Former teacher charged in student sexual assault

Ashley Goodwin

Vermont State Police have cited a former Franklin County teacher on a charge of aggravated sexual assault stemming from alleged abuse of a student in the late 2000s.

State police said Ashley Goodwin, 43, of Enosburg, was charged Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, following an investigation into allegations that she repeatedly engaged in sexual contact with a student at Enosburg Middle School between 2007 and 2009. The student was 14 years old when the alleged contact began.

The investigation was initiated in November 2025 after the Northwest Unit for Special Investigations received a report of a sex offense dating back to that period.

According to police, investigators developed probable cause to charge Goodwin, who is no longer a teacher, with aggravated sexual assault.

Goodwin was processed at the Vermont State Police barracks in St. Albans on Friday and released on a citation. She is scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in St. Albans.

Vermont State Police do not release the names of victims in cases involving sexual assault or domestic violence. No additional details were released Friday. Police said the affidavit of probable cause will be filed with the court and made public following Goodwin’s arraignment.

    • She’ll be getting all her “earned benefits” while she’s retired without much jail time. Then at 62, SS kicks in. Might live in an Exotic place and repeat. Yup Government employee.

    • Why should charges be dropped? She committed offenses for which she had not yet been charged. Statute of limitations has not ended for these types of offenses

    • From what I researched, 40 yrs after offense is statute of limitations for this abhorrent crime….

  1. If that was a male teacher with a female student, boy oh boy, there would never be a statute of limitations. You touch a kid, the truth will eventually come out, even if it’s years later. I don’t think her life should be destroyed, but, I wonder how that kids relationships have been since then, probably messed up. She will have to pay for what she has done, or, nothing will be done, I’m thinking the later.j

  2. This would be much bigger news across the state if it were sexual assault by a Catholic priest.

    • Not true Jesse, they protect their own. Would of been swept under the rug, priest would have been transferred to find better fields to continue assaulting unchecked.

  3. Release all the Epstein files and stop all of the distractions. There must be thousands of websites covering the Epstein drama and this could take down the U. S. Government. ONE NATION UNDER BLACKMAIL author WHITNEY WEBB. Comment from Richard Day with no apology.

    • Yes!!! Release all the Epstein files… not sure why AMERICANS support and condone the rape and exploitation of young girls by our president and the many figures in high power and influence globally……

  4. Here is an example of a huge problem we, as a society have entered into . . . we have only a 15 year old accusation with zero evidence presented and, from the comments above a person has been tabbed as being guilty. A picture of a still innocent person having their life turned upside down by what? A quick investigation? A repressed memory counseling session? A possible financial settlement from a school board? A 30 year old person who had said nothing at the time or since?

Maybe she is guilty as charged and, if so, should be punished to the full extent of the law. But let that play out in a court of law before plastering her name and full page photo to be held as guilty in the eye of public (and typically partially informed) arena.

What if such a charge was falsely made against one of you that are quick to throw stones? Guy, let’s set the bar a little higher than the standard media and not be so quick to throw potentially innocent people to the dogs without significant and verifiable evidence. Just my opinion.
