate and substantive?

    • Gerald, Washington County proudly displayed your signs on our float at the Cabot parade. The GET REAL message seems to be well received at the parades we attended.

  9. What is worse ? The absolute marxist agenda of those responsible from the Town of Colchester or the betrayal and cheap shots by those who pretend to be Conservatives while hurling garbage at Mr. Malloy and Mr. Thayer ?
For anyone that cares enough to know what this is about, ” The Truck ” in question had an image of a Frog on it. The image depicts the plague sent on Egypt.
Follow God’s Word or pay the price.
Although weak minds and agenda driven people don’t care about facts.
Maybe those responsible from the Town would prefer Sanders driving a garbage truck. Because he along with his party are responsible for the worst dumpster fire this country has witnessed.

One more note…… during the last election where Mr. Malloy ran against Comrade Welch, more than twenty percent of Registered Republicans in VT voted for Welch.
Maybe even some of those screaming at Mr. Malloy and Mr. Thayer for something they know nothing about.

Maybe if the voters of Colchester actually cared about doing the right thing they would demand that Pat Brennan resign over his vote for and support of H89. The now Constitutional Amendment that Brennan and twenty three other VT GOP Reps voted for. Including the three others from our region, Morgan, Mattos and Taylor.
The VTGOP supports all of them, including Paul Dame’s Bromance with Phil Scott.
You know, Dame constantly boasts about America’s most popular Governor.
The one who lied about protecting Vermonters Gun Rights, who has given planned parenthood millions of VT tax dollars, who can’t define what a Woman is, and who supports illegal aliens over Vermonters. The one who said, You Weren’t Essential, but planned parenthood, every government employee, and VT Liquor Stores were.

It’s easy to call out the marxists in Montpelier, they prove who they are everyday.
Those who pretend to be Republican are far worse.
Beware of the handshake and the stab in the back.

    • Re: “…the betrayal and cheap shots by those who pretend to be Conservatives while hurling garbage at Mr. Malloy and Mr. Thayer?”

And who would those pretend conservatives be, Mr. Sexton?

    • They would be the two thirds of the VTGOP who voted not to support my Amendment to withhold any financial support or endorsement from any candidate that did not adhere to the VTGOP Platform Mr. Eshelman.
They would be the 24 VT State GOP Reps that voted for H89.
That includes the biggest traitor in the VTGOP, Phil Scott.
They would be all the VT Republicans that swear they are Pro Life, but actually only in the 3rd trimester. You can’t be Pro Life part time.
They would be all the members of the VTGOP that support Phil Scott because they think he is a fiscal moderate. ( thereby ignoring all he has done to help the
marxists ) and FYI, he stole $ 3 million from the Tobacco Settlement fund and $ 2 million from the program to protect VT children from domestic abuse to give to illegal aliens not eligible for the Stimulus checks. He spent $ 1,600,000 on covid warning signs while telling Vermonters they were not essential and having their children report on who Mom and Dad had over for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
They would be Dame, Koch and the other members of the VTGOP who made it possible for Liam Madden to run as a Republican while withholding support for Pro Life and Constitutional candidates.
They would be the 20% of Republicans who voted for Welch in the last General Election.
Does that answer your question or would you like more ?

I left politics in VT because the enemy of our Republic isn’t just the ones who brag about it. It includes all those who pretend to care about our State but have sold out to the lowest common denominator.
Now I will fight for myself and my loved ones. And I will always be a voice for the unborn and children.

    • Okay. Just checking. Broad generalizations, other than your citing of the usual suspects, serve little purpose other than to confuse commentors like me into thinking we somehow may have offended you.

    • Pardon me Mr. Eshelman, but there is nothing even close to
” broad generalizations ” in my response. Maybe you like to see your name in print ?
One more thing specifically, if you are offended maybe you are complicit.
The Republicans I call out for their betrayal of the VTGOP Platform and for their support of abortion and the sexual destruction of children are all in public view.
Their records speak for them even when they lie about it.
Some claim to not knowing what they voted for. If that is the case it proves they are incapable of representing the people who voted for them.
If it isn’t the case it proves their lies, either way proves their betrayal to conservative Vermonters.

      Breathlessly waiting your reply……….

    • Mr. Sexton: Your first post referred to “… cheap shots by those who pretend to be Conservatives while hurling garbage at Mr. Malloy and Mr. Thayer?” Again, you said “those who pretend to be Conservatives”. That could have been anyone. And because I was a previous commenter, I thought you might be referring to me.

And then I explained my concern was my being confused into thinking that I may have offended you.

Your latest diatribe couldn’t be more off base. I suggest you read these posts more carefully, take a deep breath, and avoid the many mistaken and confusing conclusions.

    • You want to kick out the Governor, 24 Republican State Reps, two-thirds of the VTGOP, the Republican Party Chair, and anyone who is not absolutely anti-abortion or crosses party lines sometimes? Conservatives like you are already an endangered species in Vermont. Must be getting lonely on your island, but keep up the good work!

    • If my Amendment had passed, the Governor, the 24 State Reps, two thirds of the VTGOP and the State Chair would not be members of the VTGOP. They aren’t Republican and the Platform they voted for defines that, not my opinion. But when you don’t stand for something you fall for everything.
They want you to believe they are part of a Representative Government, but then they bring people into the Party that have no intention whatsoever to adhere to the Platform and in Madden’s case openly despise the Republican Party.
You mention abortion but not the fact that 24 GOP State Reps voted for H89 and Scott supported it.
Does the sexual, chemical, physical and psychological destruction of children matter to you ?
Because it doesn’t to all I have called out. They proved that by voting with the marxists who openly cheer for this destruction.
I have been outnumbered plenty of times, I have stood alone to fight against hate, division and evil.
If I am the only one standing on my Island I will be easy to see. Because I will be standing, not bowing over to those who support and try to justify the slaughter of the most innocent.

  10. I towed the GOP float as I have for twenty years and when I was told what happened I called the parade director Glen Cattita and I asked him why he was very short with me and I was told I don’t have time to deal with this because I’m too busy! So I said I want to talk to you about this and he said make a appointment, so I said Monday and he told me that he was on vacation next week but he would meet with me on Friday at 1:00 and I said I will be there but I forgot I had to cook at a family barbecue. So I will reschedule when he gets back. the part about not signing could have been worked in my estimation seeing we were at the very end of the parade. In all the years I have been doing the parade our company All Seasons Excavating has been asked to pull another float at the last minute or provided Dump Trucks at the last minute to block off roads and we always came through for them! I think it was more political than anything.

    • Well then I will trust your judgement as a Mazza man & I know that I personally would like to be kept abreast of what exactly went awry, and what if anything is being done to ensure such a flagrant disregard for civil liberties is never experienced by anyone like this again – should it finally be construed & decided upon beyond any reasonable doubt that political partisanship is what took place here.

  11. One final note for Mr. Bean and Mr. Page: I can’t emphasize enough how important it is that you reconcile your account of Colchester’s actions regarding the 4th of July parade with Mr. Malloy. Your silence on the matter will only lead to future distrust.

  12. Hello everyone and thanks for your support here.

I submit that our Scheduler did register our entry into this parade in beautiful Colchester like we did 2 years ago. And like most parades you do not get any response until a couple days prior to the parade date with further instructions.

My Team didn’t receive any communications from the Parade organizers. We showed up at 9am at the staging area with 5/6 walkers and a vehicle. Pulled in to the set up area right behind the Colchester Town GOP float (a great, Patriotic float).

I was told that I was not registered for the parade and could not be in I then asked, we can walk with the Colchester GOP team. The Parade official said no, you were not invited to be in the parade, you cannot walk in the parade at all. At this point the local House Rep and the GOP Town Chair were standing with us. I said thank you, and we left to regroup.

At this point and at no time did a Colchester parade offical tell me the truth as to why I could not be in their parade, other than, I did not get invited into their parade. I have never heard of such a thing. Our experience, at all parades, you register, they approve your application or your denied access to participate. They lied.

After my Team regrouped, we left the staging area, drove right through the entire parade route slowly, very slowly with signs on our cars waving to ppl and receiving shout outs and cheers from the thousands of ppl on the parade route. I had my own parade. And we drove up to the Milton parade. We were received their by Parade officials with no registration. They place us in their Parade, the Milton Fire Dept. is incredible!

Milton is a great parade and the ppl were incredible. My reception was very, very positive. A lot of energy. Ppl want change!

I feel like we turn lemons into lemonade with an incredibly positive outcome.

Did Colchester Parade officials violates my First Amendment rights and lie to me, absolutely. But my focus is running for Lieutenant Governor and defeating the Democrat-Socialist leaders and Zuckerman and their destructive policies that are taking our Freedoms, Independence, and Rights away. I’m working hard to defeat them. We need you all to focus on us winning on 11/5/24 so that we can change what happened in the Colchester parade and other woke garbage around our great State!

Have a great week friends. God bless you all.

    Gregory M. Thayer

    • Thank you, Mr. Thayer, for your account of the treatment you received from Colchester parade officials. In that regard, I suggest VDC readers go to the parade web site, review the list of local sponsors, and ask them to comment. It is curious that the Colchester Democratic Committee is listed, while the Colchester Republicans are not listed. Could be happenstance. But I suggest asking all parade sponsors to explain the parade official’s inexcusable behavior this time around.

Lastly, neither Greg Thayer nor Gerald Malloy mentions any references to the infamous Mark Coester truck in the Colchester parade two years ago. And I’m not going to address the 1st amendment issues that were touted back then by Colchester officials and Peter Teachout, a professor of law at Vermont Law School, other than to say I disagree with their assessment.

So, unless I hear otherwise, it appears that VDC stirred this pot with some conjecture, which makes it just that much more difficult to hold Colchester parade officials and sponsors accountable for their seemingly biased and arguably unconstitutional treatment of Mr. Thayer and Mr. Malloy.

The truth can be, and often is, a two-edged sword.

    • Ahh, a well-placed, confidential source, speaking on condition of anonymity?

      Surprise us, Guy.

  13. I will be boycotting Colchester. And I will call their town officials to let them know.
