A former car dealership employee has been arrested for embezzling $120,000 from a Rutland Subaru dealership.
On November 27, Troopers were notified of an employee who admitted to taking cash from Oliver Subaru of Rutland located in Rutland Town. Troopers identified the employee as Madison Carrig, 29, of Whitehall, NY.
Police say that through the course of a lengthy investigation, state troopers discovered that Carrig had committed 17 counts of embezzlement. They also learned that Carrig had committed credit card fraud. The total loss incurred by the dealership from these criminal offenses resulted in the loss of over approximately $120,000.
Police also learned that Carrig had previously been employed at Lundgren Audi, Volkswagen, Dodge Ram of Rutland Town. They discovered that Carrig committed an additional count of embezzlement during her time of employment which resulted in the loss of more than $10,000.
Faulty bathroom fan causes 3-alarm fire, leaves six families homeless – On March 03 at 2:39 pm, the Burlington Fire Department was called to a fire at 189 North Champlain St. in Burlington. They found heavy smoke showing from the second floor. Upon investigation, a fire was found in the attic area.
The fire was difficult to access due to renovations within the older building, which now consisted of multiple roof layers. Crews attacked the fire from below and gained access to the attic through a side wall.This fire rose to a 3rd alarm, calling in all on-duty units, off-duty Burlington firefighters, and crews from neighboring departments.
The building consists of six apartments. Due to smoke and water damage, all residents were displaced. The building owner was on the scene and worked with the Red Cross to house the occupants.
The fire was contained to the building of origin; no surrounding structures were damaged. The Burlington Fire Marshal’s Office said a failed bathroom fan in a second-floor ceiling caused the fire.
Cyclist killed on Shelburne Road in hit-and-run – News 5 reports a cyclist was killed just before midnight Saturday night on Shelburne Road, South Burlington in front of Pauline’s Restaurant after being struck by a man driving with a suspended license.
Police are not releasing the name of the victim. The car did not stop after the collision, police say. The driver, Stephen Olango, 38, of South Burlington, had multiple prior arrests and convictions and was driving with a suspended license, police said. The Mini-Cooper he was driving was tracked to the Travel Lodge, He’s being held on $5000 bail for leaving the scene of an accident and careless and negligent operation, fatality resulting.
During the on-scene investigation, a South Burlington police cruiser was struck by a vehicle driven by a drunk driver, police say. The cruiser, which was totalled, was unoccupied and no police were injured.
