A special food drive is underway to provide free weekly dinners to the Burlington mayor and her wife to help reduce the burden of being public servants.

Emma Mulvaney-Stanak, who took office as Mayor on April 1, and her partner Megan Moir, the director of water resources for the city of Burlington, make about $250,000 a year, but friends have started a food drive for the two women and their two children.

The sign up is through a website known as MealTrain.com and features a picture of Mulvaney-Stanak, Moir and their two children.

The website also says people can donate food cards to DoorDash, Panera, Chili’s, Visa and more to the family.

“If you are able to support them to make the job of Mayor more manageable, please consider bringing them a meal,” says the pitch letter sent by Rachel Siegel of Toward Liberation.

“They have been SO grateful each time a meal comes and personally I felt great to be supporting our community indirectly by helping keep Emma and Megan nourished,” Siegel wrote in the letter that was obtained by Vermont News First.

MealTrain.Com says its national program is designed for “new baby, illness, surgery, loss, adoption, deployment, new neighbor, anyone.”

Some Burlington city employees and departments, including the police, are prohibited by regulations from accepting free items, including meals.

Attempts to reach Mulvaney-Stanak were unsuccessful in recent days. Her chief spokesperson Joe Magee did not respond to the latest phone, text and emails today.

Attempts to reach Moir at her city job today was unsuccessful.  Moir is a former Winooski City Council member (2011-2013) and has worked for Burlington since 2009, records show.

The meal website says there are 25 participants so far and that Jessica Oski is listed as the organizer.  Oski is a former assistant city attorney and a lobbyist with over 30 years of experience. She is a Ward 4 Police Commissioner.

Oski also provided a note for the website:

“If we want to see women and parents of young children in political leadership roles, we need to find new ways to support them.  This meal train is one way! THANK YOU,” Oski wrote.

Access to the donation request and sign-up sheet appears limited to those provided by organizers.  It is entitled “Meal Train for Mayor Mulvaney-Stanak and Family.”

“I still feel the buzz of this 300+ person entourage in addition to all the many supporters who were less involved.  What a wave of momentum. We helped get her elected, and we can keep helping her!” Siegel wrote.

A website note indicates meal donations were sought for every day initially, but the solicitation letter indicated the Mayor has asked for a cutback. “She asked us to extend their mealtrain on Mondays only and take August off.”

August tends to be a slow month for the city. The City Council has only one meeting planned and Mayors have frequently taken vacation time before school re-opens.

There is a signup calendar where people can claim each Monday in the coming weeks. The volunteers list themselves and include what they plan to bring, apparently so those getting the meals will not have repeat menu items.

Delivery to their Old North End home is expected between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., the website said. That might make it tight for the Mayor when she has City Council, Board of Finance and other meetings on Monday evenings.

Those preparing meals are given some limitations:  no gluten and no dairy.

The menus for the coming weeks are mixed.

The meal delivered for Monday this week was vegetable and tofu curry with rice and came from “Rex & Micah.”

Next Monday, roast chicken, local vegetables & watermelon will be on the table and provided by Sharyl Green.

Emily Eley says she plans “Something yummy and fresh!” for June 24.

Next month is filling up.  Chicken fajitas with corn or gluten-free tortillas on July 1 by Margaret Crowley and a summer pasta dish on July 8 by “jenberger oneword,” the website said.

Sylvia Fagin plans “Something GF and DF and yummy!” on July 15 and Stuart & Michelle Lefkowitz/Weiss say they will deliver “something plant based and delicious” on July 22.

Monday July 29 was still open at last check for those that want to join in.  Otherwise, volunteers will need to wait for the fall.  At least 3 Mondays in September are claimed.

  1. $250,000 a year, and they want free food ? Wow ! They should be ashamed of themselves, and the dupes that send them money are enablers . Why don’t the people of Burlington buy them a Mayor’s Mansion and an official mayormobile, replete with flashing lights, and a siren . Man, I wish I made something close to $250,000 a year when I was working. The closest that I ever earned was a little south of 1/5th of that, and now that I am retired……Maybe they both need to get real jobs !

  2. Surely this is some kind of a Babylon Bee joke on the people of Burlington and Vermont. If a couple earning that much money can’t afford to feed themselves and their family, it doesn’t say anything good about living there.

  3. You’ve got to be kidding! Is this satire by Johnny Bananas or is this for real? Organized by a Ward 4 Police Commissioner? How ill considered is that? Let them hire their own cook, or make their own meals just like everybody else. The last I knew, Burlington is not a monarchy, and they’re not royalty.

    • And I might ask, who are the dupes currying favor with the mayor and director of water resources? No pun intended.

  4. You cannot make this stuff up. I have to admit this made me laugh out loud, literally. None of us should be surprised, though, that socialists expect free meals. SMH

    • It certainly is the laugh of the day. It will be awesome to see the entitlement of Vermont’s prog and liberal dems on display in the national media this week, as this story gets picked up.

  5. They can both go pee up a rope n this a absolutely ridiculous and disgusting. Is this an impeachable offense? Let’s hope.

  6. Thank you Mike for this informative and very relevant piece, with all of the grand details! I was so moved that I may sign up to help nourish the new Mayor! I can then bask in my own delight of being part of the community!

  7. I get that sometimes, under severe circumstances, community comes together to support someone or a family, LIKE WHEN I HAD MY SEREIOUS MEDICAL BRAIN ISSUE, our neighbors helped us, but because she got a new job???? SERIOUSLY???? I would say, she isn’t capable of the work/job if she or her partner can’t figure out how to feed themselves every day, simply because you changed jobs……they and their parents failed. HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of moms and dads do this every single day. As Elle Woods said “What, like it’s hard?”

  8. $250K annually between the two of them. Lets not forget BTV’s employee fridge package. Wish I had the audacity and the income to drink “Woodchuck” while only earning $250K. BTV’s “Chosen Few” should lead by example and donate; not receive. Free food for me; not thee.

  9. “Food for me not thee” while people are struggling to feed their families. Hope the voters in Burlington are happy with their choice.

  10. And still these two must continue to pay their own mortgage and utility bills?? Now how is that befitting for two Communist dictators? I’m taking up a housing collection for them pronto.

  11. Absolutely unbelievable! This can’t be real?!!
    If real, it’s so outrageous!

  12. This is the result of allowing college students to vote. Well, the joke is on the people living in Burlington and paying taxes up there, not my problem until it spreads.

  13. A total miscarriage of justice that needs to be criminalized!

  14. Let them go to the local food kitchens with the indigent…bread crust and pea soup…that’s all they deserve. We have Marie Antoinette at the helm just goading the masses to revolt.

  15. Give me a F-ing break, do these people have any dignity, what a pathetic display, so
Burlington, you voted this clown in and she’s the leader of the city, yes it has become a cesspool……………………………. more liberal nonsense !!

Don’t forget Burlington, your taxes are due this week, and money well spent.

  16. Today’s sign that The Apocalypse is upon us.

Of course, these people have no shame. Nor do they see what’s wrong with accepting this kind of “gift”.

Congratulations, Burlington. Just when I thought the Bolsheviks couldn’t possibly outdo themselves, they prove me wrong again.

Count me among those who will no longer spend any of my hard-earned money in Burlington. It’s not anything close to what it used to be… to what made it a destination not to be missed.

So all you libtards and progtards? Enjoy the fruits of your voting choices. Y’all deserve each other.

  17. If we donate, are we expected to serve it too? Will fine china be provided, or do we need to bring our own?

I have never had an income of $250k/yr; it must be harder than I thought.

    • And then the moma bear said to the papa bear “that cute little mark of your’s is bringing us dinner now, so I don’t have to cook “!

  18. I’m going send her a 12 pack of Hey Bub..You know, to help relax after a long day and a free meal.

  19. What a ridiculous hit piece. Providing family support for any major change I used to think was part of Vermont values. I don’t care how busy you think August is or isn’t, becoming Mayor and being handed a huge deficit is a big job. How cruel y’all are for thinking this family should just isolate themselves and that other people who care about them shouldn’t care. MYOB

    • So “facts” are “hit pieces” when it comes to the elite?? Her income is $250K!!!!! No one said they should “isolate”, just pay for their own groceries. Generational native Vermonters are being run out of their family homesteads because they can’t afford to live in Vermont anymore, seniors are living off $12k/year, homelessness is rampant and you think “free meals” for the upper crust, socialist Marie Antoinette and her wife is none of anyone’s business??? The comments here say otherwise.

    • Her salary is $250k a year. Her salary is $250k a year. Again, her salary is $250k a year. Thank you.

    • No, Representative Cordes, this is a matter of ethics and judgment. With a household income that dwarfs that of most Vermonters, the newly elected Mayor of Burlington should be setting an example by dipping into those personal funds to hire somebody who could use a part-time job to cook meals for them. Elected officials who rely on charity, gifts, or whatever adjective you wish to call them, invite public distrust and call into question their judgment and leadership skills. That you fail to understand fundamental points like these, calls into question your own qualifications to serve in Montpelier. Finally, Mike Donoghue is the Dean of Vermont Journalism. I trust his journalistic instincts to shine a light into things like political lapses in judgement because he has a distinguished track record as a reporter. Your cheap shot at him, labeling this a “hit piece”, is beneath you. You owe Mr. Donoghue an apology.

    • Thats as sad as our illustrious Lt Gov poneytail Zuckerberg padding his lunch bill all paid by the taxpayers, true story.

    • Dear Mrs. Cordes. Please state your support for this travesty more vocally. Perhaps on WCAX? I’m sure it would boost your ability to get re-elected next time.

Are you sad that you didn’t get free meals when you were elected?

    • Tax and spend your way, Susan? There’s no money involved. Just people wanting to help out friends and neighbors, which everyone is welcome to do.

    • Grifters gotta grift! She learned the art of scams and skimming from the time she was in diapers-her Mom built an entire career and fanbase around it.

  20. Ya know when I was a Security Officer for the SOV in Montpelier we were told not to accept “gratuities” as it may come back to haunt you if someone that you accepted them from was perceived as getting special treatment .

  21. Usually, your run of the mill beggar won’t tell you what time you can bring your charitable meal or tell you what not to bring IE no gluten. The Burlington Royalty has spoken, and the prog servants must deliver as expected.

Just think how braindead you would have to be to deliver at your expense, a cooked meal for 4 to a couple that makes a quarter of a million dollars a year. It didn’t take long for the new mayor to extend her grift as the city turns into a dystopia cesspool too dangerous for families to eat downtown that pay their own way. These people view themselves as worthy and are beyond any shame. The voters in the Queen City now have their Queen.

  22. Really! What about other families in the Burlington area that don’t even come close to what they make!!!

  23. You all are missing the point. It’s not about free food, it’s about the impossibility of being a working parent with young kids, especially a mom. It’s madness….

    • I was a single mom working to take care of two children. C’mon, it’s not impossible, and if it was, she shouldn’t have signed up for the job. Enough bs!

    • Cry me a river. Most of us working stiffs never called on anyone to help us raise our families. Especially giving aid and comfort to two same sex partners earning $250,000.00 a year. If they can’t handle their small family, how can they handle the affairs of Burlington, Vermont. Common Sense is no longer common!

  24. Not a problem! I’ve sent this to every show and personality at Fox News (The Five, Gutfeld, Ben Shapiro, etc.) This is going to be nationwide in a week. Good luck with that! They are going to eat you alive.

  25. This story just exemplifies where the city of Burlington has arrived! The masses want to please their leaders! Remind you of anything?

  26. All I can say is are you @!#@%$# Kidding me?? 250,000 and they need free food?? Where do the homeless and poor fit in???

  27. I must have been braindead, as described by VIP 1, for decades. I worked, in Vermont, from 1979-2015, 70 hours per week for several decades. During that time I drove 500 miles on average per week to fulfill my contracts as a private practitioner delivering speech-language services all over the state. I never considered the possibility of being rewarded by neighbors, my work cohorts, or anyone else with a prepared meal for my children, spouse and I … not once! Like other lessons learned in life, I solved the responsiblity of menu planning, grocery lists, and grocery shopping along the traveled route, and bucked up and put a meal on the table by 8 pm. Concomitantly, I took kids to after school activities, served on civic committees, and baked fresh bread and buns.

No one ever suggested that I could opt out of the responsbility to feed my family. Dystopian.

  28. The weakness of humanity is at an all time high… we have now fallen from “survival of the fittest” which by the way got all of us here to to being the “ most weakest to lead the weak ”
I hope that Burlington has found its lowest point to date… even the smallest if frogs dig their way out of the mud

  29. We never had to expect this from male executives. Not even the gay ones.
Meal trains are for those who had a death in the family or an illness requiring hospitalization. Not two lesbians who earn 250K a year.
    What an embarrassment to civilization.

    • I agree. This is just very DISGUSTING. She can make her own meals!! I worked, had 3 kids and was heading up a couple of organizations.. If you can’t stand the heat, it’s time to get out of the kitchen!!

    • Yeah, sure. AS USUAL, this isn’t the fault of Communism and Marxism, its women’s fault. Again. Ever heard of Petey Buttigeg and his partner bilking Americans left and right by the two of them using White House government trips that doubled as free vacations for their family of four on taxpayers dimes as Pete laced up a strap-on and chest fed his babies! How about Joey Biden taking young Hunter all over the world on Air Force 2 as he colluded with Communist China and Ukraine and other foreign governments as he sold access to his Pop – the Big Guy? The swampers were and are numerous and highly dangerous.

Yeah, sure, the USA NEVER had politicos involved in corruption and dirty deals until “women” were involved. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More misogyny on display in full view on VDC. Woodchuckin’ still alive and well.

    • Men of quality don’t fear equality. And no, you aren’t here via way of two parents, you are here knuckle dragging courtesy of a woman who conceived and chose to bear you.

  30. Mari Cordes wins the comedy award for the day. This isn’t a major change, it’s grifter mentality. The new mayor makes $68K/year with full bennies and perks and combined with her wife’s salary the household income is $250K. How many people on this meal train will turn up on the City of Burlington’s payroll in one form or another? How many of their ideas will become city policies? “The appearance of” is strong on this one.

  31. Suggestion: Perhaps these two wealthy ladies, might have their eyes opened to the homeless in Burlington by sharing their Yummy meals with a few of the hungry who don’t have the luxury of a home, shelter, food and ordinary conveniences. I think whoever started this Meal Train did it as an emotional and caring support for the two working ladies, forgetting that there are other Moms and Dads, many working more than one job, and managing to juggle the complexities of
finding time to feed their families, and multiple other responsibilities with no such yummy acts of appreciation. Meal Train people—please find people REALLY in
need of the food, encouragement, and support—that might start to change the
attitudes in Burlington. But pampering these two “busy Moms” appears NOT to be
appreciated by the general public, or others in this Brave Little State, if these are
the kind of values Vermont chooses to embrace. (Gluten Free & Dairy Free—for those with much lower incomes is NOT even affordable, but needed for some.)

  32. Another thought: Besides the “no gifts” policy for police, our health care people in
most medical settings (Public Health, Hospital Staff, Visiting & Hospice nurses & staff, etc, are NOT allowed to accept ANYTHING in appreciation from clients, patients, or family members of patients. Just saying it looks a bit strange for these
two ladies to accept these gracious gifts of free food, from well-meaning supporters, I assume. Meal Train people–please find people who desperately need what you are offering.

  33. With salaries like that for Burlington employees, is anyone really surprised with their budget deficit, and the “accounting errors”.

  34. wow/// fifty three comments about a free meal//// wow/// now find out what the special food will be for the queen of the queen city///

  35. Seriously, this woman attacked me during city council meeting and is currently abusing me further by trying to get me locked up for literally getting assaulted. She was s a fake progressive and is literally persecuting me and trying to get me labeled as a racist antisemitic for speaking for police reform and against genocide…. Even though I have interracial family and she is pretending that I am a threat to justify violating my civil rights…. She is a very disturbing person and I don’t think I am going to survive her assault upon my humanity… She is literally everything wrong with this country pretending to be something she is not.

  36. Last I knew one of the factors that played into accepting a role/job/position was whether one could support one’s self and dependents on the salary offered. Sounds like she should not have accepted the job for $125k to me.

And if the creation of the Meal Train isn’t deplorable enough, the mention of accepting Door Dash, Panera and Chili’s gift cards would be comical if it wasn’t so egregious. The poor taste and lack of self awareness is mind boggling.

I fled Burlington for Colchester 4 years ago after 30 years and It continues to prove it self to be amongst my best decisions to date. Burlington is a sinking ship.

  37. This is ridiculous! We raised two kids, owned a house, never went hungry on combined salaries of $75k. That the mayor and her partner need free meals is absurd. Pay your own way and stop crying poor!

  38. So, does accepting ‘free meals’ from the ‘Proletariat of Burlington’ clear the way for Bernie the Buffoon to donate a soviet style ‘Dacha’ on Lake Champlain to this clueless mayor?

  39. So the X community organizer is back at it, since she organized and supported the BEA, maybe they need to support this poor down and out Mayor & her family, what
a pathetic so-called Mayor, no city leader she’s just an organizer……..

Oh yeah, how many two-income families in Burlington are making $250K ?? and how many are asking for handouts………… No Shame, No Morals…..just a BS artist, hopefully
    she’ll be a short-term Mayor.

  40. This is a huge embarrassment for the mayor, considering this is the SAME WEEK she discussed how to treat the unhoused with dignity. Here’s a thought: GIVE THE COUPONS TO THE HOMELESS!! You earn enough money to get your food delivered every single day.
