Fire kills Marshfield resident/ Hartford man dies of gunshot wound

A Friday afternoon fire in Marshfield killed a person living in the Rte. 2 home, state police say. 

On January 17, at about 2:45 PM, the Marshfield Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from a structure on US Route 2 in Marshfield. The call was made by a concerned citizen. Firefighters discovered that a household member was trapped inside the building.

They located the individual inside the home and promptly removed the person from the burning structure. The victim was initially transported to Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin and later transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington due to the severity of the injuries sustained in the fire. She has since been identified as 18-year-old Adalyn Phoenix. She was pronounced dead at the University of Vermont Medical Center due to injuries sustained in the fire. Her family is following her wishes and donating her organs to people in need.

The Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit (FEIU) was notified and arrived on the scene to assist with the investigation into the fire’s origin and cause. At this time, the fire is not considered suspicious, but the investigation remains ongoing.

Hartford man dies of gunshot to head

At about 2 PM Jan. 19, the Hartford (VT) Police Department and Hartford Fire Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 200 Block of Fairbanks Turn. They found a man with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center by Hartford Fire Department personnel but later succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicate that all parties involved were known to one another, and the incident is believed to be isolated, police say. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Hartford Police Department at 802-295-9425.

    Why isn’t there any info about “all parties involved?”
    Were they witnesses? Perpetrators? Suspects? Family members? Neighbors?
    Are there any leads?
    Any arrests?
    How do we know from the info provided that it wasn’t a suicide?
