BURLINGTON — A St. Albans man, who authorities said steals vehicles and almost killed three law enforcement officers by driving a truck at two of their cruisers last week and dragging a Colchester police officer in an earlier case, was arrested by federal authorities in Burlington on Monday.
Andrew Brace, 39, of St. Albans, who has had multiple confrontations with police in six counties over the past few weeks, was located in a parking lot in Burlington, officials said.
The U.S. Marshals Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and its Chittenden County Gun Violence Task Force had led the manhunt in recent days.
There had been various tips and sightings in recent days and it came to a head when he was located in a parking lot near the McKenzie House on Elmwood Avenue, just north of the Federal Courthouse.
Brace, who was found in a car possibly stolen from a South Burlington dealership, did not go peacefully, officials said. Even after he was placed in handcuffs and shackles, Brace tried to flee, but never got free, arresting agents said.
Also assisting were game wardens from Vermont Fish and Wildlife, inspectors from the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles and officers from Burlington and South Burlington Police.
Brace was lodged at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans Town late Monday afternoon.
Police in Chittenden County and Central Vermont report that officers have been dispatched in recent weeks to incidents where Brace and a companion were believed to have passed out. Both those incidents later caused flights from police in stolen vehicles, records show.
Brace is facing multiple state charges of aggravated assault with deadly weapons, criminal threatening, vehicle operation without the owner’s consent, eluding police in a negligent manner, leaving the scene of an accident and petty larceny, the marshals service said.
He also is facing a charge of being a habitual offender that was filed last week by the Franklin County State’s Attorney’s Office. The habitual charge gives a state judge the ability to impose up to a life sentence for Brace’s next felony conviction.
Franklin County prosecutors took the case extra seriously after Brace reportedly drove a stolen Ford F-250 truck at both Patrol Sgt. Christian Hunt and Trooper Seth Boudreau, who had to take life-saving evasive actions to avoid head-on crashes during a pursuit that began in Grand Isle County last week. The chase went through at least three counties during the day with a couple of vehicles reportedly stolen by Brace, who eventually ditched the final truck in Winooski, officials said.
Franklin County prosecutors obtained an arrest warrant for Brace and a state judge agreed with a request that the defendant be held without bail when caught. Brace could be arraigned on the Franklin County charges as early on Tuesday afternoon.
It will now be up to state’s attorneys in the other counties — Chittenden, Grand Isle, Washington, Orange and Addison – to sort out who else wants to help take the lead in prosecuting Brace.
Brace also could face a possible felony charges in federal court, officials said.
A woman found with Brace when he was arrested was released without criminal charges. The investigation is continuing.

just another day at the vermont zoo///// will the zoo masters keep the the problem in the cage/////
Once again, it takes the Feds/US Marshalls to effectively nail these lowlife miscreants after the state of Vermont repeatedly releases them back into the general population only to have them offend and cause suffering & turmoil time and again.
The “progressive” & “democrat” socialist ideologies are the actual existential threat to this Republic, to civil society, to the rule of law, to the Constitution, and to all of humanity. Many of these Communist warlords occupying VT are themselves but indoctrinated & foolish pawns following playbooks authored by absolute madmen and this tiny, once conservative & safe state has been transformed into nothing less than a sordid playground for these zealots to implement their hellish philosophies – the same ones attempted over & over throughout history resulting in multi-millions of deaths & mass destructions.
And they shall continue to do so at your peril unless and until they stopped forcibly and forevermore by a devoted & committed public who obey God and never government and follow righteousness and never political correctness. And that, God willing, means you, me, and the patriots of this nation.
…and yet a majority of “Vermonters” keep electing them…it really is unexplainable how people can be so masochistic…
no worries, some liberal judge will let him out in no time
Rich: Control the Media —- Control the Masses. I have a shirt with that on it that I often wear. In VT, I either get “confused” looks or the typical apathetic looks.
I laugh when I think of how “Vermonters” get credited as being free & independent thinkers. What a bad joke.
Vermont was full of free and independent thinkers prior to 1963 when there were more cows than people. The legislature was comprised of people who were actually born here, spent a few weeks addressing Vermont concerns then went back home to their lives and families.
Vermont has been terminally affected by the influx of those who use Vermont as their progressive social experiment. The results are evident to free thinkers. The state has been destroyed by a failed ideology, progressivism. All of Vermont’s current problems are the result of the new nanny state. They restrict freedom, pass incoherent laws, tax everything that moves or stands still and they have attempted and been successful in altering our state constitution while ignoring the rest of it.
All of this started after the progressive theft of the democratic party by the progressive ideology which continued to expand the welfare state, invade all of Vermont’s institutions, created the per capita most non-government organization funded by national organizations and the influx of lawyers and lobbyists. Add to all this the purchase of the VT leftwing media to censor and omit anything non-progressive, the influx of non-Vermonters elected to school boards, town and city councils, the legislature and our state government and you are living the results.
I lived and was raised in the real Vermont. I am ashamed to now be called a Vermonter even though I am. I blame the voters of this state other than the 112,000 of us who see the damage and try to warn others of where we are headed from here. Hopefully, the winds of change are upon us. We cannot continue down this progressive road as total destruction nears both financially for the state and for us trying to continue to live here. Isn’t it bad enough for you to say, this must change?
Remember, the hippies came to Vermont in the 60s because it was cheap to live and no one told you what to do. Now they and their children run the legislature and many state agencies…they drive up the cost of living and take great delight in telling others what to do.
Interesting to see Vermont, polling place interviews. Women near exclusively vote for progressive/liberal legislators. That voting block alone is what’s driving Vermont’s political climate. A demographic so stupid they bemoan housing cost and low wage, service base economy they brought upon themselves. “IT’S FOR THE CHILDREN!”
To see something interesting, go to the Seven Days paper for personals. Observe how many women are Liberal. Says a lot. They must have at one time sugar daddies and never did anything for themselves. I don’t subscribe, just look perhaps once a year. I’m not in VT and wouldn’t travel mega miles to visit any o them. This is an eye opener.
Tom, as a fellow student of human behavior, I see you’re spot on. Such female, political alignment is often the result of rejection by a desirable, masculine, successful, provider. Most often due to feminist ideals. Now, bitter and filled with resentment of being alone or attached to an embarrassing worm of a man, they lash out with accusations of, Toxic Masculinity for what they will never benefit from. Certain we all know someone exactly like this. The solution is to call out these woman and lift their veil for the world to see their true motivation.
…those same women who hate Trump for the way he has treated women conveniently overlooked that with Bill Clinton, and his wife who belittled and dehumanized those women who accused him…
Neil Johnson had a good take on that dynamic. So, although not every individual of either gender fits the mould, there is a tendency for women to vote for “safety” and “compassion” while men tend to vote for “opportunity” and “low tax” and low regulation.
The workings of Edward Bernays (Sigmund Freud’s nephew) showed the coroporations and government how to exploit these tendencies through advertising and PR. So today “responsible” women choose not to have children (to save the planet), abortion is life affirming and a degree in navel gazing is just as useful to society as a medical one. Every woman has the “right” to, not just be safe, but to feel safe.
For men, Heterosexual sex is rape but not having sex marks you as an “incel” and a loser. Success is a sign of unearned privilege but failure is because of something bad you must have done. Your inability or unwillingness to work for the same rates as an illegal entrant to this country is laziness and greed (Americans just won’t work) and pride in your past is bigotry and hate. Most important, if you fight back, it means your enemies have won.
For both genders (and there are only two), addiction is a disease that should never be judged. Indeed, we should provide safe sites to allow addicts space to work through their problems. But actual disease – Cancer for instance – is preventable if you had done as you are told and ate the scraps doctors recommended, never drank alcohol or smoked (which is , like Schroedingers cat – both a terrible addiction and a free choice depending on the discussion).
We have a long long way to go before we can get back to free thinking.
As of 2023, women comprised merely 33% or only one-third of the houses of Congress. The majority, or roughly two-thirds were men. Looks like there are an awful lot of leftist men initiating and adopting Communist bills and advocating for progressive policy to me.
Some of the worst radicals with the most clout? Biden, Obama, Mayorkas, Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Sanders, the lunatic “admiral” in a dress who thinks he’s a woman, etc.
So statistically, men are still calling the shots. Still. But let’s blame women as usual. Takes the heat off all the many radical dudes.
And as far as anger goes, I’d say the angriest posts on VDC go to the men with their usual accusatory tirades.
Maybe try a new hairstyle or cologne even?
Gotcha. Lots o’ anger to follow……..
Kathleen,
You are using the fallacy of equality of outcome vs equality of opportunity that you despise everywhere except when it comes to your particular demographic. We are all vulnerable to this flaw, unfortunately.
Women make up just over 50% of registered voters and women turn out to vote at a rate of 80%. Male turnout is lower at between 70% and 75%.
So if women want to vote exclusively for women, they have the power to make the house and the senate exclusively female.
My comments were not meant in anger. They were not saying “women bad men good”. I was giving my opinion on what motivates the block of women voters (safety) and I even said that 5his is not true of all women.
Politicians pander to our preferences to get votes and they play on our fears to lower turnout for the other side. My point was they have used very sophisticated methods to do just that.
You are feee to believe what you want however.
Btw: source for my women voting data

The driving force for leftism is single, unmarried women without children. Obviously, not all fill-in-the-blank blah blah blah, and yes, especially in Vermont, the difference is smaller, but the stats are clear. Women, in general, are politically aligned and voting more left than men. I don’t know why it riles some folks up to point this out. Women prefer authority & “safety,” and men prefer opportunity & liberty. Again. In general. Did I mention… in general? It’s a generalization, as in, obviously, exceptions exist, but by virtue of being exceptions, they prove a general rule. Your personal truth might vary, you know, generally speaking.
Mr Lowry is generally correct. 🙂
VIP 1: True, VT was once a very conservative and more traditional state, but whether or not you possess morals, good judgement, and can think freely & independently has nothing to do with what state you are born in – it was once meant to be characteristic of a real American – as President Trump clearly defines and conveys to us all.
I wasn’t born in VT but rather in NY, but again – served (volunteered) on municipal commissions here in my adopted state attempting to thwart local corruption (to no avail in case you were interested), initiated petitions against unlawful injustices of the time, donated to & participated in sign waving events for GOP candidates, and voted for “our cause” in every election. On the other hand, I’ve had numerous neighbors who were born & raised here, bought into the leftist philosophy in a big way, and are rabidly enthusiastic leftists; so much so that one woman actually, during an otherwise nice social visit, requested that I exit her property to never return because I essentially refused to relinquish my support for my own socio-political perspectives.
You can’t judge a book by its cover, and you can’t judge individuals based upon what state they were birthed in. My stepson often wears cornrows & has numerous piercings and votes for Trump every time around. When you generalize, you can inevitably alienate your own and since we are the minority in Vermont and are battling for the return of the very essence of the state as it once existed, it’s much more effective, if for no other reason, to not burn any bridges.
Freedom of movement is a Constitutional right. And our motto E Pluribus Unum is what unites and strengthens us. That will never change, God willing. Every person’s roots hail from elsewhere and therefore our differences are ideological at this point and not based on what state we were raised in.
You do great commentary, much intelligence. I was born, raised, schooled in VT. Left when 18 for the Air Force until 1062. Never really came back but the family has property so that’s an anchor, which I now own. Since Phil Hoff from MA got elected and Interstate I-91, I-89 got constructed, then the Flatlanders “discovered VT”. Down hill since. There were many signs on vehicles “Take Vermont Back”. Since the military you have to say I would have given my life for this? An interesting letter to the editor for The Commons free newspaper August 21 2013 from Brattleboro by a NY college professor Jonathan Mack who moved to Newfane. His letter is noted below.
He was elected to the Newfane select board. The reflects the Flatlander mentality- a professor that knows so much. Hi letter is in my files. VT was once the greatest industrial state in the country. Then he says “We cannot do it on our own.”
Found the article on Yahoo search:
A semi-rural economy has unique needs, By Jonathan Mack
https://www.commonsnews.org/issue/217/A-semi-rural-economy-has-unique-needs
He says at the end “We cannot do it on our own.” How to fight stupidity?
Kathleen,
I agree with most of what you said but you were generalizing, I was specifically referencing my experience in Vermont. I understand your need to protect women because you are one, however that does not change the fact that women are generally much more liberal than men. We are different because of our genetic makeup and there are very feminine men and very masculine women and generalizing rarely works. Previous commenters said it better than I. Life circumstance usually is the cause of how we proceed through life. Vermont’s problems are imported.
There was a time when violent, especially armed, resistance to police would often result in a deadly response.
What do you bet he’ll be free in a year
With the progressive’s so-called running of the city, yes running it into the ground,
homeless, drugs, crime, and a few nudists running the street, this POS is just another visitor who found solus the cesspool known as Burlington…………..
Thanks to law enforcement, for apprehending this POS as our laws mean nothing to him !!
Violent predators flocking to the wild West of the East, the feckless State of Vermont (2nd one captured in a week?) Is this the result of climate change? Are these criminals stealing EV’s to get here so they can take part in our depopulation agenda? Are they coming here for those good paying climate inititive jobs? They come here to prey upon our communities because word is out it’s easy pickings with little inconvenience – turn-style justice for criminals – lawfare warfare for the taxpayers.
We are the second police force given the basic rights of Americans in the Constitution, including:
“Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”
The right of the people to keep and bear arms”.
Florida’s law “Stand your ground law”, that has been used many times.
And NH’s motto “Live Free or Die”
MAGA, jail corrupt Liberal DA’s Prosecutors, Lawyers, Judges, corrupt Gov bureaucracies Fed & Local
The driving force for leftism is the Marxist traitors to the Constitution who have connivingly injected pure, unadulterated Communism into American society & the higher echelons of politics & governance: – namely: Bernie Sanders, Barack Obama, Joe Biden & Co., Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries…..ALL men . While there are of course women too such as “Hillary” – most of these toxic traitors are men and it is they who lead the jackbooted march towards this annihilation of this nation first & foremost.
No one can follow without having a leader – and the leaders of this murderous movement are largely men.
Further, you too cannot claim that it is “men” who influence society the most in terms of innovation, technology, etc. as you both have in the past (which isn’t any longer true whatsoever based upon formerly provided data still contained in past threads on VDC) whilst simultaneously claiming that it is women who are to “blame” for the current Constitutional crisis. The fact is that those who are responsible for the current state of affairs in the USA are the MEN and the WOMEN, i.e.: the citizenry who hail Communism & totalitarianism via their leadership AND their ignorant, at best, voting records.
Who votes for those men, Kathleen? Some other men, and… way more women. The gender gap in politics isn’t at all questionable. I don’t know why it makes you so angry.
