A Grand Isle man is facing felony charges following a Vermont State Police investigation into an alleged sexual assault involving a minor.
According to Vermont State Police, the Northwest Unit for Special Investigations was notified in August of an incident involving Cole Botala, 27, of Grand Isle. Investigators determined that Botala allegedly inappropriately touched a female juvenile under the age of 16. Police said the victim was known to the accused.
As a result of the investigation, Botala was charged with attempted sexual assault of a child and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child. He was arrested and later released on citation.
Botala is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Grand Isle Criminal Division, on Jan. 8, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
The case is being investigated by Detective Trooper Christopher Finley of the Vermont State Police St. Albans Barracks. The investigation remains ongoing.
