Firefighters rescue trapped driver after midnight crash

The Hinesburg Fire Department responded early Sunday morning to a single-vehicle rollover on Lincoln Hill Road that trapped the driver inside.

Firefighters were dispatched at 12:24 a.m. on November 30. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that the vehicle’s lone occupant was unable to get out, prompting the declaration of a working incident and the request for mutual aid from Huntington and Starksboro fire departments.

Hinesburg Engine 1 arrived moments later. Crews determined the vehicle needed to be stabilized before they could begin extrication. Using rescue struts, firefighters secured the overturned vehicle and worked to safely free the driver.

The occupant sustained minor injuries and declined transport to the hospital, officials said.

Seven Hinesburg firefighters responded, operating an engine, a rescue truck, and a command vehicle. The department includes a full-time chief, two full-time firefighter/EMTs, and 25 paid-on-call members.

“While we do not investigate why crashes occur, our mission is to care for those involved when they do,” the department said in a statement. “We’re grateful for the positive outcome in this case, and we remind all residents to follow these basic safety practices when driving: Always wear your seatbelt, avoid distractions—phones down, eyes up—and drive for conditions, including weather and speed.”
